About Glasgow West End

Because of The 20th Commonwelth Games in 2014 will be held in Glasgow, many opportunities will be open up for Glasgow. The influx of people from around the globe, will require that the number of beds available in Glasgow be increased substantially.

Glasgow’s West End refers to the bohemian district of cafés, tea rooms, bars, boutiques, upmarket hotels, clubs and restaurants in the hinterland of, the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Botanic Gardens and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, especially on the area’s main thoroughfare, Byres Road, and on Ashton Lane. The area is popular with tourists, and contains many hotels, including the prestigious One Devonshire Gardens, which has accommodated a number of celebrity guests on visits to the city.

The West End includes residential areas of Hillhead, Dowanhill, Kelvingrove, Kelvinside, Hyndland, and, to an increasing extent, Partick. The name is increasingly being used to refer to any area to the west of Charing Cross. This includes areas such as Scotstoun, Jordanhill, Kelvindale and Anniesland.

Commercial property consultants, Lambert Smith Hampton, have been appointed to act on behalf of BBC Scotland to sell its Queen Margaret Drive premises and land in Glasgow.

The 5.3 acre site is located within the heart of Glasgow’s West End adjacent to the Botanic Gardens. BBC Scotland relocates to a new, purpose built digital headquarters at Pacific Quay, on the banks of the River Clyde in 2007.

Food

Using the old BBC building, it is proposed that a 4 start hotel independent hotel is to be developed. This hotel will cater for both business and leisure guest, being in the west end of Glasgow it will have strong links to the local leisure and entertainment.

The hotel restaurant it to be operated independently of the hotel but as part of the contract it is necessary for the restaurant to provide breakfast facilities to guests. The restaurant have 70 covers, a bar area for customers waiting for a table, this will not be a public bar.The restaurant will provide traditional Scottish food, sea food, steak and so on.
