Introduction
Some important technical terms
These product samples and technical catalogue are to summarize the construction foils (underlay foils, vapour barrier) offered to roof and wall structures assembled from Lindab lightweight steel profiles.
It is very important to know, that choosing the proper construction foil is an essential part of the complex design process. The appropriate and durable solution can only be guaranteed in view of all the necessary technical details of the real construction to be realized. Paying attention to every aspect of the designing sectors (e.g. roofing or facade cladding, rainwater systems and insulation, heat- and vapour techniques) is the responsibility of the designer.
• Roofing, roofage:the top layer, coating of the roof structures that is in charge of rainwater diversion.
• level of water tightness:the roofing can be water-proof, acutely water-tight or watertight. The level of required water tightness is basically determined by the inclination of the roof (the lower the inclination, the stricter the requirements).
• Metal (steel) based roofings, roofage:The steel based roofings are typically: self-supported big or small-size boards (tile effect or trapezoid sheets) or completely supported flat roofing (standing seam roofing). Steel materials used for roofings are water-proof itself, but owing to joints, fittings, closed-ends and roof break-throughs watertight or acutely watertight roofings can be shaped. It is important to keep in mind when using steel roofing materials that they ought to reach extreme temperature depending on weather circumstances (they follow the change of temperature relatively fast). They also tend to collect moisture, vapour condensation and water dripping may occur.
• Underlay shell (category):A layer built in under the roofing to increase water tightness (secondary water diversion). Underlay foils, underlay boards (hanged independently or laid on full surface underlay) and waterproof membrane sheets are all classified in this category. The grouping of underlay shells (see table below) and the requirements can be found e.g. in the technical publication of EMSZ federation, the Design and construction guidelines to underlay shells (www.emsz.hu).
All the following attributions should be taken into consideration to choose the appropriate underlay shell: characteristics of the roofing, inclination, function of the attic, type of utilization (uninsulated, not built-in attic or heat insulated, built-in attic), shape of the roof (valleys, superstructures, breakthroughs, etc.) and extraordinary extreme weather impacts (rain, snow, wind) as well.

Introduction
• Single- and double ventilated roof structure:In case of single ventilated roofs, the air space is found between roofage and the roof underlay; in the case of double ventilated roofs there is air space between roofage – roof underlay, and also between roof underlay and heat insulation.
• Vapour barrier:High vapour diffusive resistance foil, that is placed on the inner side of the heat insulation in case of heat-insulated, mounted roof or wall.

lindab laf roofing underlay foil for pitched supported or unsupported roof constructions, without sarking
Product description
Application guide
• lindab laf construction foil consists of two parts
• The bottom part is 90 mm long, fine polypropylene (PP) string – several technical steps – made from felt (150g/m2)
• One side of the felt is heat treated and covered with polypropylene (PP) melt
• The coating contains aluminium pigments and UV stabilizer
• The specific mass of the products is min. 200g/m2, the width of the roll is 1300mm, length is 50m
• Laf underlay foil is applicable in case of lamellar and hard board coating, low and high inclination roofs. Application can prevent dust, snow-dust, rainwater-jam passing into the attic or in the multi-layered roof structure.
• Top part is watertight, heat-reflector-like, bottom (felt coated) part is hygroscopic, vapour holder. It is moderately breathable from the inner side. It is recommended primarily in case of double ventilated roofs.
• laf underlay foils should be placed on the top of rafters in case of traditional wooden roof structure, and in case of full wooden board underlay be nailed to the boarding.
• the fixation on the rafter should be guaranteed with spacer counter batten. laf underlay foil should be placed perpendicular to the rafter, starting from the eaves, crinkle- and fold-free, with maximum 3-4 cm foil hanging.
• The elongation of the foil has to be guaranteed with at least 10 cm overlapping. In case of rafters the fixation should be done over the rafter (it is not compulsory in case of board underlay)
• The underlay foil should be formed at the eaves as if the rainwater is running on the foil out, it should not soak the facade, eaves or shoulders. The ventilation of roofs with laf underlay foil should be properly designed and appropriate level of ventilation should always be guaranteed under every circumstances. The underlay foil should be led up to the planned height of the flashing in case of chimneys, ventilation elements, other pass-throughs mounted with metal sheet flashings, and the fixation should be guaranteed mechanically or by adhesives. The underlay foil should be continuous under the different metal sheet accessories.
• The construction of laf underlay foil should be designed and organized in a manner that until the final sealing of the roof the wind cannot snap into it or ruin it any way. The roofing should be done within 1-2 weeks after the underlay foil is mounted. The appropriate application temperature is between -40 and +80˚ C.
• The overlapping is recommended to be done parallel to the eaves line in case of steel halls (steel sheet cladding, steel purlins) and typically low inclination roofs.
• To avoid hanging of the foil it should be riveted temporarily to the purlins (until mounting the cladding)
• In case installing the foil perpendicular to the eaves line a galvanized steel wire should be expanded under the overlappings, in the upper plane of the purlins that prevents overhanging.
• Perfect air- and water-tightness – especially in case of low inclination roofs – is only guaranteed by the continuation of the foil rolls, that can be executed with hot air welding, close tacking or by using sealing mastic. The closed air layering improves the efficiency of the heat insulation as well.

lTf 115 breathable roofing underlayfor pitched supported or unsupported roof constructions, without sarking
Product description
Installation
• lTf 115 is manufactured by thermally bonding two spunbonded polypropylene fabric layers, with a microporous film, between the two layers, to form a breathable waterproof membrane.
• It is fully recyclable.
• The membrane is produced with a grey upper surface and white lower layer.
• lTf 115 is satisfactory for use as unsupported or supported light-weight breather underlay in pitched roof construction without sarking. The special design of lTf 115 provides good tightness against rain water. Extreme water vapour permeability keeps roof construction dry and ventilated under all weather conditions.
• lTf 115 allows any moisture within the construction to pass out of the building while offering some weather protection from rain and snow.
• lTf 115 does not rot, it´s resistant to moulds or pests and it corresponds with health standards.
• lTf 115 may be used also for vertical wall constructions as air-leakage barrier. Therewith, a closed system for heat insulation and rain, snow, dampness and dust penetration protection is created.
• Before installing lTf 115 ensure that the surfaces to be covered are firmly fixed, clean, dry and smooth
• When installed, the lTf 115 is laid horizontally across the roof slope over insulation or rafters and secured with non corrosive flat-headed nails or staples. Batten spacing should not exceed 1,2 m.
• Counter battens at least 25 mm thick are then installed over the underlay and fixed through to the rafters. The battens for tiling are fixed to the counter battens leaving space between the underlay and the battens for drainage.
• When lTf 115 is applied on an impregnated rafters or counter batten, it can be realized only after the paint is dry.
• Lay lTf 115 loose, flat and without wrinkles.
• Laps should be preferably sealed with LRG-2 tape. Adhesive PVC should not be used for sealing and joining laps.
• Attention to details is important. Avoid blockages where possible that would otherwise prevent the free drainage of water.

• lTf 300 is rain resistant roofing underlay-when being sealed with sealing accesories accordingly to installation guidelines.
• lTf 300 is available also with integrated sealing tapes on both sides for quick and easy-to-make installation.
• lTf 300 can be used also as wind-break underlay for wall constructions.
• The membrane is to be installed printed side up.
• The installation starts from gutter side of the roof upward to the ridge, horizontally, with overlaps of 15 cm.
• In case of roof slope under 22°, sealing of overlaps with sealing tape is recommended (integrated, or LRG-15). Vertical connection of lTf 300 must be made over the rafter.
• The membrane is fixed to boarding or rafters by non corrosive flat-headed nails or staples and only over the overlapping area.
• In case of any construction elements penetrating the lTf 300, sealing the penetration by LRG-15 tape is strongly recommended.
• To create rain-resistant sealing, LRG-TPK is to be used. It should be used for roofs with slope under than 15° anyway.
• lTf 300 when being uncovered, can not be weathered for more, than 9 months from installation. It must be covered by roof covering within this time period.
• The roof covering has to be ventilated accordingly to manufacturer’s installation instructions, and proper ventilation gap on top of lTf 300 must be obtained throughout the installation area.
• To create rain-resistant roof construction, sealing of counterbattens with the tape is necessary.

lSZ 500 breathable membrane for flat sheetsBreathable membrane with separating layer
Product description
Installation
• lSZ 500 is manufactured as 4-layer product consisting of vapour permeable waterproof membrane with a structured polypropylene separating layer.
• It is fully recyclable. lSZ 500 is satisfactory for use in ventilated and nonventilated pitched roofs with metal standing seam roof covering (copper, Zinc, Aluminium, stainless steel, etc.).
• Vapour permeable waterproof underlay allows the evaporation of the moisture from the inner space of building and protects the thermal insulation against any external moisture that may penetrate the outer metal standing seam roof covering.
• The structured separating layer provides an air space below metal standing seam roof covering and allows ventilation of the moisture from the underside of metal roof covering. It protects covering against corrosion.
• Any moisture built up between the outer metal roof covering and lSZ 500 will be channeled to the eaves due to the nature of the 8 mm high structured separating layer. LSZ 500 reduces transmission of external sounds, for example rain hammer.
• lSZ 500 is laid between the timber deck or insulation and the outer metal standing seam roof covering.
• It can be laid either horizontally or vertically, overlapped. It is secured with non corrosive flatheaded nails or staples on the overlap.
• When lSZ 500 is applied on an impregnated rafters or timber sarking, it can be realized only after the paint is dry.
• Horizontal overlaps should be preferably sealed and vertical overlaps must be sealed with connecting tape. Adhesive PVC should not be used for sealing and joining laps.

lPZ 110 Vapour barriersUniversal reinforced vapour barrier
Product description
Installation
• lPZ 110 is manufactured as polyolefine multilayer reinforced vapour barrier in transparent colour.
• lPZ 110 seals well against moisture and vapour penetration, regardless if it is used in pitched or flat roof construction, vertical wall construction or in ceiling.
• lPZ 110 is used in combination with an exterior vapour permeable underlay. Combination of perfectly vapourtight layer beneath the insulation and breathable underlay to the outside ensures avoiding of spontaneous moisture condensation inside of thermal insulation, thus faultless function of thermal insulation is ensured.
• lPZ 110 is placed parallel or crosswise onto the rafters, directly beneath the thermal insulation.
• AII overlaps should be sealed with sealing tape.
• Irregularities, such as masonry openings or wall junctions have to be sealed with sealing tape preferably.

Principles of application:1. The natural warming of the steel roof sheet due to changes in the weather conditions can partly ensure the drying of the moisture held
in the felt layer. Although continuous ventilation of the inner room with openings for air movements into and out of the building should be granted with adequate design and construction.
2. The anti-condense felt has capillarity characteristics, and thus it is important to prevent rain water infiltrating inside through the felt layer at overlaps. The felt is not applied on the sidelaps of the profile by factory made production, which guarantees the protection from infiltration. Through technological reasons of production the felt coating is continuous on the whole length of the sheet, thus in case of critical places (in case of transversal overlapping 5-10 cm, in case of the last panel where the water runs off to the gutter, around 5 cm) the capillary absorption should be prevented with manual solution. This can be done with local removal of the felt layer, burning, hot-air melting or water based lacquer paint.
lindab anti-condense roof sheets
Product description, applicationLindab roof profiles (trapezoid, tile effect roofing) are optionally available with anti-condense (capable to absorb condensation) lower felt coating. The manufactured installation of the felt ensures the strong and durable adhesion, the evenly high technical quality.
Role of the anti-condense felt layer:A special characteristic of the single-layered, steel sheet roofing is that condensation may occur on the inner (lower) surface under certain atmospheric circumstances (dew-point temperature). Such moisture can damage the building structure under the roofing and/or the material and equipment stored in the building in the form of water dripping. Special lower felt layering with high anti-condense capability serves the prevention of harmful dripping. Its further positive attribute is that it is non-burnable, resists to bacteria and has favourable impact on the sound insulation of single-coated steel roofing.

Application area
It is recommended in case of un-insulated, single layer steel roofing. The felt layer applied under production circumstances on the backside of the roof profiles are suitable for holding the moisture convergence and preventing water dripping. The room under the roofing should be ventilated appropriately, and the felt layer should be removed at overlappings and eaves overhanging. The felt layer is non-burnable, resists to bacteria and has favourable impact on the sound insulation of single-coated steel roofing.
