Below are suggested activities that students may engage in at home.

Questions of the Week (to ask children) What can we do with boxes? How can we make an aquarium out of a box? How can we make a treasure chest out of a box? What kind of fish live in the ocean? What big creatures live in the ocean?

Literacy

The children can use GOLDFISH CRACKERS to create letters!

The children can identify and write letters of the alphabet found in their environment. The children can identify letters that they find on labels on boxes, road signs, and store fronts.  The children can write the same letters in their writing journals.

Science

The children can gain an understanding of sea animals and their environment by engaging in a variety of virtual aquarium tours.

The children can create three dimensional aquariums by painting/coloring boxes using blue and green colors.  The children can glue colored tissue paper to create plants.  The children can glue goldfish crackers (or any other sea creatures that they create), to the back of the inside of the box.  The children can glue sand and shells to the bottom of the box. The children can place cellophane over the front of the box..

The children can identify the face, vertex (corner), and edge of a box.

The children can count the number of faces, corners and edges of a box.  The children can identify the numbers counted on a number line.

The children will count the number of sides in two dimensional shapes. The children will identify the numbers counted on a number line and

write the number symbols on a separate piece of paper.

Dramatic Play

The children can pretend to work in an aquarium giving tours and taking care of sea life.  The children can utilize sea animal toys as well as the aquariums created in the Art Center.

Blocks

The children can use a variety of sizes of boxes to build creations.  The children can be encouraged to build an aquarium.  The children can add sea creature toys and artificial plants to their aquariums. The children can use the sea life pictured below in their block creations:
