Giddy Up To A New Galloping Church Here are some pictures at the Stockyard Cowboy Church with Preacher Willie Pickard and the Stockyard Cowgirl singers Sherry Duncan and Dallas Duncan and Tammy Taylor!! What a Great time they all have serving the Lord there at the Stockyard Cowboy Church!! The SCC (Stockyard Cowboy Church) has a sign as you can see in the picture. Every Tuesday you can visit for a wonderful service with Pastor Willie Pickard and our own Stockyard Cowgirl singers. They recently had a record breaking crowd of 70 people from all around SCC country was in attendance. I encourage you to stop in for a unique worship service. There services are held in the cattle sale ring at the Carolina Stockyard on Tuesdays at 7pm. Preacher Pickard shared, “We encourage you to come just as you are and bring anyone along who may want to attend. Our wish is to uplift the Lord in a humble way in our wonderful community. We would be happy to see you there! “The Carolina Stockyard is located at 260 Stockyard Rd, Staley, North Carolina. Worried about dinner, don't the restaurant is located there also so you can grab you a bite. Ricky Johnson shared his experience,"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Mathew 18:20. And He is in the midst of the new STOCKYARD COWBOY CHURCH at Carolina Stockyard, Siler City, NC. Great message tonight from Pastor Willie Pickard! Along with some good singing from Sherry Pickard Duncan, Dallas Duncan, and Tammy Taylor. And fellowship with down to earth folks that are always around a sale barn. Every Tuesday night at 7. Make plans to come next week.” I just love sharing where God is working.

It’s Open Again and Better Carolina Stockyard Restaurant located at 260 Stockyard Rd, Siler City, North Carolina 27344 has been opened back up after short closure during changing of hands of the building. They maintain the hours of :Mon-Tue:10:00 am-9:00 pm; Fri: 8:00 am-11:00 pm. They have a daily specials including plates, extra side items, and our homemade desserts. You can reach them at +1 919-663-6032. From burgers to sandwiches and all the normal sides, plates to salads, but my favorite is the Ribeyes 10 or 12 oz. Plus on Friday morning, loosen up those belts and enjoy some great breakfast. Some locals shared their reviews. Tahia Langley, “Best burger in North Carolina and probably the US!” and Lori Ambrose McPherson stated,”Love it!!!! Best Burgers in North Carolina!!!!! :)” So support another great local

Liberty Town Staff HonoredOnce again local Italian restaurant, Capris in Liberty, opened its to all the town workers and staff. They provided a free meal to all of them as a way of saying thanks at Thanksgiving for all the work they do to make Liberty a great place to live and work. From Liberty Police and Fire, to town work crews, to Librarians and town hall staff all got to attend. It great to see a generous heart still. I would also like to thank all the town workers. The town work crews that keep our streets in shape, to water lines working while we all sleep and event to keep things clean an in order. Local police and fire for our safety and putting their lives on the line for our safety. Lets not forget the Library for providing a learning environment for us and the town hall staff for all their diligent work. Also the town mayor and council for forward thinking of our community.

Christmas Was In The Air Plus A Little Snow Saturday Dec 5 was Liberty Chambers Annual Liberty Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Festival. It turned out the be an overwhelming perfect day. A special thanks to Smoke House Bistro for providing three Snow Foam Machines that transformed downtown Liberty into a winter wonderland with artificial snow floating over parade entires to the fun play on downtown streets. Also a special thanks to all the individuals and business that provided monetary donations. Theresa Bruchon, Exec Director of Chamber wanted to share, “On behalf of the Liberty Chamber we would like to thank all of our sponsors plus all the 60 plus entires of the parade. We also hope everyone enjoyed the new christmas lights on the tree and the new 5 foot star added on top. “ Winners of the parade were, First Place (High Tech Collision- Ginger Bread House), Second Place ( MOP’s Mothers Of Preschooler - Gum Ball Machine), 3rd Place (Thompson Fencing - Outdoor Wildlife Scene). An Honorable mention was noted for Absolute Freedom Bail Bonds and their Jail Cell For Naughty List. A special thanks goes out to our Judges: Larry Coble, Tonya Shoffner and Helen Headen. The Grand Marshall was Percy Shoffner of Royal Harmonizer but due to being under the weather we did not have his presence. This year at the tree lighting the local business shined out with providing free items, several of the downtown business such as Liberty Leader, CGT Photography, Shaw Accounting, Smoke House Bistro, High Tech Collision, Y'all Come Back were some of the business and we had the local church Grace Lutheran Church and Open Door Church that gave items also from water, hot chocolate , apple cider, brownies, cookies, candy and more. As always , the Bruchon family and friends provided 400 free hot dogs. Liberty Chamber provided free 4x6 photos with Santa and Ms Santa for all while they visited with the great folks from the North Pole. Thank you to Liberty Chiropractic and Dr Tom Blake for allowing again for the use of his Tree. We had great music, Jason Keller and Troi Nance gave wonderful tunes followed by an awesome performance by Praise Band from Grays Chapel UMC. Liberty Choir made of several local and returning locals was a favorite by many. Chorus group from Providence Grove High School filled the air with their talented voices. Keith Bartell got the crowd going with his high power voice and excitement for life. He also has a new Christmas CD you can purchase. Then my highlight of the night was Pastor Calvin Stokes of Edwards Grove Baptist Church that told the true meaning of the season, Jesus and concluded with a community prayer. So this day kicked of the Christmas shopping season and Remember to shop local. We would like to thank the town works, police and fire dept. for their help that was needed.

It's Alvis Again, Folks!Life can get tricky for people who intend to stay youthful,

active and vibrant. Aging gracefully can include many things, and FALLING is NOT one of them. That is unless you can fall gracefully. Alvis here, remember me? I am the guy who fell unconscious at the gas pump to awaken with a pace-maker. Didn't miss but one of my Earth Visions fitness classes during that event, even with a hospital overnight. Doctors said I was one amazing 71 year old. Since then I have been extra vigilant to my fitness classes, and again it has paid off! Here we go.

This time my friend and I had just ended a fine day of fishing and the fish had been biting 'up a storm'. I pulled the boat partly onto the bank, while he went to get the truck and trailer. I hopped onto the trailer, and grabbed onto the front of the half-in-the-water boat on the half- in-the-water trailer. To my surprise, when the truck pulled forward, the boat reared up into the air, carrying me with it. I let go my grip on the boat to find myself lying sprawled face up over the axles of the trailer, with my spine bent backwards. Remember, I am 73 years old, and I sure was glad I had been working on exactly that movement for flexibility in exercise class. As I lie there thinking how this could have killed most folks, I got a hand to climb out. Whew! Nothing broken, nothing skinned but my pride. I hate to think what a shape I would have been in had I not been working on being strong and fit. Next time I will winch the boat in and save my strength for something offering more fun!

Come on down and join me at Earth Visions Fitness. We meet MWF at 8 am. Maybe you will learn to fall as gracefully and painlessly as I have! Thanks for reading my story.

Eat down the street.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! The raffle for the 100 Man Project to raise money toward the purchase of a newer wheel chair equipped van assisted by Modern Woodmen’s Chapter 915 for matching funds is over and we are proud to announce the winner is Avonelle Neff. This has been a very successful fundraiser and we would like to thank all those who have participated. We especially appreciate that our winner returned the winnings to the C.A.R.S. Project. We are so thankful for our many dedicated supporters.

In October and November, we drove 3208 miles and assisted 50 clients in the past two months. We owe a large thank you to the wonderful volunteers that take their time to drive these clients to appointments each month. We are so blessed to have these volunteers.

The Dental Clinic is scheduled for June 3rd 2016 at the Fire Department. More details will be announced as the Clinic time gets closer. Please mark your calendar for the date. Also, the Reading Program is beginning on January 21st 2016 at Liberty School and the Liberty Library again this year. Our goal is that we will place a desire to read in the young students of Liberty School and the L i b e r t y L i b r a r y members.

OLIVIA HARDY EARNS GIRL SCOUTS’ HIGHEST HONORShout Out To Liberty Girl Girl Scout Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont is pleased to announce that Olivia Hardy, Liberty, has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, the h i g h e s t a w a r d i n G i r l Scouting.Hardy, daughter of Allen and Beverly Hardy, and a member of Troop 41447, completed her project to address poverty in H a i t i . H a r d y o r g a n i z e d volunteers to help sew dresses for young girls living in Haiti. In addition, she sent five sewing machines and approximately 300 yards of fabric, as well as sewing supplies and instructions. By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Hardy has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart.  “Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award designation is truly a remarkable achievement, and this young woman exemplifies leadership in all its forms,” said Lane Cook, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont. “She saw a need in her community and took action. Her extraordinary dedication, perseverance and leadership, is making the world a better place."The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting; it recognizes girls in grades 9 through 12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects. After the minimum requirements are completed, the Gold Award project is the culmination of a girl's demonstration of self-discipline, leadership ability, time management, creativity, initiative and a significant mastery of skills. Each girl must dedicate a minimum of 80 hours to planning and implementing her project, which must benefit the community and have long lasting impact. Since 1916, girls have successfully answered the call to go gold, an act that indelibly marks them as accomplished members of their communities and the world. Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients, and girls who enlist in the  U.S. Armed Forces  may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements. Health Corner - December 2015

Avoid Holiday Depression and Anxiety

(adapted  from Health.com)  ♦ Plan Ahead Spend some time figuring out how to take care of yourself during the holidays. Come up with restorative routines such as reading a book or napping and write them in your calendar. In between, shopping, decorating and baking, make sure these routines do not go by the wayside. ♦ Avoid Family Conflict If you know there is going to be conflicts, prepare a neutral response. Then escape to the bathroom, offer to help in the kitchen or go hang out with the kids. ♦ Focus on What Matters Find simple things that really make you and your family happy. Reign in stress by organizing gift exchanges instead of purchasing for each individual. Stay within your budget. ♦ Cut back on Commitments Do not overstretch the time in your day. ♦ Learn to grieve If you are mourning a loved one, it’s a good time to talk about your feelings or reach out for support. It’s not uncommon to feel angry at the person for leaving you alone of feeling guilty if you do not enjoy yourself at the holidays. ♦ Schedule some sleep Holiday activities can easily interfere with your sleep schedule. Try to get to bed and wake up at approximately the same time every day; avoid large meals and physical activity within a few hours of bedtime; and make your bedroom a sleep sanctuary free from TV or other distractions. ♦ Prioritize workouts Exercise should be placed high on your to do list. Exercise has been shown to improve mood. ♦ Don’t Binge on food and alcohol

He’s kind and helpful to his peers and adults. He displays excellent manners and exhibits concern for everyone. Outside of school, he has been a dedicated student of tae kwon do for the past three years and will receive his much anticipated black belt. I personally got to see him at the Liberty Christmas Tree Lighting Festival serving others by working side by side with his fellow church members from Grace Lutheran Church. They provided free hot chocolate and hot apple cider. I watched him as he smiled with each and every cup served. I needed to see that in a young person, with all the negative things we see in media and TV it is good to see a positive. I would like to thank him for making a difference in our area, keep up the great example.

Local Favorite Singer Releases His New Christmas CD The CD’s are available for purchase of $5. I have had the pleasure to get to know Keith and the one thing he loves more than music and family is The Lord. Keith started singing at a very early age in his church. He appeared on the popular BET program, “The Bobby Jones Gospel Show” and the “TCT Gospel Network”. He appeared in concert with such artists as Vickey Winan, Donald Lawrence, Karen Dean and Witness. Keith was also the three time male vocalist champion at the Piedmont Triad Area Gospel Talent Showcase held in Greensboro. In 2001 he received the Waljo People Choice Award for male vocalist of the year. Keith has recorded three gospel CD’s titled , “Changed”,”God’s Favor” and “Pray”. The CD “Pray” is available on iTunes Amazon and cdbaby.com Keith is currently signed with TMG (Tate Music Group) out of Oklahoma and Marilyn’s Modeling & Talent Agency out of Greensboro. He has appeared as a homeless man in the GMC Network movie “Trinity Good - Heart.” He has also appeared in national TV commercial with Dale Earnhardt Jr for TaxSlayer.com. Keith is a very versatile in his music styles, from gospel, to jazz, to smooth R&B, to country. He enjoys doing weddings, family reunions and special events. He admits that even though he is sold out to GOD, he enjoys singing those songs about love, because GOD is love. His goal is to make his dreams come true through singing and music, and pursue a full time career in the music industry. You can reach Keith to purchase CD’s or even hire him for your event at home 336-622-4329 or cell 336-558-3748. You can reach him by email at [email protected] The one thing that I love the most about Keith, when you are in his presence he always makes the conversation about you and not him. When you leave you just feel good. His love for God radiates in his conversation.

Think about which three independently owned businesses you’d miss most if they were gone. Stop in and say hello. Pick up a little something that will make someone smile. Your contribution is what keeps those businesses around.

If just half the employed U.S. population spent $50 each month in independently owned businesses, their purchases would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue.* Imagine the positive impact if 3/4 of the employed population did that.

For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.

The number of people it takes to start the trend...you.

Tips for selecting and caring for your tree Remember that real trees are perishable, so select your tree and care for it with that in mind. Use smell and touch to gage freshness. Determine where you will display your tree and measure maximum height and width. Don’t forget tree-top ornaments. Will all sides be displayed? If so, you may need a more premium-grade tree. Cut or living tree? If you want a living tree, be sure to purchase a species that will live in our climate. Leyland cypress, Arizona cypress, Virginia pine and eastern red cedar are all suitable for the Piedmont. Place your tree in a cool spot, away from the heat sources or direct sunlight. Reduce home thermostat settings a few degrees (can slow the rate of dying for your cut tree). Choose a tree stand that holds water. Your tree may take a gallon of water the first day and a quart a day after that. Water regularly but do not flood. For living trees, distribute crushed ice over the top of the root ball. Spray a light mist of water on the foliage. Your living tree will have a better chance of survival if you do not leave it indoors more than a week to ten days. You’ll have to re-acclimate your tree to outdoor temperatures if you leave it indoors too long. If you cannot promptly plant it, store the tree in an unheated area such as a garage or outbuilding that is protected from the wind. Don’t forget to keep it watered. Highlights From LAC Community ThanksgivingLiberty Association of Churches Thanksgiving Service was held on (11/25/15) at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church. Rocky River Friends (and friends) Choir directed by Billy Beard provided uplifting music. Rev. Milton Battle from St. Stephens AME Church was the speaker. Generous Food and Financial Offerings for the Emergency Assistance Office were received. Great fellowship!

Did You See Liberty Choir? On September 20, 2015, Liberty Friends Meeting celebrated their annual Homecoming with a great service that included a special choir. Judy Elkins, Fred Fogleman and other faithful members wanted to put together a good music program for the celebration, so they enlisted former member and accomplished choral director, Billy Beard, to assemble some singers and design an inspirational choral program. Billy brought in Jimmy and Judy Butler, Pike and Hilda Johnson, their daughter, Cindy McBane, Jimmy Brower, Ricky Wicker, Ellen Luck, and Don Herndon. The group had one practice the day before and then presented the special music at the Sunday service. Songs performed were “Lord Have Mercy”, “Come”, “Worthy of Our Love”, “In Christ Alone, and “You are the Light”. The songs were accompanied by Billy Beard on piano and he led as well! The group enjoyed singing together, and they planned to try to do some other performances later on. Part of them joined with Rocky River Friends Meeting Choir and sang in the LAC Community Thanksgiving Service last Wednesday, November 25th at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. They called themselves Rocky River Friends and Friends for that performance. Many of that same group plus Wanda Hicks sang at the Liberty Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 5th. It is good to see people use their talent for the Lord’s glory and blessing others. Let’s hope the choir is able to pursue their goal of more performances down the road.

TEEN NEW YEAR'S PARTY AT NEW VENUE

USION FOCUSF WHAT WE’RE UP TO EACH WEEK

OCTOBER: #SquadGoals - We spent 3 weeks in a series of messages by Pastor Ben meant to strengthen and create healthy relationships in the lives of our teens. We talked about the importance of LOVE, LOYALTY, and SACRIFICE within the context of their friends and families and looked to some Biblical examples of how to do relationships in the right way!

NOVEMBER: We shook things up by having some of the other Fusion leaders speak to the teens and on the 14th we welcomed the worship band LIVE OUT, who came up

from The Hangout in Siler City. As we neared Thanksgiving we did our own take on Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Thank You Notes’ and talked about how to deal with ‘My Crazy Family’ during the stressful and sometimes strange holiday season.

DECEMBER: Not all of our talks are easy. Following the parade/tree lighting, Fusion’s Josh Hand led a timely and emotional conversation on SUICIDE as the group tried to deal with the tragedy in our community. We’re also looking forward to our JINGLE BALL Party on Dec 19th. FUSION: Saturdays from 6-8pm @ Liberty Elementary Gym.

Want to learn more about Cub Scout Troop 502? Every Tuesday at 7pm come out to their meeting place at Liberty First United Methodist Church (which is located across from Liberty School) Why not bring your young man to start them down a great path.

The Liberty Leader Newspaper had the honor of visiting Liberty Cub Scout Troop 502 at their Thanksgiving meal held at Liberty First United Methodist Church where they meet every Tuesday at 7pm. I was so overwhelmed at the structure and leadership the leaders installed in these kids. They treated me (a guest) with great respect and honor. When the group of young energy filled boys got loud, it took only a few seconds and as leader raised their two fingers up in the air, the kids started raising their arms and two fingers, and a quiet spread across the room. That was so encouraging seeing these great values being installed. I got to see the winners from the popcorn sales. What I learned they received credit for kids to help cover their dues to upcoming camps. Make a point to visit them to learn more.

Santa+Kids+Bank Tree= Yearly TraditionThis combination has became a yearly tradition in Liberty. Liberty Fidelity Bank opens it doors each year as they wait for the Liberty Elem School Kindergarten to bring their handmade decorations to fill their tree full of beautiful artwork. Of course Mr and Mrs Santa always love to see Christmas cheer so they stop in each year also to encourage the kids and spend times with them.Amanda Beeson's daughter w/ Santa & Ms Santa is enjoying time with them.
