Phonics Please practise the phase 2 and 3 sounds and brain words daily. You can do this with Mrs Soden and Miss Humphery (link found in ‘Reception Phonics’ on the blog) or with your own flash cards. This week the Reception Phonics videos will be on the sounds: ‘ai’, ‘or’ and ‘oo/oo’.
Reading Make sure you have some daily quiet time to enjoy reading a book to your child. Save the Children’s latest campaign ‘Save with Stories’ is a
wonderful initiative which supports the nation’s most vulnerable children at this time. Watch a host of famous faces read stories by clicking here. Please also continue to ensure time for your child to read to you.
Main
Activity
Please encourage your child to sound out carefully (please see a sound mat below) and form their letters correctly. Remind them that they need to use finger spaces between words, to start a sentence with a capital letter and end it with a full stop.
Resources Crossword puzzle on page 3. Pens/pencils
Resources: Paper and pens/pencils Or any other writing resources
Resources Shard ‘ar’ challenge on page 4. Pens/pencils
Resources: Ipad or computer Printed bingo cards
Resources: Template on page 5 or lined paper of your own Pens/pencils
Complete a crossword puzzle. After your London landmark clue activity, you are now an expert at giving clues. For this task, you need to work out the clue. Once you have worked out the clue, sound it out carefully to fill in the boxes.
Practise spellings. Please practise spelling these high frequency words:
can
off
not
get
and If your child can write these words easily why don’t they have a go at writing sentences with them in?
Sound out ‘ar’ words There are lots of objects with the ‘ar’ sound hiding in the Shard. Can you see any? Once you have found one write it down, carefully sounding the word out. There are 10 hidden ‘ar’ words…. can you find them all? *Challenge* Can you write a sentence using as many of the ‘ar’ words you have found as possible?
Play high frequency word bingo Click here You are going to play high frequency and brain word bingo! You or your grown up will click the virtual spin button, if a word comes up that is on your list you can tick it off. Whoever ticks all their words off first is the winner!
Parent tip: you can choose which phase you would like to practise with your child on the menu before you print or prepare their bingo cards.
Write an idea While you are designing your palace (Topic Activity 4), have a think about what you would do if you were the king or queen who lived there. If you were the Queen of England for the day, what would you do? Would you change the rules? Would you have a big party in your palace? Use the template on page 5, or lined paper of your own, to write down your idea.
Please post this on the blog

Problem/
Activity of
the day
Today we are going to start
our focus on 3D Shapes.
We would like you to put on
a 3D shape show for your
families!
Tell them everything that you
know about these three
shapes.
Miss Areosa has made a fun
example (Click Here) for the
children to watch first before
they create their own show.
Click Here to have a fun video
introduction to the show the
children create, pause as
needed.
Please post a picture of this
on the blog
Today we are continuing
to learn about 3D Shapes.

show the children create,
pause as needed.
What’s in the Bag
Children put their hand(s) in a bag to choose one of the shapes inside. By exploring the shape with their hands while it is still in the bag, they use the vocabulary to try to reason which shape it is, then bring it out to see their choice.
See Below how to encourage
Mathematical thinking and
reasoning.
Please post this on the blog
Missing 3D Shape!
Oh No! One of the 3D
shapes we have been
learning about has gone
missing.
Can the children make a
lost poster for a missing 3D
Shape.
Choose which shape has
gone missing and remember
to describe the shape with
its properties.
You can also discuss what
it may be hiding as. For
example if it was a sphere
that is lost, it maybe hiding
as a ball or an orange.
Build a Landmark with 3D
Shapes
Using junk modelling, or
construction pieces, can you
build one of the London
Landmarks we have learnt
about over the last two
weeks?
Carefully choose the 3D
shapes that you will use. Can
you tell your grown up which
3D shapes you have used?
Can you say why you have
used them, e.g. “I used a
pyramid for the top of the
shard because it has a sharp
point at the top”.

We don’t need to film or record it but just ask the children to create a show all about these three 3D
shapes.
We don’t need to film or record it but just ask the children to create a show all about these three 3D
shapes.
Try to include a range of different types and, if possible, a range of different materials from which they are made (ideally the shapes should
contain examples that children might have already come
across in the setting as well as those which are likely to be
new to them)
If the children want to draw their lost 3D shape here is a link to help them give it a go.

Main activity
Go Jetters - Local Landmarks Join the Go Jetters and learn about what
landmarks are by reading through the cards below.

adult and talk about what makes a feature special and why. Are there any
local landmarks near to Honeywell or the

of these landmarks and writing a fact about it.
To find out more information about
different landmarks around the country Click Here

Today we are thinking about how to look
after where we live.
Can you look up and find your local recycling plant? Learn more about what you can
recycle and where it goes by clicking here
Can you now have a go at sorting the recycling from the rubbish using the sheet
below? You might want to draw some other
things which you know can or can’t be recycled!
Help at home this week by recycling your

Music with Ms Harris
London Bridge is Falling Down
Our wonderful music teacher Ms Harris has
recorded another video for the children. Today she is singing ‘London Bridge is
Falling Down’.
Can you join in with the words?
Can you join in with the actions? Can you teach the song to someone in
your family?
Design your own Palace for the Queen
Start by having a look at pictures of Buckingham Palace. You might want to look up
some different palaces from around the world.
Now it is your turn to design a palace that is
special enough for the Queen. Think about the extra special features of a palace, for example,
you might want to make it really tall like The
Shard or to have a drawbridge. As a challenge, can you describe your palace to an adult and tell
them why it is special?
You can find some examples of some pictures of palaces from around the world below.
Please post this on the blog on
Thursday
