www.thalesgroup.com General Reliable communications are of primary importance to coordinate the actions of ships, airborne platforms and land-based units to achieve mission goals with maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Therefore Thales has developed link systems for tactical communication between participating units. The Link Y Mk2 system is part of the family of Thales datalink systems that includes Link 11 and Link 16. The Link Y Mk2 has been developed specifically for non-NATO navies and provides features that result in the same and even better performance than Link 11. Link Y Mk2 enables the reliable transfer of tactical data amongst participating units via an encrypted RADIO network. The system allows secure establishment of a fleet-wide common tactical database by means of exchange of real- time and non real-time track and command data. This database greatly enhances the tactical picture for the participating units, enabling fusing of fleet-wide tactical track information for maximum reliability. The Link Y Mk2 network supports up to 31 participating units. The Link Y Mk2 can be integrated into: Naval Command & Control Systems - Airborne management- and tactical control systems - Ground-based stationary or mobile command and control centres LINK Y Mk2 Optionally, the Link Y Mk2 can also be used as a stand- alone or mobile unit with its own display and control unit. The Link Y Mk2 system provides support for the following standard interfaces: - Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol via Ethernet and other network media - RS232 and RS422 serial data links - MIL-STD 1553B - ARINC 419 and 429 Main Characteristics Designed for the Real-Time Exchange of Tactical Data Dynamic Time-Slotted Network with Data Rates up to 4800 bps Flexible Network can deal with any combination of Participating Units (Air, Sea and Shore) Relay Mode enables the use of HF, VHF and UHF in a Single Network and extended transmission range Built-in Encryption Module ensures Secure Data Transmission Pure Software solution on Standard Computer Boards The Link Y Mk2 system can be customised to meet the customer’s requirements. Thales has installed more than 90 Link Y Mk2 systems worldwide.

LINK Y Mk2

Optionally, the Link Y Mk2 can also be used as a stand-alone or mobile unit with its own display and control unit.

The Link Y Mk2 system provides support for the following standard interfaces:- Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol via

Ethernet and other network media- RS232 and RS422 serial data links- MIL-STD 1553B- ARINC 419 and 429

Main Characteristics

• Designed for the Real-Time Exchange of Tactical Data• Dynamic Time-Slotted Network with Data Rates up

to 4800 bps• Flexible Network can deal with any combination of

Participating Units (Air, Sea and Shore)• Relay Mode enables the use of HF, VHF and UHF in a

Single Network and extended transmission range• Built-in Encryption Module ensures Secure Data

Transmission• Pure Software solution on Standard Computer

Boards

The Link Y Mk2 system can be customised to meet the customer’s requirements. Thales has installed more than 90 Link Y Mk2 systems worldwide.

Airborne versionNaval version

ConfigurationLink Y Mk2 systems can be delivered in three versions, to meet specific environmental requirements:

- Naval version (“shipborne”): Link Y Mk2 is built in a housing compliant with

military standards which meets the requirements for equipment in a naval environment

- Airborne version: Link Y Mk2 is built in a fully certified air-worthy 1/2

or 1/4 ATR unit

- Ruggedized housing version: Link Y Mk2 is built in a ruggedized enclosure to

meet less restrictive environmental conditions. Maximum use is made of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf hardware, like a Personal Computer and standard enclosures

Link Y Mk2 is part of a full range of products. Link Y Mk2 can be installed onboard different platforms, such as: ships, submarines, helicopters, Maritime Patrol- and Surveillance Aircrafts, and Naval Headquarters or Naval Operation Centres. Other members of this family are data link applications for:- UAVs/UCAVs - Air Defence command and control- Link 11, Link 16 and Link 22
