Part 21Certification of ProductsSigned by the Minister of Transport in November 2009

Effective December 2009

AC21-3 Special Category Airworthiness Certificate

Experimental – Test flying, evaluation, research.Exhibition – Airshows, aerobatic competitions etc.Amateur Built – Owner built for sport and recreation.Limited – Ex Military, vintage factory built non certifiedPrimary – not yet designated in NZLSA – (S) Factory Manufactured (may be registered

as LSA aircraft in NZ for hire and reward towards flight training with a Part 61

qualified instructor)

– (E) Amateur built (are registered in NZ as Amateur built)

NOTE – On 03 Dec 2010 all existing experimental aircraft must be categorised as detailed above.

(S) LSA

• Factory manufactured as LSA

• Require PPL / RPL or CPL

• Min Class 2 Medical or LTSA for RPL

• Operating limitations under part 91.105 (no hire or reward except Flight Training)

• Maintained by LAME

• Documents to be carried P.A.R.T

Factory Manufactured

• LSA aircraft that are factory built are required to meet the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards and meet the requirements of Part 21.201.

• To conform with Part 1 • Maximum Take off weight of 600KG• If powered - Non Turbine driven by a propeller• Maximum stall speed of 45kts• If a glider – maximum VNE 135kts• Unpressurised cabin• Maximum of 2 seats including pilot seat.

Maintenance of LSA• Must have a logbook as per standard category

aircraft Part 91.617• Requires to have a maintenance program

approved Part 91.607 and additional requirements of part 43 Subpart F

• LAME maintained• Modifications to be approved by the manufacturer.• All AD’s to be complied with.• ARA – After the first ARA then every 2 years

What you can do?

Training and testing for :

• PPL• RPL• CPL• Night flying• Instructor Ratings• BFR

• Take off and land over congested areas• Take a passenger
