Friday night’s opening by Convention Chairman Kim O’Toole set the feeling for the Convention. Kim’s opening remarks regarding a pride of Lions and having pride in the things we do; also his jokes set the humour and harmony that carried on right through the event. I particularly liked the comments of the grandson stating that she was a naughty lady for not wearing her safety belt. The opening of our Convention held at the Hill Top Golf Club was by Jeanette Powell MP and the toast to Lions Clubs International by the Mayor of the Greater City of Shepparton, Mayor Cr. Geoff Dobson; this was followed by the Flag Ceremony presentation by PDG David Oakley. The Flag Ceremony was well presented and enjoyed by everybody present with our Operation Friendship guest Past Council Chairman Dr Ramdas Rai carrying the flag of India. The evening was a great success with everyone being seated and served with a sit down meal. Dr Ramdas Rai and his wife Vinaya are from Mangalore in India and have enjoyed meeting with Australian Lions and their families. Dr Ramdas is a member of the Lions Club of Mangalore and has held most positions in his Club, he was District Governor in 2003-2004 and Council Chairman 2004-2005 he is a Consultant Surgeon and Professor of Surgery. First Business Session SATURDAY morning at the Victory Hall was the opening of the first business session and AGM. Adoption of Rules and Debate were Moved. The introductions and speeches for nominations of elected positions were held. My congratulations to all those that were elected, results listed later. During the lunch break the AGM’s of 201V5 District Disaster Relief Trust and Lions Visual Independence Foundation Inc. were held. After lunch, our second Guest Speaker, Lions Lady Phillipa Challis proceeded to involve everybody in the enjoyment of laughter, getting everybody to their feet doing the Hawaiian giggle. Our third Guest speaker, PDG Nigel Jeny, with the assistance of Lion Lindsay Champion spoke about the benefits and assistance that can be obtained via LCIF. They also outlined the assistance that has been provided from the Foundation to the various disaster areas that have happened around the world. Questions were taken from the floor and answered. Dinner Dance SATURDAY night’s Dinner Dance was “Country with a Touch of Red” and was held at the Kialla Raceway, Shepparton. Each table was decorated with boxes of goodies and sometimes not so good items (rat poison) all donated from various sponsors and finished off with red tulle. All these items, plus a few other boxes were all part of a silent auction held to benefit the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre; the amount raised from this auction was $2,083:10. It was a fantastic result thanks to the efforts of the Tatura Convention Committee. CARNEGIE Lion’s Club Annual Combined Night celebrated a special connection with East Timor. The Guest Speaker, John Milkins shared his moving personal story with attendees from over 20 Lions Clubs, where he invited all Clubs to share his hopes for a partnership in East Timor. John is the son of Gary Cunningham, one of the five Australian-based journalists killed in Balibo, East Timor, in 1975. Until a young adult, John, an adoptee, knew nothing of his natural parents. However, his birth mother revealed to him the identity of his dad, thus opening a chapter of discovery for him.

Carnegie Club’s hope for Balibo in East Timor

The Balibo Trust with John as a director, has established a strong base in Balibo. The once magnificent Old Portugese Fort in Balibo is a huge development and restoration project, which will become a hub for community work, a hotel/convention centre and a hospitality and training centre for young East Timorese. Glenys Needham, President of Carnegie Club, sees this Balibo Fort Project as an opportunity to draw

together the existing work in East Timor by many Lions Clubs, along with the Lions Club of Dili into a shared endeavour for the future of Balibo.

I HAVE just returned from the V5 District AGM and Convention which was hosted by the Lions Club of Tatura. First let me pass on my congratulations to the hard working members of the Tatura Lions Club for a very big job, carried out in an exceptional manner. The Friday night sit-down dinner was an excellent idea. Although the task of feeding about 180 hungry Lions was a real marathon, it was carried out in a very professional manner. Thank you ladies. For me, there were two aspects of Friday dinner which really appealed. First the table list which cleverly had us seated where we were not clumped together in our Clubs, and secondly, because of this we were able to talk to Lions from other Clubs, seated around our table. This simple act ensured that we got to know each other quickly and contributed in no small manner to the friendliness which was so obvious during the Convention. Saturday was, of course, the business part of the Convention and once the opening formalities had been completed, we passed on to the nominations for elected positions for the coming year. Our congratulations go to Lion Chandra Mangalore, Alan Fluck, and of course to Glenda McLeod, who will be our next District Governor. May we all come to realise that these positions are only as good as the understanding and assistance which should come from all Lions. What can I say about our keynote speaker? Gary Prigg was a delight to hear. His dedication and enthusiasm were obvious right from the start, and, as the CEO for Cerebral Palsy, he is definitely the right man, in the right place. Who could ever forget the time when he handed over to the father of a very young man who had cerebral palsy from birth. After telling us about the many treatments which had happened to this young man, he simply said, “I would like you to meet my son”, and a 4 year old RAN down the isle into the arms of his father. There wasn’t a dry eye in the hall. The Tatura Lions Club can hold their heads high for a job well done. From the opening, through the business, on to the Saturday evening function, and the solemn remembrance ceremony on Sunday, everything went very well. I have only one criticism, (I knew you would be expecting it). In future, can we give a bit more to do, to the rank and file.

– Harry Taylor

THANKS to community intervention, some Greater Dandenong organisations will be better prepared to deal with health emergencies and potentially save lives. Two Secondary Schools, two Community Hub Centres, a Senior Citizen Group and a local cricket club, were the recipients of a heart defibrillation unit donation from Noble Park-Keysborough Lions Club.

The donations were made after recent media coverage, relating to sporting accidents. The Club also provided training by St John Ambulance group so the volunteers at the groups had a full knowledge of their workings. The Club expended over $16,000 in this project to support the local Greater Dandenong Community that have supported Lions activities over 40 years.

V5 DISTRICT Governor Lou Onley at his recent Changeover gave his incoming Cabinet Members trees to plant as part of his pledge to the Lions World President Wing-Kun Tam, that V5 would plant 3000 trees, as part of the World Presidents commitment that Lions Internationally plant 1,000,000 trees. On the Monday after his Changeover, DG Lou, attended the Monash Men’s Shed where he donated some trees for planting in the grounds surrounding the ‘shed’, Monash Men’s Shed is a joint venture of Waverley Lions Club Inc. and Glen Waverley Rotary Club Inc., who together put in $20,000 each, the Victorian Government $50,000, and the City of Monash, provided a former scout hall for a nominal sum. The shed has been in operation since March this year and is flourishing with over 80 members, the shed organisation is primarily set up for men to let them come together in a friendly environment, to enjoy other men’s company and to offer assistance to men with their health needs. DG Lou encourages other Lions Clubs to get involved with the Men’s Shed Organisation and also to look at starting their own ‘Shed’.

DG Lou donates trees to Monash Men’s Shed

DG Lou Onley with coordinator Ray Allen and fellow Men’s Shed colleagues, Ray is also Zone 9 Chairman of District V5.

Chairman’s ReportG’DAY from beautiful, and sunny, Licola where I have spent an awesome few of days enjoying the company of other Lions working on the Giant Games areas. Please remember that as Lions we all have a stake in this great project, and if you have not been up here for a while or have any new members, try and take advantage of the Open Day on the 29th October. To appreciate Licola at its best you really need to hear the sound of children laughing.

Lions Sponsored Camps 3-7 October 2011THIS October camp was really good and we were pleased that our numbers were up from 37 children (last year) to 54 children. Everyone had a wonderful time even though some children were fairly challenging. It would be great to have 80 children at the April and September Lions Sponsored Camps 2012 to allow for greater interaction and activity between those attending. Thank you Lions for your support.

THANK you all for being part of another successful week of work and play at Licola. While the numbers were down we still managed to achieve a number of our needed tasks including the new Giant Games courtesy of the Valda Eliza Twaddle Trust (administered by the Forest Hills Lions) and these simply look amazing. Also completed was a complete repaint of House 11 – very much needed and now looking wonderful. Work has also been started in the Old Office Complex to make this

a much better facility for our visiting staff members. Lastly but not least a big thanks to Churchill Club for their work in the kitchen cooking up a feast and the boys later in the week for their hard work. For further information please contact CEO PDG Peter McShane 0402 851 745 or [email protected]

Licola MarketingADAM and his team have been very pro-active in marketing Licola recently, they have been busy promoting our Licola Open Day on 29th October, and have arranged for “deals” to be seen in the Australian Geographic Magazine and the Royal Auto. If you are talking to friends please ask them to check for themselves. The DVD made earlier in the year has been a hit with all Lions Clubs that have so far seen a copy. The Schools version of this DVD has also been doing the rounds and we have received excellent feedback from the accrediting body (ACA) as well as a number of schools have contacted us with booking enquiries. Did you know that the Sale Rotary Club brought 50 students to Licola recently? If your Club has any association with the local Rotarians please see if they would like to help find children to attend our camps.Contact Camp Managers, Adam and Cherry, on 5148 8791 or visit the website www.licola.org.au

201 V5BriefsConvention tees-off with high Standards

APART from the flags already in the Convention Venue, the final seven arrived in fine style using golf buggies at the Tatura Golf Club, the first to be presented was the flag of China, birth country of our International President Wing-Kun Tam, Ted McCracken presented this flag. Rob Miller presented the International Lions Clubs flag. Then the flag of Indonesia, adopted in 1949 when that country became a Republic. Comprising thousands of islands, Indonesia sits along the Equator and has the fourth largest population in the world it was presented by Bill Milner. Next the flag of India, presented by our Operation Friendship guest PCC Dr. Ramdas Rai from a country of great diversity – from the Himalayas in the north to the lush fertile region of Mangalore in the south. Next followed the flag of New Zealand – the land of the Long White Cloud. Ever since the first contingent of Anzacs was formed the flag of New Zealand is one that we honour, presented by Tom Deane. Then came the Stars and Stripes, the flag of the United States of America. Ninety-four years ago Melvin Jones formed the International Association of Lions Clubs and the first Annual Convention was held in Dallas, Texas, David Wilson presented the US flag. Lastly, the flag of Australia was presented by Mike Shay the Australian flag represents our heritage, our pride and our dreams. Unique parade.

201 V5BriefsSenior Lions Leadership Institute 2011-2012:AN informal catchphrase for the inaugural ANZI Pacific Forum went something like this: ‘Everyone is Equal here’. My new friend and Senior Lions Leadership Institute room-mate and team member, Jane Li, was keen to demonstrate this was true. As an active member of the promotional team for our own upcoming International President Barry Palmer, she introduced me to a number of International leaders and photographed me with the International President, the first and second VPs and a few others. For a person who is justifiably camera-shy, I was somewhat overwhelmed! It was a busy but invaluable time. Both events were characterised by outstanding organisation and a tremendous sense of purpose, service and friendship. We had a rare opportunity to meet with the people who ensure the smooth running of our vast organisation and inspire us to stay motivated and focussed to fulfil its Mission.Clear messageOUR International President, Wing-Kun Tam, is a truly inspirational leader and speaker. His energy and enthusiasm was matched by the depth and breadth of his message that was clearly stated at every level. He requested a special session where he met with Club Presidents and interacted with us as equal team members with specific roles to fulfil. Much of what he said was reflected in my own Vision and Mission statements that I prepared in June when getting ready to take on the role of President for Blackburn North Lions Club. It was like a homecoming

because he emphasised the importance of ‘family’ (many important aspects of it); diversity in membership; a change of emphasis from procedure to service; and a spirit of nurturing that includes care of our environment. We were assured that on-going, direct communication lines with him were open for each of us. We were awarded a President’s Pin to commemorate this unique and privileged experience. President Tam’s sense of humour coupled with his passion for his (and our) work both lightened and intensified the atmosphere. No doubt there will be many stories told of the fun people had being around him.Flow-on of ideasTHE Leadership Institute was carefully orchestrated, very detailed and informative and a credit to Kathy Ryan, Institutes and Seminars Manager, Leadership Division, LCI and Presenters from Australia including PDG Roly McAtee, New Zealand and Indonesia. The flow-on of enthusiasm, friendship, cooperation and commitment from the ANZI Pacific Forum was evident throughout the Senior Lions Leadership Institute.

Forum/Leadership – a grass-roots perspective DG Lou visitsMoorabbinDISTRICT Governor Lou Onley called on Lions to involve their families in Club activities when he addressed members of Moorabbin Lions Club recently. He urged members to encourage family membership. “Bring your children and grandchildren along to working bees – remember they will be the Lions of the future”. DG Lou said the Club motto 'My Club, My Family' was evident in the obvious friendship within the Club, the recognition of members – their birthdays, anniversaries, and everyday activities.

THE Lions International Peace Poster Contest is one of the many Youth programs that aim to provide learning and achievement opportunities for young people and simultaneously promotes a means for young people to become aware and focus their thoughts and attitude towards becoming more thoughtful, considerate and tolerant members of the community; contributing to promoting a more harmonious and peaceful state of environment and ultimately world peace. The Lions Club of Sandringham has undertaken to sponsor students from interested schools for the LIPPC over a number of years. I have personally been involved with the Contest since 2007 and since that time the number of student participation in the Contest has increased tremendously – from 2007 to 2010, a total of 446 students from schools in the Sandringham and Brighton (thank you to Lions Club of Brighton for allowing our Club to approach schools that have shown interest in the Contest) Club areas have participated in the Contest. LIPPC for 2010/2011 is currently in progress – Lions Club of Sandringham is sponsoring students from three schools. Personally, I find the LIPPC to be an excellent program with much to offer those who are interested and willing to give it a try. Schools that usually select/appoint a specific teacher to manage the LIPPC at the school and allocate some class time to the Contest have had a great success rate. Some schools have found the Contest to be very useful and well suited to areas of the school curriculum. Sandringham East Primary School has participated in the LIPPC since it was introduced to

An opportunity to seek peace

schools. Brighton Grammar School has also participated for the past couple of years. Other schools that have participated in the LIPPC from 2007 to 2010 include Black Rock Primary School, Sandringham College – Highett Campus, Haileybury College – Castlefield Campus and St. Mary’s Primary School, Hampton. The LIPPC, just like any other project requires time and effort for it to be introduced, established and developed in schools and clubs. Adhering to LIPPC Rules and Conditions, the “Peace” message is also promoted into wider community – Lions Club of Sandringham usually displays Winning and Honourable Mention Peace Posters in the shopping areas of Sandringham and Hampton. Bayside Leader has also been a strong supporter of the LIPPC and has published articles about the LIPPC and photos of Winning students. Local businesses Sandringham Newsagency, Westpac Bank, Hampton Branch and Hampton Newsagency have been most supporting over the years. The LIPPC is about creating a better world and encouraging young people’s development and self-esteem. The Lions Club of Sandringham endeavours to encourage all participants by acknowledging and awarding certificates according to their participation and achievement. The Club also holds an informal awards evening, prior to a Business Meeting, for students that have achieved a winning place in their school judging of the Contest.

Corrections . . .On page 5 of the October Newsletter under the heading “Projects you have achieved”, somehow the gremlins emerged and projects attributed to Vermont Lions should have been credited to Mooroolbark, viz:Lions Club of Mooroolbark –Donate scholarships to local schools; we sponsored 200 youth to a bullying forum run by the Yarra Ranges Council; and, in conjunction with the Wilro Park Lions Club in South Africa we donated the money to purchase the equipment, which enabled Wilro Park Lions Club to physically build a house. And . . . under the heading Lions Club of Dandenong Supper it should have read:Lions Club of Lyndhurst & DistrictFeed the needy. Dandenong area. Twice per month;Donations to Peter Mac for cancer research;Sight First II is run in Sri Lanka sponsoring cataract surgery. And . . . on page 4 the picture showing Henry Broheir should have read Garry Wall presenting his Club banner. So . . . your District Newsletter Editor apologises profusely to all involved.

Inspired by Peace Poster Mag ArticleAN article on page 11, September 2011 edition, of the Education Department magazine Inspire, submitted by District 201V5 Peace Poster Chairman Lion Rod Moss, details the International Peace Poster Contest. It is hoped that school teachers will encourage their students to be involved in this worthwhile project and will contact their local Lions Club. Please ensure your Club supports any Education Department enquiry. Inspire is published monthly by the communications division for the department of education and early childhood development and has a circulation of over 73,000. Dingley Dozen Fun RunANOTHER year – another record. Each year the number of runners and walkers in the Annual Dingley Dozen Fun Run / Walk has increased and the absolutely perfect spring morning on Sunday, 25th September enticed them out again. As you can see by the photo, Nigel Chamberlain, a personal trainer, brought his family and friends along for the walk and this is what we have been promoting – a family fun run.

The 12k male winner was Corey Lawson (44.04) and 12k female winner was Rebecca Rogers (53.22). This year 45 Lions members from 10 Clubs provided the manpower for the day and we are extremely grateful for their help. Major sponsors were Parks Victoria, Bendigo Community Bank, Kingston City Council, Aston.ryan.malcolm, Khe Sanh Restaurant, Contours Dingley and Kingston Spinal & Osteopathic Clinic and we are indebted for their support – some of whom have been with us now for eight years.

Welcome Readers,IT is Convention time and a number of the LVIF Executive Committee are working at Conventions around the country and demonstrating the benefits of the idmate and the new GPS. Bernie Slagtman and Robert Spicer have just finished exhibiting at the 201 W1 District Convention where a number of conventioneers learned what LVIF is all about. Bernie and Robert have also been invited to attend a few local WA Clubs to talk about the id mate and LVIF. Ann Eldridge attended V1-4 Convention as well as the V5 Convention. Alan Fluck will be attending the V3 Convention and Glynis Bailey the V2 Convention. V6 LVIF Chairman David McCormack looked after a booth at his Convention on our behalf. Tric Smith from Queensland has also volunteered to assist us in Q1. LVIF continues to grow, with the Lions Club of Capalaba in 201 Q1 adopting LVIF as a Club project. Lion Jeff Underhill and Lions Lady Gerry Underhill both kicked off the launch with an extremely generous donation for the LVIF Capalaba project. This was in addition to another generous donation to LVIF for funding i.d.mates for the rest of the country. Very big thanks from Robert Spicer, on behalf of the blind community. This will enable many more Queenslanders to access i.d.mates, go Queensland! Jeff and his wife Gerry Underhill are now the first two life members. These life memberships were presented by LVIF Chairman Robert Kann at the Capalaba Lions Club in September. The first camp/retreat for the blind community was held at Licola. It was a great success and enjoyed by the participants. This was initiated by LVIF and run by Guide Dogs Victoria. It looks like this will be the first of many to come. This is another first for LVIF and thanks to the Lions who supported this camp. The Kapten PLUS GPS for Australians living with blindness and low vision, is taking off, with many in the community now having an affordable GPS that is easy to use. Many thanks to the RACV who donated $10,000 through their grants program for the further development

LVIF [VISUAL INDEPENDENCE]

of the GPS. RACV are enthusiastic about this new technology and plan to do a story in the RACV magazine next April. The inaugural LVIF AGM was successfully held at the V5 Convention and elections carried out for executive positions to the LVIF. Congratulations to Robert Kann and Ann Eldridge for being re elected and Wendy Meredith from Wheelers Hill Club in obtaining a position on the Executive Committee. It’s been a busy couple of months, and I am sure we will have more exciting news in the next month’s issue.

DG Lou’s Official Visit to Wheelers HillON 27th September the Lions Club of Wheelers Hill, President Kathy West welcomed special guests DG Lou and Lions Lady Kaye Onley, Zone Chairman Ray Allen and Barb Hahesy from the Lions Club on Onkaparinga in SA, along with members and partners. DG Lou spoke about his theme for this year “Together

As One We Serve”. DG Lou presented his personal award pins to President Kathy, PDG John Odgers and Secretary Wendy Meredith. Photo shows bannerettes from DG Lou being exchanged with President Kathy and Barb Hahesy.

Three new Dookie members inductedTHE Lions Club of Dookie re-wrote their own history books at their last dinner meeting; and the reason why was because they inducted three new members on the same night and they were all female! Well-done Dookie. On hand to induct Lexie Graham, Liz Feldtmann (sponsored by Lion Heather Waldron) and Wendy Cotter (sponsored by Club President, Lion Peter McManus) was Lion Ann Eldridge, President of the Chelsea District Lions Club. As Ann said on the night, “51% of the Australian population is female, yet only 23% of the Lions membership in Australia are women. We certainly need to correct that imbalance and I applaud Dookie Lions for inviting Lexie, Liz and Wendy to become Lions”.

Topping-up the Admin AccountTHE ever concerning problem that besets volunteers when requested to pay dues is no less an issue today as it was twenty years ago, thirty years ago for that matter. But there are some ways that Lions can reduce their Admin costs without taking the ‘hard-earned’ to do so from Activities Accounts, which of course is a no, no. A Member Club cannot use monies raised from the Public for administrative purposes. There is a clear expectation from the general public that monies given to a Lions Club by the general public will be used only for charitable or benevolent purposes. Should that perception change, our Association would suffer greatly; should the trust be abused we would suffer the loss of rights, which are presently enjoyed with the Australian Taxation Office. Any reasonable and justifiable expense incurred in the conduct of an activity carried out for the purpose of raising funds for charitable and benevolent purposes may be reimbursed out of the income from the Project, provided however, that such reimbursement does not result in a loss. On the other hand, for example, a commercial enterprise operating fun-runs that specifically request Lions Clubs to provide manpower for a function, there is no reason why the monies paid by that organisation for that activity could not be paid to the credit of the Administration Account provided the organisers, prior to payment, are made aware that the monies would be paid to help offset the administrative expenses of the Club. Just to reiterate, funds entrusted to our Association by the general public are done so in good faith. Any breach of that trust, by any Club, may well jeopardise our Association’s standing in the community. A bad experience will always be remembered longer than a good one.

Ron Smith, RBL Chairman

THE incredible results which can be achieved when Lions join forces and partner with other organisations were shown in all their glory at the District 201V5 Convention in Tatura recently – when a whole series of events came together to change the lives of many needy children. Firstly there was the announcement of the two recipients of the Annual District Governors 2011 Children of Courage Award: from Zone 4 the Kinglake Lions nominated a young 10 year old girl named Maya Dove who suffers from neuro-enteric cysts and has bravely faced multiple operations including fusion of her spine from top to bottom. From Zone 3 the Mooroolbark Lions nominated 4½ years old Leah who lives with a number of challenges which she faces daily with a cheeky smile and just gets on with things, including learning to stand up and take some steps after getting her Hart Walker.Project Awards basically freeTHE District Children of Courage Awards are basically a project that is free and open to all Clubs. It can even be used in addition to any of the wonderful local award events held around our individual Zones. The District Children of Courage just involves completion of a one page nomination form which is mainly approvals from parents/guardians and a little bit of information about the child up to 18 years (challenged or not). If you know of a child who has overcome obstacles, achieved beyond their means or just needs a bit of a boost through recognition – then complete a nomination form and send it in. Your Club will then receive (free) a laminated certificate with the child and club names clearly displayed which can be presented to the child as part of school assembly,

club night or event or another manner which suits the club and family involved. It’s free, simple and guaranteed to put a smile on the face of any child who sees the certificate stuck to the fridge each time they walk past! The nomination form and information brochure is available on the district website: www.201v5.lions.org.au/projects Each year the District Governor announces a recipient or two from the nominated children over the year to receive an additional Children of Courage Award in the form of a plaque. I’m pleased to advise that DG Lou Onley will be presenting his award to both Maya and Leah in the near future at an event organised by each Club. One of the many local Children of Courage events each year is the award ceremony at CPEC (Cerebral Palsy Education Centre) which Lion Ron Bromley OAM has organised for many years. The 2011 event is now scheduled for 22nd November, 2011 at 7.30 at CPEC in Glen Waverley. When Vermont became involvedVERMONT Lions and Ron Bromley became aware of CPEC through issues faced with his own son who suffers from multiple challenges including autism. At that time CPEC had a little office in Oakleigh – but Garry Prigg was just as passionate and devoted to helping children develop their full potential way back then. Some 20+ years later and the bond between Ron Bromley, Vermont and other Lions in our District with Garry Prigg and CPEC is even stronger. This close bond resulted in Garry Prigg, as Chairman and CEO of CPEC, being invited as a keynote speaker to the 201V5 Convention at Tutura on Saturday, 15th October, 2011.

Garry hits the emotion nerve . . .GARRY then introduced Mark Parfuss who had travelled up from Melbourne especially for the Convention with his wife Ash and son Tyler. Mark explained the sorrow and surprising joy of becoming a father to a little boy affected by cerebral palsy, where their journey had taken them and the difference that CPEC and Lions had made to Tyler’s life. Lions provided the funding for “second skins” which are a ribbed corset type of clothing designed to hold Tyler’s developing body straight as he grows and strengthens through CPEC development programs. For a child whose parents had been told he would never walk – there were many tears shed as 4yr old Tyler then walked unaided from the back of the Convention hall straight down the middle to reunite (giving a big smile and hug) with his loving dad. What better example of Lions and CPEC joining forces to make a change in someone’s life, it was very emotional – but there’s more, much more! During his speech Garry mentioned how CPEC had a goal of setting up a similar centre with locally trained professionals in Sri Lanka but had some major obstacles to overcome, including financial, but the ultimate dream was to take it to other countries in the world as well.Night function reveals moreFOLLOWING Garry’s speech and during the course of Saturday night’s festivities there were some major developments – and some might say a few miracles took place. Thanks to DG Lou Onley’s invitation to speak to Lions, CPEC have now been encouraged to lodge the International E-Learning Education & Training Course proposal with the LCIF, to open discussions to distribute the courses throughout India and to assist in establishing a service in Sri Lanka. A true reflection of his theme for the year… “Together as one we serve”. In one night the CPEC dream of building other centres around the world and offering to train professionals to run the programs and help many families just happened! Lions should be proud – young children around the world with cerebral palsy will enjoy a richer and more fulfilling life than ever imagined, and it’s going to happen through our support of CPEC. Lions should be proud!Karen YoungDistrict Children of Courage [email protected]
