Our Journey around the Ingram Library…
Our First Destination
We started our journey by using the book catalogue. In the search box we typed our desired topic, anorexia. We used the
book catalogue because it will create a list of all the accessible books related to the topic. Clicking on one of the
books allowed us to get more details on the book, its location and if it is available to be checked out.
The screen to the left appeared after we click on the book Starving In the Silence. On this page, we
are provided with very useful information such as which floor, what self, the book status, author, call
number, etc. Without all of this material finding a
book could take hours. Using the book catalogue
makes book searching easy and efficient.
Out of all the vital information available, the call number is the most important. The call number will lead us to the exact
self that the book is located. After finding the self, the call number will help us determine the very spot the book sits.
Because the call number is so essential, we wrote it down on a call number card. The card will help us remember what direction we need to be headed. Next, we continued our journey to the 3rd floor.
When we arrived on the third floor, we used the signs on the side of the selves to find the first part of our call number.
RC 552
Our number, RC 552, is between RC 500 and RC 569.5, therefore we know
Starving In the Silence was to be found on the left side of the self.
After we turn the corner of the self, we began to think our journey was going to get stressful, but because we had our call number card we had no need to worry. The books
are in order on the self according to their numbers, this way they are
easily found and identified. We then used the next two
numbers on the card, A5 and R63, to point us to the book we were
looking for.
Finally, when we matched the call number with the call number
located on the book, Starving in the Silence. Matching the two
numbers is important in order to find the correct book that we were
looking for.
Our Journey was a success!!
