Architecture that places the human being at the center.

The art of teaching deals with the support of life and the development of unique personalities in order to foster the growth of each child’s individual strengths. The seminar‘s focus will be on how to create spaces that really nourish the vari-ous stages in a child‘s life. Spaces that encourage healthy growth and awaken the child’s wonder in the world.

What kind of inner changes and processes occur within the child as it moves from class to class? What is the sacred mood or the deep feeling of reverence in the child when it first approaches the threshold of the temple of learning? And, how do we as Architects design places to foster these crucial stages of growth and experiences?

A series of exercises, that help you to feel and understand the child‘s development, will be explored. You will be able to work towards the aim of this seminar, which is to design a school building, in a clear and methodical way.

In addition, there will be various exercises that train ‘the inner muscles of the ar-chitect’ in several ways, such as:

We will go on 3 excursions to organic architecture buildings and visit a concert at the Berliner Philharmonie, designed by the architect Hans Scharoun.

• metamorphosis in nature and art• study of nature• observation and consciousness exercises

• precise fantasy exercises• imagination and intuition exercises• creative learning methods

What our participants say

I have started to consider the sounds of leaves. Before, I have never cared for such a little detail of nature. Now, I realize that each site has its own unique sound and spirit.”

– Tolga Karasay, Izmir 2011

“I have started living life with a totally different perspective. I have stopped thinking on every detail and have now learned how to listen to my inner voice.”

– Gizem Kızılırmak, Izmir 2011

“This is the first time that I have felt that design is more than it is on paper because, I feel like I have LIVED through something!”

– Yüksel Gülmez, Izmir 2011

Reinhard Coppenrath studied Organic Architecture and Sculpture at the Alanus University in Bonn, Germany and Pedagogy at the University of Warsaw, Poland. He lived and worked as a teacher and architect for 13 years in Poland and Ukraine where he deepened his knowledge and skills in the field of architecture, alternative pedagogy, language and dance.

His design approach is on an architecture which really develops out of a strong sense of the deeper needs of the user - the human being - thus giving the building a soul again! It is a method which aims to create space around the practical and spiritual needs of human beings. As a German born architect from the West, who lived and worked in Eastern European cites like Kiev and Warsaw, one of Coppenrath’s achievements is developing an architectural design method which finds a balance between the Eastern and Western attitudes.

Reinhard Coppenrath has given several workshops on Organic Architecture, practical Intuition, designing methods and pedagogy in various cities such as, Kiev, Budapest, Munich, Berlin, Warsaw, Krakow and Izmir.

“In the past, whole decades had one style. Today we have reached the time in history where every single situation needs its own style. The creative epoch is starting! The tool is Intuition! And we can be ex-cited to say that we were attending this historical moment!”

– Reinhard Coppenrath

What is Essential Creation - life based Architecture?

“Essential Creation is not a matter of form, it is a social attitude and an inner approach.”– Reinhard Coppenrath

In the last century, we have seen the work of great architects from the so called „organic“

movement like Frank Lloyd Wright, Hans Scharoun, Rudolf Steiner, Anton Gaudi and

others. And we can see that some of the most powerful buildings of the 20th century

like the Guggenheim Museum, Fallingwater, Sagrada Familia and Sydney Opera House

were growing out of this organic impulse. This impulse always brought about new

architectural forms as Nature herself. Also, a firm sense of the human being and the

building’s function were crucial parts of the organic design process. These 3 important

sources always play a key role: Site, Function and People. And now, a new time has

begun! A time where architecture is no longer bound to the styles of a given epoch.

Essential Creation is a safe way to use our intuition to step by step create a solution

that is rooted in the unique stituation.
