Purpose of Lightweight fighter program

To determine the feasibility of developing a small, light-weight, low-cost fighter, to establish what such an aircraft can do, and to evaluate its possible operational utility.

Performance Goal and Objectives

LWF prototype candidates should have a gross weight of less than 20,000 pound; possess superior performance and maneuvering in the transonic, high-G regime; be capable of operating in a 225 nautical mile (nmi) combat radius on internal fuel, and 700 nmi radius with external fuel.

The aircraft should be capable of Mach 1 to 1.2 performance at sea level, and Mach 2 at altitude.

Flight envelope clearance was to be 10000-40000ft, 0.6-1.6 Mach.Energy maneuverability performance data was to include a sustained turn at 30000ft, 0.9 Mach; a sustained turn at 30000ft, 1.2 Mach; an instantaneous turn at 40000ft, 0.8 Mach; specific excess power (Ps) envelopes; and acceleration time at 30000ft from 0.9 to 1.6 Mach.Assessments of high angle-of-attack flight characteristics were to include departure resistance, handling qualities, and engine operation.Tracking characteristics were to be assessed.Weapons/engine/airframe compatibilities including AIM-9E and gun firings were to be evaluated.Mission performance on the air superiority mission was to be assessed against the RFP parameters.Air combat maneuvering suitability mission was to receive special emphasis. This illustrates that streamlined management was not misconstrued to mean lack of guidance.

Wing 의 종류

Elliptical Wing : 일정한 AR 기준, 유도항력 (Induced Drag)을적게 발생시키는 "이상적인" 날개 형태이다. 실속(Stall) 특성은좋지 않으며, 제작이 용이하지 않다.

Rectangular Wing : 실속 특성은 좋으나, 고속에서의 성능은 좋지 않다. Elliptical Wing 보다 많은 Induced Drag를 발생시킨다.

Tapered Wing : 날개 끝에서 실속이 먼저 발생하기에 실속 특성은 좋지 않다. 중량과 견고함에 있어서는 바람직하나, Elliptical Wing 보다는 유체역학적인 효율성은 좋지 않다.

Swept Wing : 날개 끝에서 실속이 먼저 발생하기에 실속 특성은좋지 않다. 고속에서의 유체역학적 효율성이 좋다.

Delta Wing : 고속에서의 유체역학적 효율성이 좋다.

F-2로의 개조개요

F-16에서 F-2로의 주요 변경 점

- F-16에서 F2로의 개조 개발에 있어서는 일본의 국적과 지원 전투기로서의 임무 등에맞추어, 아래와 같은 개조가 실행되어 있다.

1. 선회성능 향상을 위한 주익의 면적을증대하였고 일체 형성복합재 구조를 적용하였다. 2. 경량화를 위해 동체, 꼬리날개에 선진재료 및 선진 구조 기술을 적용하였다3. 이착륙성능 향상을 위한 엔진을 대추력 [F110-GE/IHI-129]에 교환장치를적용하였다. 4. 스텔스성향상을 위한 전파흡수재를적용하였다.5. 화기관제능력 향상등을 위한 선진 탑재전자 기기를 채용하였다. (Active phased array rader mission computer, 관성기준장치. 통합 전자 시스템등) 6. 다양한 임무에 대응 및 파일럿의 작업량 삭감등을 위해 디지털 비행제어장비를 채용하였다.

F-16과 F-2의 동체비교

전제적으로 F-16에 비해 주익의 크기가 커졌으며 후방 수직미익 아래쪽에 착륙용 낙하산을 달았기 때문에 튀어나온 부분이 생겼고 전체 크기도 F-16보다 크다.

가끔씩 F-16하고F-2를 구분 못하실 분들이 계실 것같은데, F-16이 물방울형 캐노피인것에 비해 F-2는캐노피 부분에 테가 둘러져 있다. 이것만으로도 F-16과 F-2를 구분할수 있다.

받음각(Angle Of Attack, AOA)

전투기의 기동성을 결정하는 아주 중요한 개념입니다.받음각과 양력 - 받음각이 낮을 경우는 양력은 오히려 증가Stall (실속)받음각과 항력 - 받음각이 커지면 전투기의 운동에너지가 진행되는 방향은 기체의 정면방향으로부터 멀어지므로 기체의 다른면으로 많은 공기저항을 유발선회 반경과 시간이 훨씬 줄어든다.

- 1981년 6월 이스라엘 공군이 이라크 오시라크 원자로 폭격, F-15 6대의 엄호하에 2,000파운드의 폭탄 적재 후 540마일 밖 목표물 폭격으로 대지공격/항속능력의 우수성 입력

- 1982년 6월 이스라엘과 레바논간의 베카 계곡 전투에서 MIG-21/23과 조우한 약 1개월간의 공중전에서 단 한대의 손실도 없이 시리아 공군의 MIG-21/23 85대를 격추(이중 40대는 함께 출격한 F-15가 격추) - 1991년 1월 걸프전 시 다국적군의 주력전투기로 210대가 참전, 총 11,000회의 출격으로 바그다드 주변의 전략목표를 공격하여 성능 과시
