TRANSCRIPT

I will show you something different from eitherYour shadow at morning striding behind youOr your shadow at evening rising to meet you;I will show you fear in a handful of dust

April is the cruellest month, breedingLilacs out of the dead land, mixingMemory and desire, stirringDull roots with spring rain.

T.S. Eliot

the Wasteland

“What are the roots that clutch, what branches growOut of this stony rubbish? Son of man,You cannot say, or guess, for you know onlyA heap of broken images, where the sun beats,And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,And the dry stone no sound of water. OnlyTheThere is shadow under this red rock,(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),And I will show you something different from eitherYour shadow at morning striding behind youOr your shadow at evening rising to meet you;I will show you fear in a handful of dust.”

T. S. Eliot - The Wasteland.

For my final project, I am creating a poster inspired by T.S. Eliot's -”The Wasteland”. The poem is very visual and visceral and so I will be trying to capture some of this. I am focusing on Part 1 - “The Burial of the Dead”.

There are a few key lines that I have focused on when choosing my imagery, such as:

“April is the cruellest month, b“April is the cruellest month, breeding”“Dull roots with spring rain.”“What are the roots that clutch, what branches growOut of this stony rubbish?”“And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,And the dry stone no sound of water. OnlyThere is shadow under this red rock,”
