  • Forma is a leading marketing firm for life science organizations. At Forma, the science behind our clients’ products and services isn’t a foreign language. It’s the familiar material we work with every day, as we use our intelligence and insight to distill complex issues into compelling communications for sophisticated audiences.

Since our beginning in 1988, we’ve built the expertise and insight to recognize meaningful patterns and trends in the life science industry. We employ innovative thinking – backed by proprietary processes – as we help scientifically based companies develop and implement the strategies and tactics that change minds, increase sales and build market share.

We invite you to take a look at just a few of the many inspiring examples of our work.

  • Quintiles is now the world’s largest

    CRO. However, when they approached

Forma about a new branding initiative

in the early 1990s, they numbered only

    35 employees.

    We developed and implemented

    Quintiles’ collateral, trade show and

    marketing materials, all built around

a brand that we designed to stand the

    test of time.

Since our own launch more than

two decades ago, Forma has come

    to understand the challenges of

    launching Life Science Brands,

    and mastered the process of

    translating brand attributes into

    resonant words and images. Here

are just a few of the brands we have

    created and propelled to success.

  • ATCC chose Forma to introduce a

    breakthrough in induced pluripotent

stem cells to a variety of markets.

After a thorough review of the industry

sector and key competitors, we used

our experience to develop a wide

    variety of innovative and strategic

    marketing solutions, including a

new name for the entire range of the

products and services, a new position,

new messages and a new tagline.

To follow up on this clearly defined

    strategy, Forma implemented a variety

    of marketing tactics, including those

shown here. The results hit home. The

    Senior Director of Corporate Business

    Development stated: ”The result

    is well-defined, eye-catching and

    above all, delightfully on-target for

our offering, our space and our own

    company’s personality.”

  • DPT Labs, a contract manufacturer

    specializing in semisolids and liquids,

    sought guidance in communicating

    the expansion of their capabilities.

    After a thorough competitive review,

    Forma conducted research across

    multiple audience segments. We

    recommended a repositioning of DPT

Labs and guided the organization in

    developing a unique value proposition

and new messages. Based on this new

strategy Forma created a variety of

marketing tactics, a few of which are

    multiple audiences, the new identity

    Treating Evaporative Dry Eye

    Common dry eye symptoms are:

    • dryness• discomfort and irritation• grittiness or feeling of a

foreign body in the eye• burning or stinging

    sensation• tearing• redness• discharge• tiredness• itching• vision disturbance

Lifestyle impacts from dry eye are:

    • diffi culty performing visual tasks, such as reading, using a computer, driving and watching television

    • inability to wear contact lenses

    • constant use of eye drops• trouble being out in

    the sun• symptoms worsen

    throughout the day

What causes Evaporative Dry Eye? (Also known as Meibomian Gland Dysfunction)

    1. Lipid (oil) layer:lubricates and prevents evaporation

    2. Aqueous (water) layer:nourishes and protects the cornea

    3. Mucin layer:adheres tears to the eye

Glands in the eyelids called Meibomian glands create the lipid (oil) layer of the tear fi lm.Evaporative Dry Eye disease is most often caused by a blockage or obstruction in the eyelid glands, which can lead to a lipid (oil) defi ciency in the tears. Blockage of eyelid glands is called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.

Tears are made up of three layers

65% of patients with Dry Eye symptoms have meibomian gland dysfunction. If you’re like many people with Dry Eye symptoms, your condition is related to obstructed meibomian glands and an inadequate protective layer of oils in your tears.

A controlled clinical trial of the LipiFlow® System showed signifi cant improvement, on average, in the oil secretions from the eyelid glands and in the time that the tears remain on the eye before evaporating. The study also showed signifi cant improvement, on average, in patient self-reported dry eye symptoms. At 4 weeks after LipiFlow® treatment, 79% of patients reported improvement in dry eye symptoms.

This patient counseling tool is intended for distribution outside of the United States only.www.tearscience.com

    Treatment

The LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation System fi ts gently behind the lids, applying a combination of localized heat and pressure therapy to remove the eyelid gland blockage.

    • simple in-offi ce procedure • treatment during a single visit • gentle heat and pressure

    unblocks glands

Most patients feel relief of their symptoms within two weeks.

Using special instru-mentation the tear fi lm is visible being pulled up across the eye by the upper lid with each blink.

Evaporative Dry Eye Disease Don’t just treat the symptoms – treat the cause.

    TearScience pioneered the

    recognition, diagnosis and treatment

of Evaporative Dry Eye, a surprisingly

    common condition affecting up to

70% of all patients who have typical

dry eye symptoms, such as burning,

itchy, red eyes. Forma developed the

    TearScience name, logo, positioning,

web sites for both clinicians and

    patients, brochures, training

    materials and numerous other

materials to support the launch of

    the LipiView Interferometer and the

  • LipoMed discovered and developed

a new assay, one that is twice as

    powerful as the standard cholesterol

panel in predicting the risk for

    Coronary Heart Disease. LipoMed

hired Forma to assist with marketing

    efforts. Based upon our strategic

    recommendations, LipoMed was

    renamed LipoScience, with a new

    corporate identity and brand position.

    Forma developed print collateral,

diagrams to explain the value and

physiology of the assay, trade show

booths, direct mail campaigns and both

    direct-to-clinician (MM&M award winner)

    and direct-to-consumer materials.

  • Enthalpy is an LC/MS/MS lab

    competing in a crowded marketplace

    offerings had become commoditized.

    Forma helped Enthalpy identify,

    differentiators, and named the most

important one The 70% Solution. We

    communicated these differentiators

Blood Culture Collection Kit and Training Materials bioMérieux makes diagnostic

    equipment for hospital laboratories,

including a series that first culture

    and then identify blood-born bacterial

    infection. To drive product awareness

    and encourage acceptance, we

    developed a Blood Culture Education

Resource Kit. We named the program

    (WorkSafe), developed the logo, created

    the design language, and designed

the packaging and all the printed

    contents, including brochures, CD

    labels, checklists and reference cards.

The WorkSafe kit was a Dx Creative

    Communications Award Winner.

    Blood Culture SafetyandFirst always.

BacT/ALERT® is the only system that offers plastic blood culture collection bottles and improves safety at every step. Lightweight bottles

can be sent through pneumatic tube systems without special holders.

    Print Advertisement Campaign

    K2M manufactures spinal implants

for the complex spine market. Though

    their products are state-of-the-art,

the company is less well known than

    its significantly larger competitors.

    To build awareness and position

K2M’s offering as both innovative and

complete, we developed a series of ads

that contrasted sharply with those of

the competition. Utilizing a very clean

    and minimalist design language, we

    featured actual photographs, rather

than the typical CAD renderings. In

place of the dense amounts of copy

used by all other competitors, we used

little or no body copy – putting the

    focus on the products themselves.

NOTHING ELSE LOOKS LIKE IT.OR CORRECTS LIKE IT.

    CR, LLC (now Aptiv Solutions)

was formed through the merger of

    six clinical research organizations.

CR, LLC needed a new name, a new

position, new messages and a wide

    array of marketing materials. Forma

    guided the worldwide management

team in deciding on a new name,

    a clearly defined position, and

    a compelling and unique value

    proposition. We backed up our

    recommendations with international

    audience research, and we expanded

on our original strategic efforts by

implementing a wide variety of tactical

marketing solutions, a few of which

    are shown here.
