Dear Partners and Friends,
Thank you for your partnership with the Council of Churches of the Ozarks to improve the quality of life in our region in the name of Jesus Christ, doing together what can best be done together.
The nine agencies within the Council of Churches specialize in serving some of the most vulnerable children, seniors and people with disabilities in our community. Each year our client base swells beyond 100,000! As state budget cuts continue, we are seeing greater demand for our services, especially with programs that serve vulnerable children and people with disabilities such as Ambassadors for Children, Crosslines, Connections Handyman and Therapeutic Riding. The generosity of partners like you makes all the difference in our ability to provide compassionate services such as a food pantry that provides more than 150,000 meals each year, new clothing for foster children, ramps and walker steps for low-income seniors, and breakthrough therapy for autistic children.
These life-changing services are delivered through an efficient business model that combines several agencies under one management umbrella, enabling us to do “more with less”.
It gives me great joy to introduce two new staff members now serving the Council of Churches of the Ozarks. Please welcome Rick George. Rick’s background as a controller in the insurance industry is a great fit for serving as our Director of Finance and Operations. I’m also pleased to introduce Christine Moses. Christine comes to us with a successful event planning and marketing background, which makes her well suited as our Director of Marketing and Development.
Thanks again for your partnership and for your support of our mission to improve the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable people in our community. The team here at the Council of Churches of the Ozarks is mission-driven, to do together what can best be done together!
Grace and Peace,
Mark Struckhoff Executive Director

A Source of Hope for a Lifetime
As we enter into the season of Thanksgiving, I would like to take this time to reflect upon our recent 180 Film Festival. I feel so thankful to of had the opportunity to be a part of a brand new fundraiser and event to benefit the agencies of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks. So many individuals, businesses and churches came together to make an idea become a reality.
There are several I would like to thank for their efforts. First, a sincere message of gratefulness to the staff and volunteers of the Council of Churches for their dedication and hard work. It truly has laid a foundation on which to grow the event. Thank you to our film teams. With their efforts, we were able to premiere creative and unique films to the community. And, the sponsors of our event whom truly took a leap of faith with a first year event. Thank you for believing in us to create a new and innovative event that focuses on collaborative efforts and the potential to continue to grow. Our Corporate Sponsors – HuHot Mongolian Grill, Evangel University, Ridgecrest Baptist Church and Donald Farm & Lawn – words cannot express our gratitude to you for supporting us! And, all of the donators, sponsors and those that attended our 180 Film Festival – Thank You! Get a look at the event on pages 4-5!
So, as we go into the season of Thanksgiving, we truly feel blessed to have such support. I hope that each of you can count your blessings and find reason to be thankful. A Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
With Many Thanks,
Christine Moses Director of Marketing & Development
PS: We have already begun initial planning for the 180 Film Festival 2011. I welcome feedback from you so that this event is truly a collaborative effort. We look forward to the creative films for next year!

If you missed this year’s 180 Film Festival or you want to check out the films – you can view them at our website! And, if you’re not already, become a fan on Facebook. Our Facebook page will give you the latest updates and news of what is happening with CCO and the service agencies!
The stars were shining bright for the 180 Film Festival & Auction to benefit the Council of Churches of the Ozarks! Family and friends gathered for an evening of fellowship with great food, prizes, films and auctions. The evening kicked off with Evangel University’s Launch Party and HuHot Mongolian Grill serving up some great food! Anticipation grew as we began the film premieres and the People’s Choice Award voting opened to attendees. The Live Auction offered crowd pleasing items that offered a variety of destinations and items. A true bidding war erupted with the Springfield Cardinals Experience! And, the David Yurman bracelet will be a very nice gift in the Christmas stocking. Thank you to Dave Melton and family who provided our auctioneer services.
4 Life Together!
ThE inspirATion BEhind ThE filmsThe Rev. Dr. Phil Snider of Brentwood Christian Church took on the challenge in a unique way – through only words. Stating that “When our Christian commitment is contained to our words, and is not expressed in our actions, then we thought it made sense to develop a film based only on words. We are trying to express the way that words/beliefs limit and confine us as Christians.”
Chris Rhea, the filmmaker for Graceway Baptist Church’s entry, “The Unprofitable Gain”, found inspiration with the focus in today’s world that to be satisfied, one needs to have money and possessions. His character discovers that although she seems to have it all on the outside, she still felt empty on the inside.
Andrew Kyle Bacon’s film, “The Worker’s in the Library”, took a humorous approach to a more serious subject of being treated unfairly. “The film presents the idea that if you go through challenges with the right attitude, God will reward you for your struggles regardless of other people’s motivations.”
His humorous approach left a good impression on judges as he took home the 1st place award, along with “Inscribed” submitted by Messiah Lutheran Church (filmmaker: Teresa Brown). Brown described her film as “the miracle baby” that almost never happened. She found inspiration in a cemetery, which was the location of her film. She felt “this film’s message is a reminder to celebrate God’s miraculous plan of redemption for mankind. No matter what troubles the world gives us along the way. Short, sweet and simple – the words “inscribed” on our heart last forever.” This film also “inscribed” a message on the crowd as it won the People’s Choice Award of $250, courtesy of Sam’s Club.
For those who were unable to attend or would like to see the films again, each of the films will be on the Council of Churches of the Ozarks website at ccozarks.org. Plans are already underway for next year’s 180 Film Festival to feature expanded categories and of course, a fun random element to include with the film. More information regarding dates and location will be released at a later date.
spEciAl ThAnks To our sponsors!Hats off to Aaron Dicer – the emcee and film Judge for the event. And, thank you to our film judges panel D.K. Raymer and Mark Briggs.

Life Together!
The 2010 Power of Together Challenge
What is the Power of Together Challenge?
The Challenge is designed to “challenge” and inspire our partners and new donors to make cash donations in support of the Council of Churches knowing that their gifts will be matched
dollar-for-dollar.
How and when will the Challenge funds be used?
Challenge gifts will be used in 2010 to help meet the increased demand of providing services to some of the most vulnerable
people in the ozarks through our nine service agencies.
How is the Challenge funded?
The Challenge is made possible by leardership gifts/pledges from Council of Churches board members, partners and
sponsors, pooling their resources to demonstrate the “power of together”.
There is still dollar-for-dollar matching funds available!
Each year more than 2,000 area churches, businesses and individuals are working together to provide help for our neighbors
in need. Donate Today Securely Online at ccozarks.org
