CLEANING AND BRUSH INFORMATION

Pick up oversized debris before cleaning. Pick uppieces of wire, twine, string, etc., which couldbecome entangled in the brushes. There is onlyone set of side brushes recommended for usewith the Litter Hawkt.

Polypropylene side brush -- A good generalpurpose brush for sweeping light to mediumdebris in outdoor applications. This brush isrecommended for dry or wet conditions.

Plan the cleaning in advance. Try to arrange longruns with minimum stopping and starting. Drivethe straightest path possible. Avoid bumping intoposts or scraping the sides of the machine.

When operating the machine, turn the steeringhandle with a smooth, even motion. Avoid suddenturns, except in emergencies.

The dust control system is useful in dry conditionsto control the dust stirred up by the side brushesand vacuum fan. The system consists of a waterpump switch, water tank, two water pumps andthree spray nozzles.

OPERATION

Litter Hawkt 330470 (12--99)32

The water pump switch allows the operator tochoose between two dust control methods.

The side brushes pump sends a steady spray ofwater out of each nozzle located in front of eachside brush. A full water tank will lastapproximately 86 minutes with the front dustcontrol nozzles on.

The hopper vacuum fan pump sends a pulsatingspray of water out of the nozzle located in thevacuum fan chamber. A full water tank will lastseven hours with the vacuum chamber spray on.

Do not use the water spray dust control systemon wet roads or surfaces. Reduce vacuum powerwhen working through standing water or puddlesto minimize water pick up.

Dust filters will not be harmed by wet sweeping. The filters will remain dry, and will continue towork effectively while wet sweeping.

The debris hopper can be used with or withoutstandard 114 L (30 gallon) size garbage bags asbag liners. Extra bags can be stored in the debrishopper under the working bag, or in the sidesaddlebag.

Litter Hawkt 330470 (6--99)58

HYDRAULIC FLUID

The quality and condition of the hydraulic fluidplay a very important role in how well the machineoperates. Tennant’s hydraulic fluid is speciallyselected to meet the needs of Tennant machines.

Tennant’s hydraulic fluids provide a longer life forthe hydraulic components. There are two fluidsavailable for different temperature ranges:

Tennant hydraulic fluid

Part number Ambient temperature

65869 above 7_ C (45_ F)

65870 below 7_ C (45_ F)

The higher temperature fluid has a higherviscosity and should not be used at the lowertemperatures. Damage to the hydraulic pumpsmay occur because of improper lubrication.

The lower temperature fluid is a thinner fluid forcolder temperatures.

If a locally available hydraulic fluid is used, makesure the specifications match Tennant hydraulicfluid specifications. Using substitute fluids cancause premature failure of hydraulic components.

ATTENTION! Hydraulic componentsdepend on system hydraulic fluid forinternal lubrication. Malfunctions, accelerated wear, and damage will resultif dirt or other contaminants enter thehydraulic system.

HYDRAULIC HOSES

Check the hydraulic hoses after every 800 hoursof operation for wear or damage.

Fluid escaping at high pressure from a very smallhole can be almost invisible, and can causeserious injuries.

See a doctor at once if injury results fromescaping hydraulic fluid. Serious infection orreaction can develop if proper medical treatmentis not given immediately.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, use cardboard to locate leakinghydraulic fluid under pressure.

If you discover a fluid leak, contact your mechanicor supervisor.

PUSHING, TOWING, AND TRANSPORTINGTHE MACHINE

PUSHING OR TOWING THE MACHINE

If the machine becomes disabled, it can bepushed from the front or rear, but towed only fromthe rear. It is easier and more stable to tow themachine from the rear.

The propelling pump has a bypass valve toprevent damage to the hydraulic system when themachine is being pushed or towed. This valveallows a disabled machine to be moved for a veryshort distance and at a speed to not exceed 1.6kp/h (1 mph). The machine is NOT intended to bepushed or towed a long distance or at a highspeed.

ATTENTION! Do not push or towmachine for a long distance and withoutusing the bypass valve, or the machinehydraulic system may be damaged.

Remove the debris hopper, and reach behind themain vacuum hose to access the bypass valve.

Turn the bypass valve to the horizontal positionbefore pushing or towing the machine.

TRANSPORTING THE MACHINE

1. Position the rear of the machine at theloading edge of the truck or trailer.

FOR SAFETY: Use truck or trailer thatwill support the weight of the machine.

NOTE: Empty the hopper before transporting themachine.

2. If the loading surface is not horizontal or ishigher than 380 mm (15 in) from the ground, use a winch to load machine.

If the loading surface is horizontal AND is380 mm (15 in) or less from the ground, themachine may be driven onto the truck ortrailer.

MAINTENANCE
