Life in The 1960s

JohnMargaret

How does technology at

the time compare with

now?

• In the 1960s, we saw some of the greatest advances in technology of any single decade.

• In the home, televisions became larger in the 60s and colour was introduced.

• The “space race” began between America and Russia.

• Yuri Gagarin went into space and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.

Did any events

change social values in the

1960s?

• Before the 1960s, pregnancies involving unmarried women were frowned upon by society.

• With the invention of the contraceptive pill, the risk of becoming pregnant was eliminated and society became very promiscuous.

Can you recall a key event of the

decade?

• One of the most important events of the 1960s was the Vietnam War, and in Britain, people were beginning to see lots of horrific pictures and videos from Vietnam, a lot of which were very disturbing.
