Hello! We are glad that you could join us for this production of Little Women! I would first like to thank all of our sponsors and the MHS faculty and staff that have assisted in launching this production. Without your support we would not be able to produce this show! I would also like to give a huge thanks to all of the parents of the students involved in this production. Thank you so much for sharing your children with us! We rehearse many long hours and require a lot of dedication from the students involved. We thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with your extremely talented sons and daughters. Many of you have put in many hours of work on this production and for that I am truly indebted. Memorial has the best parental support. I appreciate your drive to assist the directors in any way that is needed, and the way that you strive to always put the students needs ahead of your own. You are appreciated!

When I was initially looking for a musical for this year’s production, I had a very difficult time deciding on a show that I felt the students would enjoy creating, would showcase their talent, and set the type of mood that I wanted to create with this year‘s musical. After producing Breaking Up is Hard to Do last year, with its up-beat energy focused music and script, I wanted to do something with a little more meaning and feeling in it that takes its audience members on more of an emotional, heartwarming journey. I ran across the Little Women script one evening and, after reading it, knew right away that we had to do this show. Especially, when I, who does not normally cry at emotional scenes, was crying by the middle of the second act just while reading the text. This show is filled with quirky comedy, tear jerking tragedy, romance, and many historical elements that set us in the Civil War. It seems as if it has a little bit of everything someone might want to see.

I know that a large majority of people have read the book Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, as children and hold a special place in their hearts for the March sisters, Laurie, Professor Bhaer and many of the other memorable characters from the text. Alcott’s book is still such a brilliant, enduring piece of literature that I feel blessed to have been able to be a part of creating this visual representation of such a timeless piece. We pray that you have a wonderful holiday season filled with “wonder as the seasons come and go“! May God bless you and yours during this joyous time!
