OUR MISSION:
Connecting Seniors with Christ
As I write this it is December 1 and we are in the midst of all things Christmas around here! You can find information about some of the Christmas related activities elsewhere in Lifelines. One of the things we are doing is what we are calling the “Blessings Tree”. Folks are leaving presents that will be distributed to children locally by the Caring Hands ministry. This is the ministry we support each month with our food collection. This Sunday is the last Sunday to contrib-ute to this project. You can do so one of two ways. You can bring an unwrapped gift for a boy or a girl. The people at Caring Hands will
sort the toys and wrap them and then distribute them. The second way you can be a part is to give a financial gift. We have preaddressed envelopes on the counter by the office door. This way you can mail your gift directly to Caring Hands and they will do the shopping for you.
I also want to remind you that we will have our annual Christmas Eve service. It will begin at 6:30pm. I think this is my favorite special service that we do each year. There are a lot of people planning and practicing for what I believe will be an incredibly joyful service. One thing we are adding this year is the lighting of personal candles as we close the service. Be-cause I don’t trust you all with fire we are using electric candles. I found Mary Ann and Marilyn practicing this morning. So, if you are staying in The Villages and the surrounding area over Christmas I hope that you will come and worship with us that evening.
Here are a couple of mission related Christmas items. Many people shop at Amazon. Ama-zon has a program where they will donate a percentage of what you buy to approved chari-ties. The program is called “AmazonSmile,” and our mission, Love INC, is one of the ap-proved charities. You may already be using this offer from Amazon and if so, you might consider designating Love, INC as your charity of choice on your purchases. If you are not an Amazon user click this link. It will take you to the appropriate Amazon page to get start-ed. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/chpf/homepage?orig=%2F
NLCC also supports Johnson University in Kissimmee, FL. This is a Christian college preparing young men and women for Christian service in whatever their chosen career might be. Their Christmas program this year is called, “Simply Christmas” and is 100% online. You can learn more by visiting, https://johnsonu.edu/SimplyChristmas/. If you check this out you will see that David Wheeler is the host of the program. While our David Wheeler would do a great job hosting a program like this, the David Wheeler they are talking about is a member of the staff of the col-lege. Now you know there are at least two of them in this world.
One other thing, thanks for your response to the gas can ministry that we participate in for Love, INC. As I mentioned a couple of Sundays ago, we invite you to leave your change in this can each week. The money collected is used by Love, INC to provide gasoline for their clients in need of fuel for a trip to the doctor or maybe to a job interview. I can tell the can is considerably heavier! Thanks.
