Our Municipal Childcare Centers employ the How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years program

This program builds on this policy framework and is a key component of Ontario’s vision for the early years. It demonstrates the commitment to strengthening the quality of early years programs by ensuring these programs are centred on the child and the family.

Pedagogy is “the understanding of how learning takes place and the philosophy and practice that support that understanding of learning”

www.edu.gov.on.ca/childcare/HowLearningHappens.pdf

I came into the field of early childhood education like so many others do, for the love of working with young children in a quality service and in a community leadership role for the municipal child care centres.

The care and early learning education that the program offers is exceptional. Commitment to quality focuses on integrating high quality standards and practices into the development, implementation, and management of programs serving young children and their families.

I learned very quickly working for our municipal childcare centre the kind of leadership that encourages innovation, creativity, initiative, and pride that educators in the field have. This allows me to create and develop strong leaders for the future of our city. Jo IorfidaCertified Registered ECE30 years of educating children in our community

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Early Childhood Education teaches you to design learning environments that promote healthy development for young children.

An R.ECE College Diploma program prepares students to become educators of young children in a variety of early learning settings. Students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work with families and other professionals to support children’s learning and development. Emphasis is on the development of inclusive play-based curriculum for children from birth to age 12.

Graduates are required to register with the College of Early Childhood Educators to be eligible to apply for jobs within the profession.

R.ECE’s in Ontario are regulated by the College of Early Childhood Educators under the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007.

The Act, requires persons, by law, to be members of the College of Early Childhood Educators in order to practice the profession.

The four foundations ensure optimal learning and development.

Choosing a childcare provider for our children was not a decision we took lightly.

After careful consideration, we decided upon Woodcrest Childcare Centre due to it's neighborhood location, the presence of qualified and experienced Educators and positive reviews of other families attending Municipal Daycares in the City of Thunder Bay.

The care our children received from the highly skilled and caring Educators at Woodcrest was excellent and was always provided in a safe, comforting and interactive environment.

People always say I don't know how you do this job. I reply " I can't see myself doing anything else!"

Even after thirty years in this field I enjoy my job and take great pride. This job is very challenging but also very rewarding at the same time.

My favourite moment of the day is when a child has accomplished something and they look at you with a big smile.

When asked what I do I say " I'm an early child-hood educator for the city of Thunder Bay " and take great pride in representing the city.

OUR MUNICIPAL CHILDCARE CENTRES

For over 40 years our Municipal Childcare Centers have been in the forefront developing a strong foundation for quality childcare within our community .

We continue to promote creative, positive learning environments and experiences for our children and value the supportive and respectful relationships with our families.

Educators are competent and capable, curious, and rich in experience.

They are knowledgeable, caring, reflective, and resourceful professionals.

They bring diverse social, cultural, and linguistic perspectives.

They collaborate with others to create engaging environments and experiences to foster

children’s learning and development.

Educators are lifelong learners.

They take responsibility for their own learning and make decisions about ways to integrate knowledge from theory, research, their own experience, and their understanding of the
