The story of LifeShield began in 2002 when inventor Louis Stilp experienced an unsatisfying search for home security for his own family. Stilp would go on to file more than 20 patents and start LifeShield less than two years later. Lifeshield was developed to provide an affordable, wireless home security system for families like his. Since that time, LifeShield has grown to service all 50 states from their headquarters in Langhorne, PA. In 2013, Lifeshield was purchased by DirecTV, so that they could offer home security services to their customer base.

Their wireless system offers three layers of backup, meaning that for you to lose home security service, your cell network, internet service, landline and battery back-up would all have to fail. This makes LifeShield one of the most reliable and secure systems available. Their system may also be monitored from your phone or computer.

We have come across some negative reviews of LifeShield regarding faulty equipment. This is a legitimate concern. If a customer purchases a security service, they should expect for it to work. However, for faulty equipment, LifeShield offers inexpensive lifetime warranties for only $2.95. Offered equipment includes:

Customers have two options when it comes to installation. They may either have a professional install the system, or choose to install themselves and save on costs. We are a fan of companies providing multiple options, like this, so that the customer may choose the option they feel the best about.

There are several things we really like about LifeShield. First we are a big fan of how affordable their system is to set up. They do not charge their customers for equipment included in their standard security equipment packages and allow customers to install their own system for free. Their monitoring fees are low. We are big fans of their completely wireless system and multiple layers of backups, so that they can truly claim they provide a 24/7 professional monitoring system, even when other systems would go down. They are not perfect, however, with a less than stellar BBB record. However, only 72 complaints in the last three years is still quite a low number.

While no company is perfect, we feel comfortable claiming that we feel Lifeshield is a good choice for home security services. The verdict has yet to come out on whether or not their acquirement by DirecTV will benefit or hurt their service, but as they stand right now, LifeShield is a great option. There seems to be evidence that in those areas LifeShield falls short, they continue to work on improving their shortcomings. They provide excellent equipment at an affordable price, and we like their wireless system. There are good reasons LifeShield is continuing to be a major player in the residential home security market.
