(Meaning of my name)Jose Protacio – My first name, Jose came from the honor of San Jose, the patron of the laborers, husband of Mary the mother of God.Mercado – true last name of my father which means “market” in Spanish.Rizal – My surname provided temporarily instead of Mercado to avoid in war. (That time, death penalty of Gomburza was already done in which Padre Burgos has a connection to Paciano, the brother of Jose.)Alonso – true last name of my mother; my middle name.Realonda – the middle name of my mother came from my grandmother.

My BIRTHDAY: I was born on June 19, 1861 at the town of Calamba, Laguna

My BAPTISM: I was christened in nearby church when I was 3 days old, June 22, 1861 by Padre Rufino Collantes.Godfather: Padre Pedro Casañas.Favorite Parish Priest: Padre Leoncio Lopez, who taught me how to respect the rights of other people.

Birthday: May 11, 1818 at Biñan, Laguna- He was my Chinese-Filipino father.- He was the youngest of 13 offsprings of Juan and Cirila Mercado.

- He was an educated and industrious farmer who studied Latin and Philosophy at Colegio de San Jose in Manila.

- Died on January 5, 1898 in Manila.

Mother: Teodora Alonzo RealondaBirthday: November 8, 1826 at Santa Cruz, Manila

- She was the second child of Lorenzo Alonso and Brijida de Quintos.

- She studied at the Colegio de Santa Rosa. She was a business-minded woman, courteous, religious, hard-working and well-read.

- Died on August 16, 1911 in Manila

They got married on June 28, 1848.

MY SIBLINGS (list in order)

1. Saturnina Rizal- Born on June 4, 1850 and died on September 14, 1913- Our eldest, also known as “neneng”. She married Manuel T. Hidalgo, a native rich person of Tanuan, Batangas.

- She became my second mother.2. Paciano Rizal- Born on March 7, 1851 and died on April 13. 1930 because of tuberculosis.

- My only brother, also known as “ciano” and became a second father to me.

- He became a farmer and later a general of the Philippine Revolution.

3. Narcisa Rizal- Born on October 29, 1852 and died on June 24, 1939.- My hospitable sister. She is a musician and a teacher.

- She married Antonio Lopez, a school teacher in Morong, Rizal.

4. Olympia Rizal- Born in the year of 1855 and died on August 1887 because of 13 hours of child birth.

- My sister whom I love to tease.- She married Silvestre Ubaldo, a telegraph Operator.5. Lucia Rizal- Born on 1857 and died on 1919.- My partaker of my sufferings- She married Mariano Herbosa, who died because of Cholera.

6. Maria Rizal- Born on 1859 and died on 1945.- She married Daniel Faustino Cruz.7. Jose Rizal (myself)8. Concepcion Rizal- Born on 1862 and died on 1865.- She died at the age of 3, also known as “Concha”- My sister’s death is my first grief.- I wrote a memoir, “When I was four years old, I lost my little sister Concha, and then for the first time I shed tears caused by love and grief.”

9. Josefa Rizal- Born on 1865 and died on 1945. She was an epileptic, died a spinster.

- Also known as “panggoy”, became a president of a women section during Katipunan.

- Born on 1868 and died on 1951 because of spinster. She was the last who died among my family.- Also known as “Trining”, I gave her a lampshade that contained my greatest poem “Mi ultimo Adios”.11.
