This is an indoor garden inside a residence with three floors. As a hollow building, I have
associated my design to the building in South China, which widely set courtyards inside (Courtyard
is an open area of ground which is surrounded by buildings or walls. ) Because the top of the open
space is sealed by glasses, I have designed a wooded spiral staircase to connect the upper floor and
lower floor, which is full of functional and ornamental.

In this work, I was inspired by Chinese Suzhou Garden and Japanese Dry Landscape Garden, which were both famous for their subtle and meaningful regional characteristics.
Courtyard
Moon Gate & Ornamental Perforated Window
Moon Gate, Ornamental Perforated Window and rocks are the three important elements in Suzhou Gardens. In my work, I have blended these elements in the whole space harmoniously.
Limbra Stone
Referring from the Japanese Dry Landscape Garden, I have paved the white sand on all the indoor garden. And the stones steps above the sand have perfectly reflected the deep link between the exotic rocks and sand in Dry Landscape Garden.

This is a living room in Chinese Song Dynasty Style. My design inspiration was mainly coming
from the cultural feelings of the last generation of Chinese intellectuals, and the Chinese traditional
interior design. The last generation has both delicate and elegant style as the intellectuals in Song
Dynasty, and the combination of fashion and taste as the modern people. Therefore, I have
extracted some elements from the paintings and decoration style of the Song Dynasty, and
combined them with the characteristics of modern interior design and the trend of fashion to
design such a set of traditional and stylish Chinese Living Room.
6
Mr. Wang Zhenfu described in his
book Cultural History of Chinese, that
Song Dynasty is a frail and gentle era
which thoughts and feelings have
changed gradually from the
enthusiastic style of Tang Dynasty to
reserved characteristic they own
Architecture, such as the people
worshiped the moon instead of the
sun, overlooked the star lonely instead
of dare to face the gushing sky, which
shown quiet and aggradational. The
interior design has also deeply
branded with these characteristics,
which artistic style was full of fresh,
rich poetic and pictorial splendor, and
consciousness conception creation.

Furniture in Black Moreover, through the use of view borrowing, view supplying and other ways to emphasize the harmony between human and nature, and the combination of decoration and construction were a mainly feature of the interior design in Song Dynasty.

Inheriting from the Tang Dynasty, the decorative patterns in
Song Dynasty were more elegant and beautiful. I have chosen the
hollowed out screen to separated the entrance and other function
areas but not completely cut the connection between them.
Through this way, the entrance still has a certain exchange and
occlusion with other areas and drawn the effect of view borrowing
and view supplying, so as to make the entrance more spacious and
bright in the visual. The fan above the shoe cabinet is the regional
element to carry out another one on the setting wall in mainly room.
The smallpox of the entrance is in grid format. As I want to make a visual connection with the hollowed our screen. The complicated screen, the simple smallpox and the fine lamp have created a special view between the reality and the illusion.

The mainly space of living room has
included a great deal of color element of
Song Dynasty. And the beige walls with
dark wood furniture have broken the
stereotyped style of Chinese interior
design. Inside my work, I have also added
some elements combining Chinese and
Western styles to reflect the generation
background of lives and active the
atmosphere of the whole space. For
example, I have put the more simple
brown fan instead of the wooden one on
the background in order to make the
space escape of stiff feelings, and
connect the environment to add a sense
of fashion.

On the other side of the living
room, I have chosen the element
loved by the scholars in the Song
Dynasty, bamboo, to replace cloth
curtains. And I specially used the
Lattice Door, a features of Song
Dynasty design, to replace the
balcony sliding door. The warm
yellow light, light color of bamboo
curtains, carpet and wallpaper
broke the depressed atmosphere
by the furniture in black and added
warmth to the indoor atmosphere.
And in the decorative elements, I
have selected the plain and concise
items to reflect the taste and
needs of the owner.

The dining room is a practical and ornamental area. Because the decorations in entrance and dining room are quit rich, I have set less items in it, even some blank areas. The decorations were just placed in the necessary place to connect with the design style of the whole area, which could offer a fairly comfortable dining environment for the owner.
The widget on the wall and the cabinet I have selected the decorations of Song Dynasty Style. And the other furniture were in modern study because of its functional usage.

With lotus as the theme,
the lobby is designed in the
style of integration of Chinese
and western. The furniture
and light-fixture adopted are
mainly concise Sinicism while
the ceiling and indoor layout
refer to the elements of
simple European style. In the
front of the lobby entrance
there is rockery, lotus and
screen to create atmosphere
and keep restroom out. Also,
the warm-color palace lantern
and luxurious crystal lamp
are used for creating cozy
and elegant restaurant
atmosphere. Interior Design,watercolour ,2015 FEB 25

The inspiration comes from the architectural styles of both ancient China and Japan.
The whole adopts the Full
Moon Gate of Suzhou
Classical Garden. The white
wall, the bamboo curtain splint,
the wooden bed, the Japanese
style wind-bell droplight and
the lamps and lanterns with
strong Chinese flavor make the
teahouse full of tranquility and
quietness, as well as a
profound cultural atmosphere.
People sitting inside can enjoy
the tea and discover the truth of life.

This is another practical Japanese style room. Considering the size of this room, it could be a space for leisure, and a storage room as well. so that I have specially set a bamboo curtain in the inner side of the double acting door, by which could match the need of the air circulation and privacy between indoor and outdoor.

This series of furniture was inspired by Chinese characters “古(Gu)”, which means “ancient, old, long and plain” in English. In the meantime, the overall shape of the word “Gu” was suitable for design furniture to express the implication of my idea.
19
The upper basic function part of the
tea table is a plain as the long cross in the
word “古”. The archaic vertical line of the
word has played an important role to
support the desktop. And the top part of
it, in which I have also spent a careful
thinking, has been hollowed out to add a
function to place the vase.
I selected a type of Chinese Calligraphy to design. The feature of it is the bottom part which similar to the upside down trapezium. This tea table would more flexible in this special shape. The middle of the trapezium is hollow, and the top of in order to satisfy the need for storage, the top of the trapezium as well.

This shelf was inspired from two words “古”, one in normal type and on in upside down type. The function of this shelf is similar to the antique-and-curio shelf in China. I have connected these two words and painted the whole shelf in white, so as to form a shelf with both modern sense of simple and strong connotation.
