Barry Stevens District Governor District 8-I The District 8-I Conven- tion is behind us. Many Lions from around the District and the State gathered in West Mon- roe Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th. Friday night Lions enjoyed a Mexican buf- fet and entertainment from Monroe Downtown Lions Club Secretary/ Treasurer Rich Bailey and his son-in-law Ma- son Granade. If you missed their perfor- mance, you missed a great time. Dr. Jayne S. Weiss, M.D. began the day Saturday with her presentation followed by International Director Sam Lindsey, Jr.. After lunch, PDG Scott Dud- ley from the Baton Rouge Southeast Lions Club spoke to those in attendance about Lead- er Dogs for the Blind. Saturday evening we returned to the Kiroli Park lodge for a seafood buffet. International Di- rector Sam Lindsey, Jr. spoke from the heart about his experiences with Lions through the years and what it truly means to Serve. All in all it was a great week- end. Thanks to the following clubs for their contribu- tions to the conven- tion...Alexandria Lions Club, Bunkie Lions Club, Jonesville Lions Club, MacArthur Drive Lions Club, Mer Rouge Lions Club, Monroe Downtown Lions Club, Pineville Li- ons Club and the Winns- boro Lions Club. Your contributions and partici- pation helped made it a great weekend. Special thanks to the following Lions for helping make the weekend what it was, Lion Viola Britt, First VDG Debbie Fitzgerald, PDG Robert "Bob" Fitz- gerald, PDG Edward Frost and Lion Hilda Frost. Your contributions were invaluable. To all the Lions who at- tended, thank you! It was noted that there were a good number of Lions who were attend- ing their very first District convention. I was very glad to see that. We need more participation at the District level. There is much to be done and very few to do the work. Your involve- ment is critical to the success of District 8-I. District 8-I

The District 8-I Conven-tion is behind us. Many Lions from around the District and the State gathered in West Mon-roe Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th. Any Past District Gov-ernor interested in be-ing considered for Council Chairperson or Secretary to the Council for 2017 – 2018 should prepare a Letter of Intent. All letters MUST be re-ceived by Council Chair Lion Cherie Foret not later than the close of the State Convention on Sun-day, April 23, 2017. All letters will be pre-sented to the newly elected District Gover-nors immediately fol-lowing the Multiple District Convention. This “call” is issued as required per Article III, Section 2 (F6) of the Multiple District 8 Constitution and By-Laws.

Lions Trading Pin proposals are being solicited. By

Council policy anyone wishing to submit a pin design

to be considered must submit that design on 8 ½ X 11

sized paper…in color…professionally drawn. All sub-

missions must be received by the Council Chair on or

before the Wednesday preceding the Multiple-

District Convention (aka State Convention). In this

case that would be Wednesday, April 19, 2017. For

you artists out there, here’s your chance!

2017 LCI Chicago Convention Registration and Hotel

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration Fee:

From January 14 through March 31, 2017 the regular registration fee is US$180 April 1, 2017 through onsite registration, the fee is US$200.

Leo Registration Fee:

Omega Leo - (18 years and over) US$60

Alpha Leo - (17 years and under) US$10

Registrants will receive an official name badge and souvenir medallion; official con-

vention program; one ticket for the International Show.

Convention badges are mailed in late May 2017 to each registered delegate or group.

All changes (name change, arrival/departure date revisions) must be submitted in writ-ing by May 1, 2017 to [email protected].
