The library wants you to participate in a summer of learning events and activi-ties. This year we will have learning logs for an Early Literacy Club for children birth-5 years old, a Children's Club for those going into grades K-3, a Tween Club for those going into 4-8, a Teen Club for those going into 9-12, and an Adult Club, for those over 18. Sign-up for the Summer Learning Club begins June 1st. (No need for adults to sign-up.)

When Rich Glauber performs, there is no such thing as an audience. Southern Wasco County Library The Southern Wasco County Public Library welcomes all two through five year olds

to attend Story Time every Friday from 10:30am to 11:00am. Each week we explore a

different theme. There will be stories, sharing, music, crafts and more! Activities will be

geared for the two through five age range but all ages are welcome. See you there!

Third Thursday Book Group We meet at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month

upstairs in the magazine corner. Each month there is a new book to read and discuss, while

enjoying light refreshments and great com-

panionship.

The book we are reading for the June 18th discussion is The Rosie Project, by Graeme Sim-

sion. Don Tillman, a professor of genetics, sets up a project designed to find him the perfect

wife, starting with a questionnaire that has to be adjusted a

little as he goes along. Then he meets Rosie, who is every-thing he's not looking for in a wife, but she ends up his

friend as he helps her try and find her biological father.

For those of you that need to plan a little further in ad-vance, the planned book for June will be The ocean at the end

of the lane, by Neil Gaiman.

Good Reads Book Group The Good Reads book group (formerly known as the Christian Fiction group) meets at 1:30 p.m. the third

Wednesday of the month in the library’s

meeting room. Each month there will be a new book to read and discuss, while enjoying

light refreshments and great companionship.

Our next meeting is at 1:30 p.m. on June

17th. The book we will be discussing is An-

gels walking, by Karen Kingsbury.

When former national baseball star Tyler Ames suffers a career-ending injury, all he can think about

is putting his life back together the way it was before. He

has lost everyone he loves on his way to the big leagues. Then just when things seem to be turning around, Tyler

hits rock bottom. Across the country, Tyler’s one true love Sami Dawson has moved on.

The next book we will read and discuss will be Peace

like a river, by Leif Enger. Copies of this book will be availa-ble at the June 17th meeting.

Romance Fiction Book Group This group meets at 1:30 p.m. the last Wednesday of the

month in the library’s meeting room. Each month there will be a new book to read and

discuss, while enjoying light refreshments

and great companionship.

At the meeting on June 24th, they will dis-cuss the book Destiny’s Captive, by Beverly

Jenkins, which was handed out on May 27th.

lovers out there! Beginning in July there will be a book group just for you. Each month

On Saturday, June 13th at 1:30 p.m. The Dalles-

Wasco County Public Library will be showing Despicable Me 2, starring the voice talents of Kristen Wiig, Steve Carell and Russell Brand.

For the teens only (ages 13-18) on Saturday, June 27th at

1:30 p.m. we will be showing Guardians of the Galaxy, starring Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana and Vin Disel.

Actor Duffy Hudson will portray Audie Murphy on August 6th

Adult Summer Reading

Duffy Hudson as Audie Murphy To Hell and Back: Duffy Hudson portrays Audie Murphy on Thurs-day, August 6th at 6:30 p.m. This 45 minute one- man performance will showcase the WWII Ad-ventures of Audie Mur-phy, his life and his cru-sade to help Veterans with PTSD.

Duffy Hudson is an actor, director, writer, teacher and filmmaker. After graduating from

college, he moved to New York City where he attended the Circle in the Square Theater School, on Broadway. He has performed in hundreds of plays, some on and off Broadway.

He has performed in 100’s of plays and has directed over 300 theatri-cal pieces.

Throughout his career Duffy has been active as a teacher on the profes-

sional as well as the col-legiate level, combining his many experiences and talents

He tours the U.S. with his one man shows of Edgar Allan Poe, Albert Ein-stein and George Burns, Dr. Seuss and A Christ-mas Carol. Duffy is also the Voice of Poe at The Poe House and Museum in Fordham N.Y.

Recent studies show that coloring is a great, inexpensive, way for adults to de-stress. We’re going to help you de-stress by offering coloring just for adults one night a month.

The second Tuesday of each month there will be coloring books and coloring pages, designed more for adults; as well as colored pencils and brand new cray-ons available.

The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library offers free, hands-on, computer classes to residents of Wasco County. These classes are ideal for the new and not-so-new computer user who wants to learn and practice in a casual, low-stress environment. Space is limited to ensure personalized instruc-tion and advance registration is required. To register for any class, call 541-296-2815 or stop by the circulation desk. Do I have to take all of the classes (like Computer Ba-sics) or can I pick and choose the course I would like to take? You can either take the classes as a series or pick and choose the course, or courses you would like to take. How will I get into the library before it is open? If you have signed up for a class that is held before we are open, we will be ready for you! Doors will be open, for pre-registered participants only, 5 minutes before class begins. What will be provided? We will provide everything at classes, except Bring Your Own Device. For Bring Your Own Device, you will need to Bring Your Own Device! Can I repeat a class if I feel like I need to? Yes, although if demand is high we may ask you to wait so that others will get a chance to take the class too!

Find out how to grip, move and click the mouse in a low stress setting. Internet Browser Basics: Fridays, June 26th, July 24th Learn what the Internet and an Internet browser can do for you. The browser is the name of the software used to access the Internet. Some examples are Chrome and Internet Explorer. Learn the basics of how to use browsers, search engines and other search tools. Email Basics: Wednesdays, June 24th, July 29th With Email, staying in touch has never been easier or more convenient. More and more families, employers and social groups are using e-mail to reach out and connect. Learn how to sign up for a free e-mail account, send and receive e-mail and organize your messages. Practice sending, receiving and forwarding e-mail. Some keyboard and mouse experience is helpful.

Searching for health information Did you know that nearly 60% of US adults have looked online for health information in the past year? The internet can be a good source of information, including health infor-mation, but inaccurate health information can be danger-ous. Join staff from the Planetree Health Resource Center and The Dalles Public Library to learn how to evaluate health information and explore MedlinePlus from the National Li-brary of Medicine. MedlinePlus is a consumer health data-base with information in easy to understand language on diseases and treatments, drugs, and wellness issues. View medical videos, listen to tutorials and look up health care providers. The information is available in Spanish and other languages as well. This class is offered from 9:00am - 10am on Monday, June 8th and Wednesday, July 15th.

Entries must be typed, double spaced, in Times New Ro-man font. No more than 1500 words. Drop your entries off at the Circulation Desk.

The 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month from 4:00—6:00 p.m. is The Project. Script, shoot and produce your own short films! Feel free to bring your own equipment. Some experience recommended. This is a student-run program, and limited to those going into 9th—12th grades only.

The 3rd Wednesday of the month from 3:00—5:00 p.m. Teen Craft. Explore your artistic side at the library! Make comic-strip shoes, and glow-in-the dark T-shirts, and su-perhero mugs!

The 1st & 3rd Thursdays, from 3:00—5:00 p.m. Yu-gi-oh! Card Club. Bring your deck and come play cards with your fellow Yu-gi-oh! Fans. This is a student-run program, limited to those going into 6th—12th grade.

The 4th Saturday of the month, 1:30—3:30 p.m. Teen Movie. Beat the summer heat by cooling off with a movie at the library! Free snacks and drinks provided. Ages 13-18. June’s movie will be Guardians of the Galaxy (PG13). July’s movie will be Captain America: The Winter Soldier (PG13).

“Be a Hero for the Environment”, Wednesday, July 22nd, 1:00—2:00 p.m. University of Oregon’s

Museum of Natural and cultural History will present a family program that focuses on the sustain-

able practices that have been developed and used by Oregon’s Native American cultures for thousands of years. All

ages welcome.

K-5 Art Studio, Tuesdays June 30th & July 28th, 1:00 p.m. Join us to create fun art projects. Intended for those

entering grades K-5.
