The 2013 Graduate Exit Survey is produced annually to give a picture of the graduating class and highlight the increased

importance of an internship experience outside of the classroom during the fall, spring or summer semesters. This experience allows students exposure to various industries, career paths, and professionals while gaining significant career-related skills through an internship/job, volunteer position, study abroad, or research experience. The survey shows the number of graduates who are 1) seeking jobs, 2) employed at graduation or within 90 days of graduation, and if that job is within their major, and 3) continuing their education. The survey also shows how many graduates completed internships, how many were offered a position because of their internship, and how many accepted the offer. There is also a salary survey and a Career Center usage survey.

Summary of the Survey Results for 2013 • A slight increase in the number of graduates that have a job at

graduation or have a job within 90 days of graduation: In 2013 60% of graduates had jobs and 15% had jobs secured within 90 days; In 2012 58% of graduates had jobs and 16% had jobs secured within 90 days.

• Graduates who are continuing education declined from 19% in 2012 to 17% in 2013.

• Graduate employment that is related to their major increased from 44% in 2012 to 47% in 2013.

• 42% of the graduates participated in an internship, with 31% receiving job offers and 58% accepting the offer. The national average is 61% receiving offers and 86% accepting the offer (www.naceweb.org).

• 2013 salaries for graduates remain similar to the 2011 survey; however, 46% of the residential graduates with jobs are making under $20,000. A NACE national survey for starting salaries for the 2013 class is included with this report.

The Career Center made numerous changes in 2013 that benefit-ted all students (including these graduates) and employers. The Career Center hosted major-specific career fairs each semester in 2013, which included 13 career fairs and 15 Information Sessions. Participating departments included Engineering, Business, Com-munications, Health, Religion, Education and Government. These fairs represent the increase in Career Fair attendance by the survey participants.

Fair Statistics• 334 employers from all over the country came to campus in

2013 to participate in these events.• 2154 students (and a handful of alumni) attended (35% of the

survey respondents attended a fair).• 55% of the attending employers offered positions as a result of

these events – some with multiple offers.• Liberty University had three fairs in 2012 (one on campus and

two off campus) – with 175 students in attendance.

Data for this report was collected by The Career Center at the 2013 graduation activities. In total, 1,254 students completed the survey. National data was obtained from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) at www.naceweb.org.

The Career Center at Liberty University has em-barked on a campaign to reach employers in

every industry, in all states, and in all countries. The information in this survey is key to showing employ-ers the wide array of Liberty talent available. The data in this survey gives great information about the employability and experience level of our student base. For example, Liberty residential graduates compete head to head for positions with graduates from other universities. The employment rate for this year’s graduates show that 50% were employed at graduation, 27% have positions within 90 days of graduation, and another 5% are self-employed. This equates to an 83% employment rate for Liberty’s 2013 residential graduates.

The Career Center shares valuable facts with employ-ers. One such fact is that 49% of Liberty University’s 2013 online graduates graduated with a Master’s degree or higher. The average age of an online student is 35, which means that nearly half of the students not only have a higher degree, they are more likely to have years of experi-ence in any given industry. The Career Center explains to employers that the Liberty talent avail-able to them are well

educated, have years of experience in their industry in some cases, and are everywhere the employer is lo-cated. This has led to a dramatic increase in employers creating a profile in LUNETWORK, Liberty’s exclusive online jobs database. LUNETWORK has more than 4300 employers, with 2200 employers signing up in FY

2013. These employers post posi-tions looking exclusively for Liberty talent. These positions include internships, entry level positions, mid-level management and senior level executives.

Graduates are reflecting that the Career Center has been useful to their job success. 73% of residen-tial graduates and 41% of online graduates utilized the Career Center. Along with reaching out to students

and alumni, the Career Center has made a great effort to reach out to faculty and staff of the various schools and colleges to introduce them to employers looking for their students. There were over 335 employers on campus in 2013 talking with students, alumni, fac-ulty and staff about their companies and their needs.

In 2013, over 2700 residential and online students (and alumni) participated in 13 major specific career fairs or 15 company specific information session.

The national average of employers making offeres to interns was 61.2% in 2012, with 86.5% of these interns accepting the offer (NACE 2012 Internship & Co-op Survey – www.naceweb.org).

university wide and not just the graduates that completed the survey. 299 internships are zero credit internships and 499 intern-

ships range from one to six credit hours. All internships shown were completed in the Fall 2013, Spring 2014 and Summer

2014 semesters. Internships were not tracked for those students that did not register for either a 299 or 499 course.
