Hallsten Corporation has developed a full line of structuralaluminum products. These products are based on a structuralsystem that has evolved through our experience in the designand fabrication of metal structures since 1966. These variousproducts are used in marine, industrial and environmentalapplications. The basis for the structural system is a unique setof interlocking aluminum components. The use of thesecomponents provides a structural system that is very versatile, can be used in a variety of structures and provides unmatchedstrength and durability.

In the early 1970's Hallsten Corporation pioneered the use ofaluminum components for the construction of structures to beused in a marine environment. The extreme corrosionresistance of aluminum in combination with the inherentstrength of aluminum extrusions provided the basis for amarine structural system that provided unmatched quality andvalue. These early structures were fullyassembled with welded connections.Hallsten Corporation continued torefine the design of these structures andby the 1980's had eliminated themajority of the welds required toassemble the components. The weldedconnections were replaced with detailsthat included specialized adhesives aswell as nonthreaded mechanicalconnectors. Where welds wereretained, the welds were designed tominimize the effect of fatigue inducedin the heat effected areas. These weldswere located in areas with minimalcyclical loading. Additionally, theremaining welded connections weredesigned with longer individual welds,

which tend to be more fatigue resistant. The weldless designproved to be highly fatigue resistant as well as much morestructurally efficient than a fully welded design due to theelimination of these heat effected areas and their correspondingallowable stress reductions.

The weldless structural design resulted in the issuance of UnitedStates Patent number 5,050,361, “Deck Structure”. Thisstructural system is comprised of panels that include the

primary structural beam section as aframe member for the decking system. When assembled, the structurebecomes self-framing as well as self-supporting.

Hallsten Corporation has established areputation for our unique ability tocreate products that employ modularstructural systems. These productsallow Hallsten Corporation toengineer specific structures utilizing afamily of predesigned components. The result is high performance, efficient structures at very competitiveprices. Hallsten Corporation continuesto provide design-build structures to avariety of industries. In addition toaluminum and steel structures for

marine applications, Hallsten Corporation provides aluminumcovers for wastewater and water treatment plants, andaluminum and steel structures for industrial applications.Typical of these are industrial mezzanines, stairways and rampsystems, conveyor crossovers and bridging structures as well assteel truss bridges for pedestrian and light vehicle use.

The attractive “no maintenance” solution forGangways - in fresh or salt water. Free yourself fromall maintenance problems, save on costs, withmarine alloy aluminum gangways which retain theirattractive appearance.

The marine alloy aluminum used in Lite-SpanGangways resists corrosion. Will not rot, split, orrust. Needs no painting or other protective coatings.

Lite-Span Gangways structures can be engineeredto meet your existing conditions. Completeboarding systems for complex boardingconfigurations can be accommodated.

Lite-Span Gangways decking provides safetyunderfoot for shod or bare feet. A unique decksurface treatment provides unparalleled slipresistance - dry or wet. No ecological hazards arecreated by aluminum in any water. Lite-Spangangways structures can be designed to meet anyload and spanning requirements.

Lite-Span Gangways are fabricated of highstrength, marine aluminum alloy. All assembly is byGas Metal Arc Welding using the latest techniques inwelding technology. Wherever possible, automaticwelding processes are employed to assure highquality construction. The welding assembly and theinherit properties of aluminum provide a gangwaystructure which is maintenance free and which willretain a new appearance through years of service.

Aluminum’s light weight, combined with itsstrength and the rugged construction of Lite-Spangangways, makes them easier to handle thangangways of any other material. They may betransported with light vehicles. In most cases, theycan be put into place or removed without cranes orspecial equipment.

Lite-Span Gangways by Hallsten Corporationmake you money. With sound, efficient engineeringand design, high quality fabrication, and nomaintenance requirements, Lite-Span gangwaysystems assure a high return on your marineequipment investment.
