LIFELINE JUNE 2021
Sunday, May 30, is Holy Trinity Sunday this year. It marks the actual end of the festival half of the church year. There are three major festivals during this half of the year – God the Father sending his Son in to world at Christmas, God the Son giving his life for our sin and then rising again, and God sending his Holy Spirit to live in us in power and love. Trinity Sunday is a reminder for us of all that God has done, and continues to do, for us, as he worked out his glorious plan of salvation. As I write this, I am watching a gentle rain outside. It is watering the new growth that has come with the spring, providing nourishment and strength to the renewed life after a winter of rest. It promises a season of growth and reproduction that will provide for God’s creation, as it prepares for a new cycle of rest and rebirth.
This past year has seen a good bit of hardship, as we have experienced restrictions and loss of freedoms due to the pandemic. It has been something akin to a kind of death. We have not been able to experience life like normal and to enjoy all the blessings that God gives us.
However, we are beginning to see a return to normal. Restrictions are being lifted. We are returning to routines that used to be a part of our lives. I was watching the PGA Championship last weekend and, besides the history that was made, I noticed how overly excited the fans were at being able to gather openly to watch a tournament together. It was like the release of a pent-up longing that overflowed in enthusiasm.
In the church year, we are now entering a season during which God’s Word and Sacrament, like a gentle rain, will nourish and strengthen us. This season of the year is marked by green paraments in the church, because the emphasis will be on growing the faith that God has created in us through his redemptive work. In all of this, God’s redemptive work and his growth in us, his name is glorified before all people.
I will leave you with these words from Isaiah –
“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness…..for as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.” -- Isaiah 61:10-11

Sisters of Service are continuing to collect items for the women in the Beltline community. They are so appreciative!
During June and July we will collect school supplies: pencils, black & red ink pens, highlighters, colored markers sets, colored pencils, lined 3-hole notebook paper (not narrow lined), composition books, spiral notebooks, folders with pockets, glue sticks, white glue, scissors, 3x5 or 4x6 notecards, 2inch 3-ring binders, calculators, and backpacks.
If you prefer to make a monetary donation, please put “Beltline Women” on the memo line of your check. We will purchase items and deliver all items for distribution. Thanks for your help!

“Portraits of Jesus”
There are no artists' renderings of our Lord from Jesus' own day. But in the titles he applied to himself, Christ painted in "word pictures" his own self-portrait. This nine-session Bible study by Pastors Roy Beutel
and Steven King explores the "I AM" statements given to us by Jesus himself. In comparing Jesus words with related Scripture in both the Old and New Testaments, the study provides a well-rounded look at the center of our faith in Christ. We will begin this new study during the 9:45am Sunday school time on May 30. Join us!

Guatemala Postponed
We have put off our mission trip to Guatemala until next
year. Between Covid and some health concerns, we didn’t have
enough to make the trip feasible. We are disappointed, but trust that
God is still at work in all of this, and especially among the people of
Chichicastenango. We will plan a trip for June of 2022.

Preschool News
What... it’s May 12th ALREADY! That is what was heard in the preschool hall. Teachers, parents
and children couldn’t believe that the year was over. We were faced with so much uncertainty in
August, but we put our trust in our Father and we had a very blessed year. Thank you for all
your prayers for our preschool.
What a wonderful way to end the year. Ms. Kate and Ms. Stephanie’s Pre-K class opened up
their “Easy, Peasy, Lemon, Squeezy” Lemonade stand for the families, teachers and friends to
enjoy a cool glass of lemonade.
The last day was the big red, white, and blue party day for all the children. The parking lot was
transformed into a carnival. They played corn hole, ran an obstacle course, had bike relay races,
face painting and bubbles, bubbles, bubbles. The school day ended with a huge Popsicle party.
AND one last transformation for the day … GRADUATION! We decorated the welcome tent
and parking lot with a beautiful balloon arch, streamers and flowers. Our three JK classes each
prepared a separate program for their parents and families. The families brought their lawn
chairs and cameras and cheered for their graduates. Each graduate had a chance to speak to
their family and tell them what their favorite memory was and what they had learned in JK.
The children sang songs and an especially funny song with Pastor Jim while he played his guitar.
When they each received their diplomas, they cheered and jumped for joy. What an exciting
day and we wish all our graduates a huge CONGRATULATION for a great year!
