Scottish Dance Theatre
28th – 29th May
Scottish Dance Theatre presents two contrasting and bold new works by internationally acclaimed choreographers that showcase the power and style of the dancers.
Norwegian choreographer Jo Strømgren is a theatre sensation, having toured his works in 47 countries. Mixing beautifully poised dance with all means necessary to tell a story, Jo’s work is sculpted by an attitude to dance-making that is wild and rigorous. Scottish Dance Theatre is the first to invite him to our shores to create the bold new work Winter, Again. The piece will take you on a journey through the cycle of the darkest, coldest season, using songs from Schubert’s classical piece Eine Winterreise. Strømgren is renowned globally as a choreographer, director and playwright, and crosses many disciplines to produce powerful, radical dance theatre.

Hormonal Housewives
5th May
Is your man more James May than Christian Grey?
Then this is the show for you! Following on from their
hugely successful 2012 tour, The Hormonal
Housewives are back with hilarious all-new sketches,
as well as all the very best bits from last time round,
covering everything that makes today’s woman tick
(or ticked off) - from the joys of teenagers, to the
challenge of IKEA, the madness of holiday reps and
the insanity of DIY.
A hilariously funny evening – what they can’t teach
you about modern womanhood isn’t worth knowing!
Hairspray the Musical
7th – 18th May
The West End's favourite musical comedy, Hairspray
is back on the road.
Hairspray tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a big girl
with big hair and an even bigger heart as she sets out
to follow her extraordinary dreams, inspire her mum
and win the boy she loves.
Stage and screen star Mark Benton will lead the
company of the award-winning musical comedy
Hairspray when it embarks on a UK and Ireland tour
in 2013 and will play the larger than life Turnblad
family matriarch Edna in the show. Mark will be
joined by ex Eastenders actress Lucy Benjamin in the
role of scheming TV executive and archetypal
‘showbiz mom’ Velma Von Tussle, newcomer Freya
Sutton as big-hearted, big-haired teen heroine Tracy
Turnblad and X Factor 2011 finalist Marcus Collins as
Seaweed Stubbs, one of the coolest kids at Patterson
Park High, son of DJ Motormouth Maybelle and love
interest of Penny Pingleton.
Hairspray is the musical with everything - the
ultimate feel-good show which has played to sold out
houses in London, on Broadway and theatres around
the globe.
The Sash
21st – 25th May
Set in Glasgow on the day of the Orange Walk, Bill
MacWilliam is determined that his son, Cameron, will
join him on the walk. However, prompted by his
mother’s recent death, Cameron has started to
question his father’s beliefs. Throw in the arrival of
the staunch Irish Catholic spinster from downstairs
and her pregnant niece. Comic chaos and dramatic
conflict is the result. Father is pitted against son and
niece against aunt as old prejudices are questioned
and new ideals sought.
A top-notch cast of Scottish and Irish performers will
bring this play to thrilling life. Add to this, typical
Glasgow humour and thought provoking drama, and
you’re guaranteed a great night out. This will be the
40th anniversary of this political comedy which still
resonates in Scotland today.

Noises Off
27th May – 1st June
The Old Vic and West End smash hit Noises Off tours
the UK following its triumphant and critically
acclaimed sell out run in London.
Hailed as one of the greatest British comedies ever
written, Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning
backstage farce serves up a riotous double bill - a
play within a play. Hurtling along at breakneck speed
it follows the backstage antics of a touring theatre
company as they stumble their way through
rehearsals in Weston-super-Mare, to a shambolic
Wednesday matinee in Ashton-under-Lyne, and a
final disastrous performance in Stockton-on-Tees.
Evita
3rd – 15th June
Featuring some of the most famous and inspiring
stage music ever written, including the classic songs
Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a
Thousand Stars, Oh What a Circus, You Must Love Me
and Another Suitcase in Another Hall, Tim Rice and
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s extraordinary musical Evita
embarks on a spectacular national tour.
Bringing to life the dynamic, larger-than-life persona
of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan
Peron, Evita tells the story from her young and
ambitious beginnings to the enormous wealth and
power she gained and her ultimate rise to sainthood.
This production of the smash hit show truly promises
to be the theatrical event of the year!
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
17th – 29th June

and friendship and end up finding more than they had
ever dreamed of. Jason Donovan stars as Tick, the
role he originated in the West End.
With a dazzling array of outrageous Olivier and Tony
award-winning costumes and a hit parade of
dancefloor favourites includingIt’s Raining Men, I Will
Survive, Hot Stuff, Finally, Boogie Wonderland, Go
West, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and I Love The
Nightlife, this wildly fresh and funny musical is a
journey to the heart of fabulous!

Flaneurs
1st – 4th May
In 2010 a friend of Jenna's was the victim of a violent
attack. After discovering there were bystanders at
the scene, Jenna created Flaneurs in an attempt to
explore why we choose to intervene or not and asks
whether 'one punch is enough' to provoke an
intervention.
Flaneurs is a new piece of theatre that explores the
nature of violence in our cities and attempts to
deconstruct the ‘bystander effect' - the larger the
crowd the less likely it is than anyone will intervene.
The Black Monk
3rd May
Imagine if Chekhov had written a new play which had
never been performed…until now.
Renowned Scottish playwright, Stuart Paterson, has
translated many of Chekhov’s best known plays.
Stuart has now turned his attention to Chekhov’s
remarkable short story, The Black Monk, a tale of
genius, love and delusion. He has used his knowledge
of Chekhov's plays to write it as Chekhov might have
written it, had he written a play and not a story.
Bandages
3rd – 4th May
Surrounded by newspapers detailing horrific local
crimes, two sisters build a fragile and fantastical web
of stories in order to keep the dangers outside at bay.
But when reality finally crashes in, their carefully
constructed world can never be the same.
Kirsty Housley is an award-winning director
(inaugural Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust
Award, 2011 Northern Stage Title Pending Award)
who has worked for Complicite, the National Theatre,
West Yorkshire Playhouse, the RSC, Told By An Idiot
and Paines Plough. Her debut play as a writer is a
taut psychological thriller about what happens when
you love someone so much that all you want to do is
protect them.
Jukebox
3rd – 5th May
Jukebox is an intergenerational exploration of home
and belonging. This unique participation experiment
is devised from the participants’ own stories of
arriving, settling and growing up in Glasgow, this
performance celebrates the Asian Diaspora and how
family history and cultural identity are shaped
through music.
Jukebox is where sound, film and physical theatre
fuse across a dramatic narrative following the
journey from the Punjab to Scotland and the contrast
between these two worlds.
Putting Words In My Mouth
4th May
Tim’s leaving. A group of friends gather for one last
meal before he goes. Fiona’s confronting an ethical
dilemma, while Alice wants everyone to just sit down
and eat. The table is set, and it’s time to make some
decisions.
Delving into the ethics of our decisions about food,
Makeshift Broadcast explore what it means to give up
certain foods, and what else we might have given up
along the way, exploring why we eat what we eat,
and how this shapes us.
The Price of Everything
5th May
The Price of Everything, a performance lecture about
value. Daniel Bye's whistle-stop tour of bizarre facts
and impassioned arguments is occasionally shambolic
and often tendentious, but always a joy to watch.
Comic, provocative, and possibly a tiny bit sad, this
show is a must if you've ever wondered about the
difference between the price of an object and its
value.

Over The Wire
8th – 11th May
It's 1974, rioting prisoners have set fire to Long Kesh
jail in Belfast and much of the prison is destroyed.
This new play by multi award winning writer Seamas
Keenan, directed by BAFTA award winning Scottish
Film & TV Director Kenny Glenaan (Spooks, Wired),
follows five prisoners now pitched into a world of
violence, paranoia and hunger as they struggle
against British soldiers, each other and their own
personal demons.
Produced by The Playhouse for Derry Londonderry's
2013 UK City of Culture programme, this powerful and
captivating play was met with critical acclaim.
#sleeptightbobbycairns
14th – 18th May
Bobby thinks as long as he keeps hitting the snooze
button we’ll ignore the alarms and keep our eyes
shut. He’s wrong.
In response to city wide anger over Cllr Robert
Cairns’ (BWP, Ward 22 – Thraunston East) vocal
support of controversial plans to combat knife crime
in Glasgow’s East End by enforcing a district-wide
curfew, we invite all true Better World Pioneers to
take up the pen with us and attend at least one
#neednothing letter writing party ahead of the City
Council vote scheduled for May 29th.
We don’t need curfews. We don’t need Bobby. We
#neednothing.
Developed from #neednothing, presented at Arches
LIVE 2012, #sleeptightbobbycairns is a
thought-provoking new performance which invites
you to become campaigners for a cause that will
bring about the Better World.
As It Is
14th – 16th May
An investigation takes place on stage. The subject of
the investigation is called ‘Damir Todorovic', born in
Vršac and Serbian by birth. Damir wants to confront
his past, hooked up to a lie detector. Did certain
things really happen, or are they just the product of
his imagination?
In January 1993 he was sent to the war in Bosnia. He
did not want to shoot. He did not want to serve his
country. His life was in danger. What really happened
there? Has his memory transformed reality? Is it
possible to figure it out using a polygraph?
As It Is examines the categories of true and false as
important social issues, especially in European
transition countries facing identity crises. It is about
acting in everyday life, truth and fiction, authenticity
and totalitarianism. It is a performance that provokes
questions. Can we live without lies? Is this desirable?
Bandwagon
16th – 18th May
Bandwagon is the story of jumping on board without
knowing why. It’s the story of mass hysteria, political
fads and the compulsion to join in regardless. It’s the
story of hopping on, falling off and learning who you
are in the process.
The Agony & Ecstasy of Steve Jobs
17th – 19th May
As a self-confessed worshipper at the church of
Apple, playwright Mike Daisey’s hilarious and
harrowing take will make you question what you
thought you knew about one of the world’s most
beloved brands. Exploring the legality and morality
of electronic sweatshops in China, complete with
armed guards, underage workers and disturbing tales
of the toxic effects of hexane in these factories, The
Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs is an emboldened
and passionate diatribe that has gotten under the
skin of audiences and media alike.
