Join us for a Local Author Fair on Saturday, Apr. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to noon! Themorning will begin with refreshments right when the library opens, followed by ashort presentation from each of our featured authors. Each will have a few minutesto talk about his or her book(s). Then for the rest of the morning, you will have theopportunity to talk to the authors and purchase their books. We are featuring bothself and traditionallypublished authors from Wilbraham and surrounding towns. Wehad a great time with seven authors last year and are looking forward to doing itagain with a whole new group of people!
A concert of folk music byRick and GeorgianneJackofsky of HomegrownTwo will be Sunday, Apr. 10at 2:00 p.m., featuringtraditional and originalmaterial using a variety ofacoustic instrumentsincluding guitar, banjo,mountain dulcimer,doumbek, jaw harp, andharmonica.Hit the Roof will perform onMonday, Apr. 11 at 7:00 p.m.The keyboard and drumsduo will take you throughragtime, swing, boogiewoogie and rockandroll,while explaining the historyand icons of eachmovement. This program isfunded by a grant from theWilbraham Cultural Council,a local agency, which issupported by theMassachusetts CulturalCouncil, a state agency; andby the Friends of the Library.

Hello again. We surely "dodged the bullet" of a nasty winter and are nowlooking forward to spring! I for one did not miss the snow and ice! This is abusy time for the library staff and the Friends as we plan for the next roundof activities. If you are reading this and not yet a member, please considerjoining; if you are a member, don't forget to renew. Your support of theFriends enables many of the library programs and services.A major project is our Friends Annual Book Sale which will be held the firstweek of May. We'll begin collecting books Apr. 28. Our success depends onyou, so please start saving your books, DVDs, etc. Plan to visit our sale and bring friends! You'll be hearing more soon. Happy Spring!

We are excited to offer a new monthly WPL book group just for high schoolstudents! Our first meeting was in February where members received thefirst book, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, and they voted on books forfuture meetings (Mar. 15, Apr. 19 and May 17). Meetings are held in theBrooks Room from 4:00 – 4:45 p.m. Refreshments are served. High Schoolbook group is facilitated by Teen Services Librarian, Rachel Hapgood. Signup on our website or email [email protected] Teen Advisory Board (TAB) welcomed 3 new members in January!TAB is currently planning a Teen Movie Night for Friday, Mar. 18. Look formore details and the movie info on our website and in the library. Inaddition, the teens will be helping out with the annual Friends of the Librarybook sale in May by advertising and holding a teen sale in The Loft at thelibrary.
Teens Cindy Milner, coordinator of“Pathways for Parents”, agrantfunded program by theMassachusetts Department ofEarly Education and Care,has partnered with theWilbraham Public Library forthe past 3 years. Through herservice she has provided thelibrary with classes such asKindergarten Readinessand Welcome Baby. Ourpreschool area has beenupdated with an activity table,light board with magnetic playpieces. She purchased boardbooks for our “Baby Bundles”.She covers preschool classeswhen needed and is part ofour Toddler group. We arevery grateful to have thispartnership.
During April school break thelibrary will host Mr. Vinny'sShadow Puppet Show, forchildren ages 4 and up. Thisshow will be held onWednesday, Apr. 20 at 10:15a.m. Mr. Vinny (onehalf ofToe Jam Puppet Band) willentertain us with his funnypuppets for 45 minutes.Registration begins on Apr.13.

Are you a hockey fan? Do you like the Boston Bruins? If so, you will love our SpringFriends of the Library raffle! We are raffling off a 20142015 Boston Bruins teamautographed hockey stick (with a certificate of authenticity) and a Bruins AllTime Greatsphoto plaque. Both would be awesome gifts for any hockey fan!Raffle tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the library from Mar. 9 Apr. 8. Thewinner will be drawn on Apr. 9, which is the last day of the of the Bruins regular season.Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Proceeds benefit library programs.

Save the date for Wednesday, Apr. 27 when we will visit one of the bestkept secrets in the area: theoutstanding Worcester Art Museum. The museum opened in 1989 and now includes extensive artcollections from all areas of the globe and encompassing historical periods from classic through medievaltimes, the Renaissance and on through the 20th century. Also on display is much of the renownedcollection of the former Higgins Armory Museum. An excellent cafe and gift shop round out the offerings.Following our tour, we'll have a late lunch at the Sole Proprietor, a favorite seafood restaurant since1979, which has garnered fourstar reviews and has been named one of America's top ten seafoodrestaurants. Signup sheets will be available at the front desk of the library.
