DID YOU KNOW? Stromatolites are formed in shallow water and provide ancient records of LIFE on earth by fossil remains that can date from more than 3.5 billion years ago. Stromatolites occur widely in the fossil record of the PRECAMBRIAN ERA, but are rare today.

In this exhibit, Frans Lanting took photos of nature that could reflect time and its origins. There are many ways you can tell how much time has elapsed by observing nature.

You can count the rings on an exposed tree stump. The number

of rings indicates the number of years the

tree lived. Thinner rings represent colder years

whereas thicker rings represent warmer years.
