Solihull town centre is well under way.


ork has started to make Solihull even moreaccessible and convenient to work in andvisit. Over the next few months work on

Solihull’s Gateway project will continue. The endresult in autumn, will see Poplar Road and StationRoad, together with their link into the High Streettransformed into a high courtesy, high qualityenvironment for pedestrians.

The objective is to reduce the dominance andimpact of traffic in the area by reducing thenumbers and speed of the vehicles through thearea. This will be achieved by changes to the roadlayout, wider pavements and tree planting,repositioning the bus stops and replacing themwith modern shelters providing passengers withreal time information. The only vehicles beingpermitted into the area being buses, deliveryvehicles and taxis.

Work on the scheme has been planned in such away that disruption to visitors and businesses willbe kept to an absolute minimum.

However, there are certain changes that are beingintroduced to ensure the scheme can be completedsafely and efficiently.

Motorists should note there will be a temporaryone-way traffic system for most of Station Roadand a section of Poplar Road. Motorists will still beable to access the John Lewis and Marks & Spencercar parks in the normal way, they will also be ableto access the service road behind the shops andbusinesses in Station Road.

Bus users will be kept up to date about the changesto the bus stops through notices on existing busshelters advising passengers when and where thestops will be moved, seven days prior to anychanges taking place. There will be a temporary busstop in Herbert Road near to the church and thebus stop in front of the police station in HerbertRoad will be for services 6, 49 and 76 which will nownot stop in Station Road, full information on howthe Gateway Project will affect all routes can befound at www.networkwestmidlands.com/gateway

Pedestrian walkways will be maintained throughoutthe work to give access to shops, businesses andbus stops.

Taxi ranks will be provided throughout all stages ofthe work. A rank will be provided in Station Roadduring the initial stage of the work. A temporaryrank will be provided outside Firkins/ NatWest Bank.As the transformation progresses the rank will bemoved to its final position in the Service Roadoutside Shimla Pinks restaurant.

An additional rank will be available in Poplar Roadoutside Après and Zizzi’s restaurant. A new rank willalso be in place in Mill Lane, outside Marks& Spencer.

4. Add the Milk and blend gently to form a soft dough

5. If making fruit or cheese scones add the relevantingredients now

6. Roll out to about 20mm to 25mm thickness andcut out with a pastry cutter

7. Gently re-form the trimmings and repeat (6.) above

8. Rest for 10 minutes

9. Brush with beaten egg

10. Bake for 20 minutes at 180C
