Do you happen to have too

much free time on your

hands, and

don’t know

what to do

about it?

Well, why not give to a community, but it doesn’t have to be

boring. Recently I have participated in an event called GISH-

WHES, Greatest International

Scavenger Hunt the World

Has Ever Seen. The point of

this international scavenger

hunt was to work with four-

teen other people to achieve a

common goal. Some ways you

could have earned points was

by doing some of their sug-

gested community service and

videotaping it, one of which

happened to be a sock puppet show for a local children’s hospi-

tal. Though most of their community service ideas come from

their sponsor, The Random Act of Kindness.

The Random Act of Kindness was started by actor Misha Collins

on December 3rd, 2009. It had a rocky beginning but since then

they have had a steady stream of events. The organization as a

whole has done many events to give to their communities and

other. Since The Random Act of Kindness is a non-profit organi-

zation there are people who work to try and raise money to hold

even more events. Some of their random acts had been such

things like, giving toys and school supplies to children in Mexi-

co, or roses for the elderly in France, or even giving umbrellas

out at hospitals to those without during a terrible storm.

GISHWHES, was a fairly new project, the one I had recently

participated in had only been its second year. Both GISHWHES

and The Random Act of Kindness were made to bring together

people from different walks of life to help someone that was

somewhere miles away from

them, maybe even seas too. That’s

what community service used to be,

just helping someone, to change their

life for the better. Not to just get some

requirements to stay in school and it

wasn’t something as mundane as sit-

ting at a booth not doing anything until

you were told to. It was suppose to give

you a feeling of accomplishment and

make you feel good about what you’d

done. But I fear that no one cares any-

more.

Got senioritis?

All the seniors have been hit with a wave of senioritis. Every-

one knows that this is the last year for the class of 2013. Sen-

ioritis is affecting the majority

of them. Senioritis is when

students in their senior year

have a lack of motivation, be-

come extremely tired with

school, and may not try as

hard as they usually would.

(Interview) The only way for

them to get rid of this sickness

is when they have their gradu-

ation. Although, in senior year

the seniors should know what col-

lege they have been accepted into,

colleges still have the right to take

back their acceptance due to the

grades in senior year ; this is really

where senioritis could harm the sen-

iors.

Prepare and Beware

Juniors have been in plenty of preparation for their college

years. Some juniors have already taken some of their SATs. Jun-

ior year is extremely important for applying to colleges. Once the

juniors apply to different colleges in their senior year, the colleg-

es will mainly be looking at their junior year grades and SAT

scores. Junior year is really the time to shine. Colleges mainly

look at the junior year grades and work ethic.

A few weeks ago, Twinkies, along with their mother Hostess,

died tragic deaths. After Hostess filed their second bankruptcy,

it was time for Twinkies to go. Now,

what will America do without its

beloved Twinkies?

Twinkies may have been one of

the most iconic snacks of the

century, gaining name brand pop-

ularity with its creamy filling as well as gaining notorious fame

for its nutritional value.

It’s possible that Hostess created Twinkies as a way for people

to cope with low blood sugar and depression. As bad and sweet

Twinkies can taste, it was the creamy filling that attracted its

first and dedicated fans. With 2.5 grams of saturated fat and a

long life shelf of a hundred years, it’s the perfect way to stock

up on food and start a healthy

diet.

In addition to its sugar intoxi-

cating filling, Twinkies have come a

long way. Born in Schiller Park, Illi-

nois in 1930, to James Alexander

Dewar, it’s quite amazing how

Twinkies survived through World

War II and the Cold War. It seems

like WWII assisted in creating the

popular Twinkie by rationing bana-

nas. Yes, bananas. Twinkies used to

have banana cream filling, but due to

WWII, Twinkies had to change fla-

vors. Twinkies’ popularity soared

when it switched to vanilla in the late

1940s. Many generations have seen

this yellow cake deep fried as

“something magical that occurs

when the pastry hits the hot oil”.

Amazing how Twinkies are reborn as

something more delicious.

But, back to the main ques-

tion: now that this famous

snack is gone,

what will

America do?

Will genera-

tions of Twinkie lovers storm the White House and demand the

revival of Hostess?

[Insert interview comments and opinions]

Although the Twinkie has become somewhat of a staple in Amer-

ican diets, all good and delectable things must come to an end,

that is, for this notorious snack.

Do you happen to have too

much free time on your

hands, and

don’t know

what to do

about it?

Well, why not give to a community, but it doesn’t have to be

boring. Recently I have participated in an event called GISH-

WHES, Greatest International

Scavenger Hunt the World

Has Ever Seen. The point of

this international scavenger

hunt was to work with four-

teen other people to achieve a

common goal. Some ways you

could have earned points was

by doing some of their sug-

gested community service and

videotaping it, one of which

happened to be a sock puppet show for a local children’s hospi-

tal. Though most of their community service ideas come from

their sponsor, The Random Act of Kindness.

The Random Act of Kindness was started by actor Misha Collins

on December 3rd, 2009. It had a rocky beginning but since then

they have had a steady stream of events. The organization as a

whole has done many events to give to their communities and

other. Since The Random Act of Kindness is a non-profit organi-

zation there are people who work to try and raise money to hold

even more events. Some of their random acts had been such

things like, giving toys and school supplies to children in Mexi-

co, or roses for the elderly in France, or even giving umbrellas

out at hospitals to those without during a terrible storm.

GISHWHES, was a fairly new project, the one I had recently

participated in had only been its second year. Both GISHWHES

and The Random Act of Kindness were made to bring together

people from different walks of life to

help someone that was some-

where miles away from them, maybe

even seas too. That’s what community

service used to be, just helping some-

one, to change their life for the better.

Not to just get some requirements to

stay in school and it wasn’t something

as mundane as sitting at a booth not

doing anything until you were told to.

It was suppose to give you a feeling of

accomplishment and make you feel

good about what you’d done. But I fear

that no one cares anymore.

on December 3rd, 2009. It had a rocky beginning but since then

they have had a steady stream of events. The organization as a

whole has done many events to give to their communities and

other. Since The Random Act of Kindness is a non-profit organi-

zation there are people who work to try and raise money to hold

even more events. Some of their random acts had been such

things like, giving toys and school supplies to children in Mexi-

co, or roses for the elderly in France, or even giving umbrellas

out at hospitals to those without during a terrible storm.

GISHWHES, was a fairly new project, the one I had recently

participated in had only been its second year. Both GISHWHES

and The Random Act of Kindness were made to bring together

people from different walks of life to

help someone that was some-

where miles away from them, maybe

even seas too. That’s what community

service used to be, just helping some-

one, to change their life for the better.

Not to just get some requirements to

stay in school and it wasn’t something

as mundane as sitting at a booth not

doing anything until you were told to.

It was suppose to give you a feeling of

accomplishment and make you feel

good about what you’d done. But I fear

that no one cares anymore.

Well, why not give to a community, but it doesn’t have to be

boring. Recently I have participated in an event called GISH-

WHES, Greatest International

Scavenger Hunt the World

Has Ever Seen. The point of

this international scavenger

hunt was to work with four-

teen other people to achieve a

common goal. Some ways you

could have earned points was

by doing some of their sug-

gested community service and

videotaping it, one of which

happened to be a sock puppet show for a local children’s hospi-

tal. Though most of their community service ideas come from

their sponsor, The Random Act of Kindness.
