Effective listening is a art of communication which is often taken for granted and ignored.
Listening is a process of receiving interpreting and reacting to the message received form the communication sender.
Listening is the most powerful form of
acknowledgment
…a way of saying to your customer, “You
are important.”
Types of ListeningDifferent types of listening can be categorized as a follows
Discriminative listening.
Comprehensive listening.
Evaluative/critical listening.
Biased listening.
Superficial/casual listening.
Discriminative Listening As the name it self suggests,
discrimination listening is the most basic type of listening where by the different between the sound is identified.
By being sensitive to change in the speakers rate volume ,force ,pitch and emphasis the informative listener can detect even minute and minor meaning of difference in meaning
Comprehensive Listening.
when the ListenerComprehensive message inorder to understand fullmeaning , it falls intocategory of Comprehensiveor evaluative listening thistype of listening result into selection of the neededinformation out of thetotal information
Evaluative/critical Listening.
Evaluative listening is also called “critical listening”
Because we make judgments about what the others person is saying..
Biased Listening.
Biased listening happens when the person hears only what they want to hear such blessed listening is often very evaluative in nature
Superficial/casual Listening.
When the listener pays no attention on the content of the message ,it becomes superficial listening. The uninterested listener can concentrate on the theme of the conveyed message

It is a technique used in communication which requires a person to pay attention to the speaker and provide feedback.
it is a physical process; natural; passive.
It defines only the physical measurement of sound waves that are transmitted to the ear and into the brain where they are processed into audible information .
