Volun-teers assist Public Health Nurses in working with children and their families at weekly Child Health Clinics. Volunteers are needed for Chilliwack Pub-lic Health. Cyrus Centre Cyrus Centre is in need of volunteers to help 4 hours/week in managing the resource centre. Volunteers help prepare and serve food, also with cleaning. However, the main job of volun-teers to build healthy and meaningful relationships with both vulnerable and homeless youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters – Community Based Mentoring We are looking for Men & Women over the age of 19 interested in being matched in our Community based program. Spend 2-4 hours per week in the community doing activities with a little buddy. Mentorship helps children stay in school, avoid risky behavior, and become more involved in their com-munity. This program can help you learn leadership skills and gain valuable volunteer experience. Teen In-School Mentoring Teen Mentoring matches Grade 10-12 students with elementary and middle school students in need of support and friend-ship. For one hour per week you and your little buddy can talk, playing games or sports, do arts and crafts, just hang out in the playground- these are all ways the two of you can share an hour of quality time together.

In-School Mentoring Spend one hour per week meeting a little buddy on school property, during school hours throughout the school year. Adults are very welcome to participate, mentoring through fun activities within the school.

Family Place Network Would you like to spend time interacting with children and parents in a safe drop-in setting? Family Places are set up across Chilliwack, and require volunteers to sup-port both children and their parents in having a pleasant experience. Making snacks, setting out crafts, setting up the play space, holding a story time or sing along—Family Place is a great place to volunteer to gain skills and build connections. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley Big Bunch Leaders Needed! Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley is seeking caring, positive adult role models age 19-99 for our “Big Bunch” program. Always wanted to become a Big Brother or Big Sister but can’t commit to weekly outings with a mentee? Big Bunch is a program for our waitlist kids who are waiting for their Big that only requires a once per MONTH commitment. You get to mentor up to 3 waitlist kids with similar interests once a month for 2-3 hours while doing fun, recreational activities in the community Activities might include bowling, ice-skating, swimming, indoor rock-climbing or arts and craft night.

Human Service Career Program

If you are a University student in Human services or social sciences we need you. Join Big Brothers Big Sisters in mentoring Grade 10 students at CSS who are registered in the Human Service Career Program. The position will require you to attend 8 Saturday trainings with your mentee that focus on topics related to Human services. During the course of the school year you will take your mentee to a University class. The position gives UFV students co-curricular credit and certificates and training that will benefit you career development, all while impacting your community through mentorship.

Volunteering with Seniors

The Chilliwack Senior Recreation Centre

The CSRC is a lively and fun place to volunteer, with lots of ways to help. In addition to a variety of rec-reational on site activities, the CSRC maintains an inhouse cafe which provides light lunches, baked goods, etc from 10am until 4 pm. Monday through Wednesday, as well as various scheduled weekly or monthly events. We always are in need of volunteers for basic improvements at our Centre which would require an aptitude or comfort with carpentry or DIY projects. We also would be pleased to ac-quire a volunteer to help with our BCLC sanctioned bingo on Mondays. We are located in Downtown Chilliwack, right by Central Park. Volunteering with Seniors

Better At Home

The Better at Home Program is accepting applications today for “Friendly Visitors” Please contact Program Coordinator Sarah Woelders at 604.393.3251 ex 240 or [email protected] in Chilliwack or Fiona Delcourt at 604.796.2585 [email protected] in Agassiz-Harrison. These positions require a one hour weekly commit-ment. A weekly visit creates lasting, meaningful, rela-tionships between seniors and volunteers. With regu-lar visits, isolated seniors experience improved physi-cal, mental, and emotional health and gain a more positive outlook. No clinical care is required, just a social visit. Hours are flexible and negotiated be-tween the senior and volunteer. These positions are ideal for retired individuals and those prepared to make lasting relationships.

Community Drivers Do you enjoy driving and sharing your time with sen-iors and other clients, who are in need of medical and other transportation? We are cur-rently looking for people (especially women) who are willing to share their time and vehicle to help with transportation needs. A per km charge will be paid to you. Meals on Wheels Delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors is a great way for you and your kids to get involved in the community. We deliver meals 5 days a week to Chilli-wack and Sardis! Deliveries happen Monday through Friday, starting at 11:30am; only an hour or two out of your day! Choose one regular day a week or one full week a month. Parent Support BC

Are you interested in improving your interpersonal and group facilitation skills while helping grandparents raise their grandchildren? Work with the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group Facilitation program at the Parent Support Services Society of BC. We run self-help circles located throughout the lower mainland and are searching for professional and supportive individuals to assist them. This volunteer position includes a three day training session on group facilitation which will take place in Burnaby over a weekend on June 3 (evening), June 4 (daytime) and June 5 (daytime). Eden Care Centre We are currently seeking volunteers for a couple different opportunities at our facility. Are you comfortable around seniors and can carry a conversation? You would be per-fect to engage in social visits with some of our resi-dents. Do you have a special skill such as music, art, or dance? We are always eager to learn new skills or see something new, so we would love to have you share or teach us during either a one day visit or a set weekly or monthly programs such as crafts, baking, and games. Community Volunteering

The Chilliwack Hospice Society Recruiting people who would be interested in playing music or singing at the Cascade Hospice Residence. This would take place in the great room area of the residence, not in individual rooms, and would (probably) not involve direct con-tact with any patients. Chillwack Restorative Justice and Youth Advocacy Association We are in need of volunteers for helping with: the Community Accountability Panel as either a member or facilitator, Commu-nity Justice Forum facilitators, and Commu-nity Mentors. Tasks would involve sitting on panels, office work, interviewing, con-necting clients to services, and delivering apology letters. Training is provided for all the roles, including extensive training in facilitation. Volunteering with Restorative Jus-tice lets you work directly with people, identify their needs, and support victims of crime. CNIB VisionMates needed in Chilliwack to provide sighted assistance for individu-als with vision loss. Help someone once a week for a few hours with activities such as read-ing, going for walks, and running errands. This is a mini-mum 6 month commitment, with training provided. Correctional Service of Canada Assisting successful offender reintegrate into the community is critical to their success and our safety. We are looking for confident, well-rounded, community minded individuals. The Chilliwack Learn-ing Society We are seeking volunteers to tutor and mentor adults in our community, including adults completing academic goals, newcomers wanting to improve their English, and adults with other learning goals who would ap-preciate a little help from someone else. The program has a “learner centered” approach, which means that there is no curriculum, but that learners and tutors work on goals as decided upon by the learner. Learn-ers and tutors work together in one-on-one pairs, in small groups, or in classrooms. Ongoing training, re-sources and support are provided to the tutors by the Chilliwack Learning Society. The Stroke Recovery Associa-tion of BC We are looking for volunteers to help us run our program in Chilliwack. The pro-gram runs every Wednesday morning from 9:30-12:30 at Evergreen Hall 9291 Corbould Street. Volunteers will work directly with people who have had a stroke and their caregivers in the delivery recovery programs such as exercise, communication, so-cial, and support activities.
