3. USer featUreS and deSktoP integrationS
Lieray is integrated to allow users to work with Microsot Oce les located on their local drive and automatically sync
them to a Lieray document repository. Content syndication provides the ability to transmit or receive inormation with
greater depth and immediacy. Lieray Sync ofers oine synchronization or documents within the Lieray document library.
Lieray supplies a platorm or content, applications and document services that provide integration between a users
desktop and online experience. Some o the eatures that simpliy a users online experience are:
a. Integration with MS Oce (or document storage/retrieval)
b. Content Syndication
c. Content Virtualization / Dynamic Virtual Hosting

4. roLe-baSed ControLS and WorkfLoW
When you publish an asset in Lieray, you have the option to apply workow approvals. This can be used or standard
web content, but it may also apply to other types o content within the portal. Users can lock, open, edit and save a
document that is then processed or approval beore it is available to share with others. Lieray includes a complete
workow engine that can be used to coordinate how content is reviewed and published. When individuals work in a team
to manage web content, role-based control allows others to review and approve the content beore it is published live.
(Workow denitions can be done using standard BPEL.)
a. User-Driven Workow & Approval: Many types o content can be dened to require a workow process or approvals
beore being published or made available to others.
b. Access Control: Lieray provides content and access to content/eatures based on a users identity. This allows
content, applications, pages and sites to be dened as available or not given a persons ormal identity (e.g., a user in
the sales organization can access specic pages that other users cannot).
c. Roles and Delegation: Workows can be controlled by predened user roles (i.e., a users manager must approve
beore content is published). Additionally, users can dene delegation authority based on predened identities.
5. WCM indUStry and eMerging StandardS
Lieray supports an extensive set o industry and de acto standards (i.e., widely used standards within the web/portal/
collaboration industry). Some recent standards added that are signicant or web content management are:
a. CMIS: Available Lieray 6.0 allows a standard interace or content management systems. Lieray can support
other enterprise content management systems that support CMIS. Lieray 6.1 will support multiple simultaneous
CMIS repositories.
b. JSR 170: Java standard similar to CMIS.
c. Open Social: Allows the deployment o gadgets that support Open Social standard. Additionally allows applications
and content to support access based on a sel-dened riend network or group o community users.
d. BPEL (Business Process Execution Language): Lieray supports BPEL or the denition o workows with theportal, allowing users to leverage external workow denition editors. Lieray can additionally leverage external
workow engines.

Websites oten add collaborative social eatures to standard content or applications. Lieray includes many social
and collaborative services that can be used within a website or portal. For example, a site may enable users to add
comments or rate articles, provide users a ull orum discussion area, or allow users to see other users online. Sites may
also enable users to dene their own community sections and control the users and content or applications available to
users within the community site. Lieray combines collaborative sites with static content sites or portals and allows a
set o collaboration services permit developers to build powerul new applications and sites beyond what standard

Web content viewed within a portal can be manually created or may come rom external sources integrated with Lieray
Portal or into portlets. For example, an inventory portlet may integrate with an external inventory control system and
display current inventory levels per warehouse. As a web platorm, Lieray provides multiple methods to integrate with
external content and data. Lieray can be leveraged in a sophisticated Service Oriented Architecture as well as used or
simple integrations via REST or RSS subscriptions. Lieray as a platorm allows developers to easily integrate using:
a. REST, SOAP, API-based integration support (HTTP+, JSON, Atom Pub, Lieray EXT/Hook, etc.).
b. Extreme scalability and reliability allowing developers to integrate multiple external services and make them available
