Connecting a device

Connect the IO-Link device to the PC via the USB IO-Link master (V2.0) and, if the device has a display

or an indication of readiness, check the basic function (display of the status or the current value) of the

device on this interface. Via this connection, the device is also supplied with its operating voltage.

Start screen of the LINERECORDER SENSOR application

After the program is started, the online parameter setting is displayed and the applications described

further below are provided.

Application Description

Online parameter setting Permits parameter setting with device connection

Cockpit Displays instruments for all measurable parameters and an evaluation diagram

Offline parameter setting Permits parameter setting without device connection

Figure 1: Overview of the applications

Online parameter setting

Here, it is possible to install a device connected to the computer or to consult and change parameters.

In this context, either all parameters or the parameters of a selected filter can be displayed.

Figure 2: Online parameter setting

Selection of an application area (see chapter Start screen of the LINERECORDER SENSOR

application )

Operating elements:

1. Here, the values stored on the connected device are read. When the application is started,

the symbol is pink as long as no device is installed.

2. Here, the current values are written to the device.

3. This makes it possible to store the parameters in a file (file name extension: .lrp).

Page 6: LINERECORDER SENSOR Installation and operating instructionsmedia.automation24.com/manual/en/706400.pdfLINERECORDER SENSOR User manual Page 6 out of 11 4. This makes it possible to

4. This makes it possible to read and display the parameters stored in a file. After clicking on

this icon, the user can select the file that is to be read from.

5. This makes it possible to download updates of the IODD files. When the icon is pink, new

updates for the currently stored IODD files are available. The updates can be imported

automatically or manually. When the icon is grey, there are no updates more recent than the

current ones. In this case, only manual updating is possible.

Figure 3: List of available updates

Updates for all (upper field) or individual devices can be installed. To load an IODD file that is

not on the list, click on "Browsing …" to select an IODD file.

6. There, the displayed parameters are prepared for a print preview in a separate browser

window. The print preview contains the parameter name, the current value, the present value

(value on delivery), the permitted minimum and maximum value as well as a brief description.

It is also possible to add remarks. This overview can be printed.

7. This makes it possible to open the online user manual in a separate browser window.

Filter selection (all or individual filters): only the parameters of the selected filter are displayed.

When "all" is selected, all parameters are displayed.

Editing parameters (input field or selection from list).

The pen symbol indicates a currently modified parameter.

Header with information and an image of the installed device. The link in the bottom left image

opens the product description of the device in a separate browser window.

The following information is given in the header:

1. Device name, e.g. TD2501

2. Manufacturer, e.g. ifm electronic gmbh

3. Device ID, e.g. 375

4. Serial number of the device, e.g. j0060150114

5. Device type, e.g. measured signal converter for temperature sensors

6. Hardware revision/firmware revision (internal version IDs), e.g. AB / 108

7. Device status (only displayed in the online parameter setting)

The header is shown both in the online and in the offline parameter setting.

Memory plug

A memory plug (E30398) can be used in the online parameter setting to save parameter values of any

unit. When a memory plug is connected, additional information is shown in the header:

1. Write protection – is represented by a lock symbol. If the lock is open, it is possible to write on

a filled memory plug – please note: this can produce inconsistent data! If the lock is closed

(memory plug blocked), it is not possible to write on a filled memory plug.

2. Stored device: if the memory plug is filled, the name of the device whose data is stored on the

memory plug is indicated.

The data of a device can be written on a memory plug (only possible if the memory plug is not already

filled with the data of another device).

Writing to the memory plug:

1. Connect a device whose data you would like to write to the memory plug, and install it.

2. Edit the parameters as you wish.

3. Connect a memory plug, but do not install the device.

4. Click on the button "Write to device".

The data is now stored on the memory plug. With the system commands "Command 'Write protect'"

and "Command 'Read Write'", the write protection can be activated or deactivated.

If a filled memory plug is installed, an additional icon appears at the top right. When you click on

this icon, the parameters of the device whose values are stored on the memory plug are displayed.

The icon changes to . When you click on this changed icon, the parameter list of the memory plug

and the first icon reappear.

Cockpit

Evaluation of measured values

The representation consists of 2 parts. In the upper part, 1 or several display instruments of the

connected sensor are shown with the current values of the measurable parameters ("Data sources").

In the lower part, a time diagram with the current values is shown. The time range of the diagram can

be changed with the "Edit" button of the diagram.

diagram.

Editing the diagram (headline, duration of the displayed interval in seconds) of the displayed data

sources

Operating elements of the cockpit:

1. Adjusting the sampling rate: how often are new measured values to be captured

2. Export: the measured values of the diagram display are written to a CSV file

3. Opening the user manual (see chapter Online parameter setting)

Offline parameter setting

The offline parameter setting is used to edit parameter sets even if no corresponding device is

connected to the interface.

Figure 5: Offline parameter setting

Data of a device

View of the device catalogue: here, the manufacturer, device group and device type are shown

Symbol for inadmissible values: the current value of the parameter is invalid

Operating elements:

These are equivalent to the ones in chapter Online parameter setting. Reading a connected unit and

writing to an installed unit are not possible here.

The data of a device can be loaded via the device catalogue or from a file.

Saving a device file

In the offline mode, a manufacturer, a device group and then a device from this manufacturer can be

selected. In the offline mode, the data of the current device can be saved.

After the device is selected, the standard values of this device are imported. The representation is the

same as for the online parameter setting.

The values of the parameters can be changed (depending on the parameter, either by editing or by

selecting a different value from a list).

The current values can be written into a file. The acceptability of the values is not checked. The file has

the extension .lrp and is in the download directory of the computer. It is possible to reload an LRP file

and to display the parameter values again that are stored there.

Loading a stored device file

Parameters of a device can also be read from a device file that was stored before (see chapter Online

parameter setting).
