From a village that celebrates innovation and creative thinking, the Janice Kenney 2015 Oakwood Summer Camp Program is dedicated to promoting STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) hands-on-learning and access to computing capabilities. Additionally, the camp provides our kids and grandkids a rich, high quality and affordable experience where they can feel the freedom to be who they are and who they aspire to be without the pressures of home and school life, and at the same time, form sincere lifelong friendships and memories. We would not have been able to fulfill our mission without the support of the Bedford Board of Education, Superintendent Sherman Micsak, High School Principal Sam Vawters Ass’t H.S. Principal Kenneth Elder, Coordinator of Technology Margaret Bierman and H.S. Maintenance Director Paul Zeller who made available the high school facilities including the computer labs. At the swearing in ceremony, Mestnik outlined this year’s goals for Bedford Rotary. They are to promote family stability and mentoring for families and children distressed from job loss, evictions and other family crisis events. Some of these programs will be in conjunction with the Bedford VFW where he serves as the Senior Vice Commander. During the year Bedford Rotary has numerous fund raising events and he encouraged everyone to participate. One of the events mentioned was a pre-Christmas concert. Mestnik also talked about recruitment and in particular helping minorities moving into the community along with minority membership recruitment. Please join us for our 55th!” Bedford Board of Education Appoints Andrea Celico, Ph.D., New Superintendent The Bedford Board of Education has appointed Andrea Celico, Ph.D. as the district’s new Superintendent of Schools, effective August 1. Dr. Celico comes from the Cleveland Heights- University Heights City School District, where she served as assistant superintendent. Her career includes Euclid City Schools, where she began her educational career in 1996 as a fifth grade teacher. She advanced to assistant principal in three years and became a principal in 2002. In 2009, she was promoted to Assistant Superintendent and served in that position for four years. “I believe that the Bedford City School District is one of the finest school districts in the state. I have learned the Bearcat tradition of offering a high quality education is due to the wonderful people of the communities and the hard work of the students and staff,” Dr. Celico said. “As Superintendent, I will work tirelessly on our path to excellence. It is my expectation that we will provide a safe and warm teaching and learning environment that provides every student with opportunities to grow academically, physically, socially, and emotionally, as each student realizes his or her potential.” Dr. Celico earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Reading Certification from John Carroll University. She earned both a Master’s Degree in School Administration in Andrea Celico, Ph.D. Superintendent BCSD Walton Hills and Sagamore Hills Form a Joint Economic Development District By Kevin Hurst, Mayor of Walton Hills The Village of Walton Hills is very proud to announce the working relationship between our community and Sagamore Hills Township. Our communities have successfully entered into a Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) Agreement for the next 50 years with the option of another 50 years. This gives Walton Hills and Sagamore Hills the opportunity to collect payroll withholding tax from the 400 employees working at the North Coast Behavioral Healthcare facility, with 50% going to each community after administrative costs. The tax revenue will be used to benefit the North Coast facility, the infrastructure, road maintenance, road salting, and the police and ambulance services. The idea for the JEDD was discussed and bridged together while we were working on the Sagamore Road project. We realized that we were providing a service and were never able to collect taxes to pay for that service. We found a way to take the burden off the tax payers that live in Walton Hills Ass’t District Governor Cindy Bowman swears in new Bedford Rotary President Joseph V. Mestnik Oakwood’s Campers Boost Reading Speed & Comprehension Mestnik Sworn in as New Bedford Rotary President Sold Out Dinner Show at Mt. Zion of Oakwood Ramone Noble’s Salute to The Drifters, Platters & Coasters “The performers sang some of the most authentic renditions of my favorite oldies that I have ever heard - just fantastic evening” - George of the Jungle Arnold, D.J. on the ‘Sunday Oldies Jukebox Show’, 88.9 FM Oakwood girls ages 10-11 under the instruction of Joe Mestnik made substantial gains in reading speed, comprehension and recall. This program included 85 campers in all. This powerful program provides excellent preparation for future tests such as the SAT, ACT for college. Reading is such a critical skill that it was included in this year’s Oakwood Village Summer Camp Program of learning and fun. “Yes I can!” is the most valuable lesson everyone can learn. If someone says they can’t do it, I can guarantee it won’t ever be done. Reading instruction usually ends around the 5th or 6th grades and most people are still reading one word at a time the way they learned to read in the 2nd grade. The average reader reads at 200 words per minute. Just think how much more enjoyable reading would be if you doubled your reading speed. That’s what this year’s campers were able to do. Many studies have been done by high schools, universities, and businesses and consistently the results have shown those with the best reading and learning skills make the most money and have the most successful and enjoyable careers. Education is wonderful, but with the amount of reading being done in today’s work place the skill of reading is prominent. The only way to increase reading speed and comprehension is to learn dynamic reading. There are those who can read as fast as 6,000 words per minute with excellent comprehension. This skill is developed with practice and knowledge that if someone can read that fast so can you. We all have exactly the same equipment, eyes, brain and hands. It just takes practice. Do You Need a Miracle? It all started with a trip to Minnesota with my cousin Tommy! He said thepower of the Lord is within all of us.

He then cited scripture John 12 (9-14) Jesus answered, “for a longtime I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoeverhas seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say, ‘Show us theFather?’ Do you not believe Philip, that I am in the Father and the Fatheris in me? The words that I have spoken to you,” Jesus said to his disciples,“do not come from me. The Father, who remains in me, does his ownwork. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is inme. If not, believe because of the things I do. I am telling you the truth:whoever believes in me will do what I do - yes, he will do even greaterthings, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever youask for in my name, so that the Father’s glory will be shown throughthe Son. If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.”

Tommy then handed me the book below by Kenneth E. Hagin andsaid read. This book explains in detail the meaning of this passage andmiracles and the glory of God the Father.

You too can own and read this wonderful book and understand the gift all ofus who are Christians have from the Father. This book costs only $14.95plus Ohio sales tax, shipping and handling. It is worth much more! Toplace your order call today:

AkeypartofPresidentObama’slegacywillbethefed’sunprecedented collection of sensitive data on Americans by race. The government is prying into our most personal information at the most local levels, all for the purpose of “racial and economic justice.” UnbeknowntomostAmericans,Obama’sracial bean counters are furiously mining data on their health, home loans, credit cards, places of work, neighborhoods, even how their kids are disciplined in school—alltodocument“inequalities”betweenminoritiesandwhites. This Orwellian-style stockpile of statistics includes a vast and permanent network ofdiscriminationdatabases, whichObamaalready isusing tomake “disparate impact”casesagainst:banks thatdon’tmakeenoughprime loans tominorities;schools thatsuspendtoomanyblacks;cities that don’t offer enough Section 8 and other low-income housingforminorities; and employers who turn down African-Americans for jobs due to criminalbackgrounds.BigBrotherBarackwantsthedatabasesoperationalbeforeheleavesoffice,andmuchofthedatainthemwillbepostedonline.Socivil-rightsattorneysandurbanactivistgroupswillbeabletoexploitthemtoshowpatternsof“racialdisparities”and“segregation,”even if no other evidence of discrimination exists. The agency proposes using nonwhitepopulationsof50%orhigherasthethresholdforclassifyingsegregatedareas. Novel Material Significantly Improves Traditional Aerogel Properties

All current aerogel products on themarket today are silica-based, break down duringhandlinganduse, andshedsmalldustparticles. Therefore, theymustbeencapsulated formost applications. In addition, insulationproperties degradeover timeas these small dustparticlessettle.Inparticulateformandwithincompositeblanket,theseaerogelshaveverylittlecompressiveortensilestrengthandexhibitpoorresistancetosolvents.Inaddition,hydrophobictreatments that are necessary to keep the silica aerogel pore structure from collapsing inhumidenvironmentslowerthethermalstabilityandcauseout-gassingbeginningat350°C. NASAGlennsoughttoimprovethemechanicalpropertiesofaerogelsbyreinforcingtheirnanoparticle network, especially in the neck regions between particles. NASA Glenn firstaccomplished thisparticle frameworkstrengthening in2006, resulting inpolymer-reinforcedaerogels.Useof thesepolymer-reinforcedsilicaaerogels is limitedby the typeofpolymerreinforcementused.Typically,useofthecross-linkingpolymersislimitedtoapplicationswheretemperaturesarewellbelow200°C.Manyaerospaceapplicationsrequireahighertemperatureperformance.Inaddition,thoughthepolymerreinforcedaerogelsarestrongerthanconventionalsilicaaerogels,theyarestillstiffmaterials.Formanyapplications,andforeasierinstallation/deployment,aflexible,foldableinsulationismoredesirable. Polyimidesarewidelyusedasmatrix resins forfiber-reinforcedcomposites foraircraftengineapplicationsbecauseoftheirhigh-temperaturestability.Organicaerogelsmadefromlinearpolyimideshavebeenreported,andwhilethemechanicalpropertiesfortheseaerogelsareasgoodaspreviouslyreportedpolymerreinforcedaerogelsofsimilardensity,theytendtoshrink during the fabrication process because they do not possess a covalently bondednetworkstructure.

How it works TheNASAGlenn team is thefirst tosynthesize threedimensionallybondedpolyimideaerogels by cross-linking through either an aromatic triamine or polyhedral oligomericsilsesquioxane,octa-(aminophenyl)silsesquioxane(OAPS)andchemicallyimidizingatroomtemperature.Gelsformedfrompolyamicacidsolutionsofavarietyofdianhydridesordiamineand thepolyaminecross-linkwerechemically imidizedusingpyridineandaceticanhydrideanddriedusingsupercriticalCO2extractiontoproduceaerogelswithdensitiesrangingfrom0.08to0.35g/cm3. Theseaerogelsare75-95%porous,havehighsurfaceareas(from230to500m2/g),andthermal conductivityas lowas14mW/m-Kat room temperature.Notably, thecross-linkedpolyimide aerogels have highermodulus than polymer-reinforced silica aerogels of similardensityandcanbefabricatedasbothmonolithsandthinfilms.Thinfilmsoftheseaerogelsareflexible and foldable, making them ideal insulation for space suits, inflatable structures forhabitats, anddecelerators forplanetary re-entry,aswellas terrestrialapplications.Thickerpartsarestiffandstrong.
