■ The word “cake” elicits such warm memories in each one of us. Seldom does one find a person who doesn’t like cake. Even today, when we dig our teeth into a sumptuous cake, we involuntarily pay homage and respects to the unknown master who created and perfected the first cake. God bless his soul!
■ A cake is a perfect gift, a perfect accompaniment to a celebration and the perfect dessert. So many times has a well-made cake quadrupled the joys of a special occasion. I am a self-proclaimed cake addict. I love my cakes warm, slightly moist with a hint of a vanilla undertone. I am also a huge chocolate cake fan.

■ Having lived most of my adult life in Chennai, I love roaming the streets and by-lanes of the city. I am usually the first to spot a cake shop in Chennai and I have no qualms in entering it and trying out their best cake. Usually, I exit the store with a huge smile on my face.
■ The other day, I tried ice cream cakes with a few of my friends. It was a particularly warm day and we were returning home after work and someone suggested that we try a new cake shop that served ice cream cakes. Now I love ice cream as well and I was thrilled at the idea of eating both my favourite delicacies in a single creation. We simply loved the ice cream cakes and one of friends also placed an order for a huge 5-pound ice cream cake for her son’s upcoming birthday.

■ As I said earlier, a cake can also be the perfect accompaniment for a very special event. One of my younger colleagues wanted to impress his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day. Since he knew that I was a sort of a cake aficionado, he asked for my advice. I promptly suggested a white forest cake. The day after Valentine’s, even before he came to thank me for my suggestion, I could tell from the huge grin on his face that he had a good time.
■ Some of my colleagues also got Valentines cakes to Chennai from their respective beaus. These days, they even deliver freshly made cakes to any city in India! Wow! I made a mental note of that and decided to try sending someone a cake on a special occasion.
■ A cake never ceases to amaze and delight. It has ever been a special part
of my life and shall ever be. Life is full of questions. Cakes are the answers!
