FOREWORD

The United States, being the vast country that it is, often becomes a problem

for young students to learn about. This eBook is a Limerick view of the USA.

The country is divided into five regions, each region consisting of the relevant

states. There is a limerick for every state, which tells the reader a little about

that state.

This will hopefully be a fun way, and make it a bit easier, for students and

pupils to learn about the USA.

InAlaskaits cold and clear

A state wi th lots of moose and deer

A place wi th lots of snow and s leds

The warmest place is in ones bedall through out the year

InWyomingthere are great n ames

The Rocky Mountains and Great Plains

Its well known for its coal and oil

Its climate varies, and its soil

I t even hos ts the Winter Games.

Th eMontanafarmers are not shy

They produ ce their barley, oats and rye,

From here you access Yellowstone Park

Where Old Faithful Geyser makes its mark

What a state, Oh My Oh My!

The beaut iful state ofIdaho

Is the place where all should goI t can be hu mid and qu i te hot

Its technologically strong and does a lot

named after a steamship called Idaho.

Oregons on the Pacif ic coast

Its rugged coastlines quite a boast

From Crater Lake to Haystack Rock

And busy por ts for ships to dock

And Miss Oregon is th is s tates host

In Coloradothe weathers extreme

Its severe cold and hot is no t a dream

With ro l l ing val leys and majes t ic mounta ins

F lowing r ivers and lunging founta ins

This state would m ake quite a theme.

Its baseball team is the Yakima Bears

They grow cherr ies and apples and wheat

and pears

In Washingtontheres lots to do

Including a visit to the zoo

And a walk up th e White House stairs

Kansasi s a hum id s t at e

called the American Heart land of late

Well known for its cattle and sheep

And lots of wheat which Kansas reap

Its rural beauty its common trait

Found on the US Great Plains

Is Nebraskawith lots of t ra ins

Whi le many people farm or ranch

Others would prefer to square-danceA state a li t t le short of rains .

In South and North Dakota

The farmers make their quota

They farm barley and wh eat

And turkeys and m eat

And they border on Minnesota.

Its capital city is called Saint Paul

The MinnesotaVik ings play footbal l

They eat Potlucks, a casserole

In winter snow spor ts take cont ro l

Its raw materials industry is not so small.

The Indians and the French came f irst

Iowas lakes give no chance of thirst

The Miss iss ippi and Missour i r ivers

And ext reme cold gives one the shiversAnd large tornados are the wo rs t .

In the 1800s they had many slaves

St Louis is the pr inc ipal c i ty

And sm al ler town s which are real ly

pret ty

This inland state has got no waves.

A state known as Americas dairyland

Wisconsins really not that bland

I t produces oats and corn and cheese

And maple syrup i f yo u please

Its capital Madison carries its brand.

Chicago is I l l inoiss urban heart

With 3 mi l l ion people play ing thei r

par t

In 1818 slavery was stop ped

While cotton, corn and wheat are

cropped

And sum mers are humid and winters

are harsh.

Lower Michigani s dubb ed the mit tenTrouts the state fish or so its written

Its the 8thpopulous s tate in the USA

Lansings the capital Ill have to say

In land area its smaller than Britain!

The name of Ohio means large CreekThe climates humid , not too bleak

Columbus is the larges t c i ty

Its scenic beauty makes it prettyThe glacier plains make it quite unique!

Indianais called the Hoosier stateIts economy has grown at quite a rate

Also called the Indian Land

Steel and corn s upply th e land

The Indi 500 race is also great!

Californiais the 3rd largeststate

And grow ing at a s teady rate

From Lake Tahoe to Salton Sea

Im sure that you would agree

Its quite a state, theres no debate!

Nevadais a desert state

where gamb ling happen s at a great rate

From Mt Charleston to the Great Basin

The ideal place for a stone mason

To cast his name in a piece of slate

I f sk i ing is yo ur game

Then Utahcou ld b r ing you fame

A place wi th lots and lots of sn ow

Wil l really keep you on the go

A state where f irst the Mormo ns came

New Mexicois quite the place

It started with th e Indian race

Cit ies like Roswell and Sante Fe

Make this state the place to stay

Its rust ic beauty with lots o f space.

The Grand Canyon and Colorado r iver

Is Ar izonas nature giver

The state is dry and h as monsoon s

With lots of sand and ro l l ing dun es

And a natural beauty that wil l make you

quiver .

Oklahoma l ies in the Great PlainsIts tornado country with frequent rains

Oklahoma City is its capital

I ts state folk dance can cause a th ri l l

I t prod uces beef and wheat and grains.

Texasi s known for i ts blondes and oi lI t has the mos t farms and fert i le soil

This state has very variable w eather

I ts highways and airports keep Texas togetherA beauty that must not go to spoi l !

Hawaii is the only stateThat f loats upon a tectonic plate

And grow s cof fee and has a palace

And is n ot too far away from Dallas

Its lovely weather makes this island

great!

The scenery is really pret ty

Its spring mud season is quite a shame!The humid c l imate of Connect icutThey love their sport , it keeps them fit

George Walker Bush w as born and b red here

A Democrats state for many a year

Its the Nutmeg State and quite a hit!New York City and Buffalo

Are the two best cit ies of this state to knowThe Statue of l iberty was a gif t from France

New York State is its name by chanceAnd winters are long wi th lots of snow!

Blueberries are Maines claim to fame

With tour ism and hunt ing giv ing i t qui te a name

Mainei s home to many a shipyardThe state animal, a moo se is in high regard

And the u nemployment rate is qui te a shame!

The Commonweal th of Pennsylvania, or so its calledThis keystone state will keep you enthralledI ts famous for its Philadelphia zoo

And ar t museums and state parks too

Milks the state beverage so dont be appalled!

Rhode Island is called the Ocean StateKnown for c lam cakes which makes th is s tate great

Its a colonial base for fishing and farming

Its textile market is declining - . . ..alarmin g!

Providence is capital, thats no debate.

The New Jersey turnpike is a busy roadwayIts the birthplace of Sinatra, Ill sayTrenton is the capital city

The oak trees are many and oh, so pretty

A busy s tate at the end of the day!

Also called the Granite state

Wet and cold winters, theres no debate

New Hampshires named af ter Hampshi re countyNo state or sales tax, thats quite a bounty

So visit this s tate, just make a date!

Marylandand Belguim are the same sizeTo guess the weather, there wont be a prize

Its humid and cool around the yearA state rich in fauna, and foxes and deer

Controlled by Democrats, its no surprise!

The second sm allest state is DelawareThey produce soybeans and chickens there

Count ies called New Cast le, Sussex and Kent

Their air service is a non event

A peaceful state so see you there!

Massachusettsis a New England state

Its deciduous forests make it really great

Home to coyote, raccoon and b ear

Sai l ing and yacht ing gives one lots of f resh ai r

And in win ter its ice f ishing and t im e to ice skate!

Fort Lauderdale and Tampa too

The Everglades is a place to view

The state is not far from the sea!The Yellowhammer state or so its called

Alabama parks keep all enthralledMontgomery is the capital city

Its longleaf pine is really pretty

And Birmingham city is greatly walled

Atlanta is the largest city

Its pines and oaks make Georgia prettyIts known for its movies like Forest Gump

Its 160 birds make this state no dump

Nicknamed Peach state is a little witty!

Pine forest are dominant in Mississippi stateLittering increases at an alarming rate

Its state symbol is the magnolia tree

Jackson is the capital city

Its highest in its obesity rate!

Driskill Mountains its highest point

And New Orleans is not a bad jointLouisianas known as New France tooIts National parks provide much to view

This beautiful state will not disappoint!

Its eastern border is the Mississippi River

Arkansass climate should not make youshiver

The most populous city is Little Rock

Producing eggs, cotton and rice is no shock

Born here was Clinton who was quite a giver!

The Bobwhite quail is the state game bird

Indians were the first, I heard

Tis a tropical climate for the year, I wish

The Largemouth Bass is the states main fish

Its Tennessee state, you overheard!

The Mammoth Cave Park is in KentuckyTo visit this state youd be very lucky

Its Lincoln and Daviss birthplace

The Kentucky Derby is an exciting race

And KF chicken is not so yucky!

Both states are on the Atlantic coast

North and South Carolina can really boastThe Blue Ridge mountains and its many lakesIts tropical cyclones can give you the shakes

The state toast is called the Tar Heel toast!

Called the Old Dominion state

The Virginia fair is quite a dateThe state fish is the tasty Brook trout

Its capital Richmonds worth a scout about

Mainly Christian and protestant of late

Natural beauty brings West Virginia fameCharleston is the capitals name

Logging and coal mining keep this state on the map

A sub-tropical climate with an odd cold snapSkiing, caving and fishing are this states main game!
