Coppermine Rally Report
Weekend 29th June – 1st July 2012
7 vans comprising of the Cotters, A ‘n A’s, Marlows, Jones, B
O’Leary, Craigs, plus visitors Eric and Bev Shaw from Athenree. A
few of us had met Eric & Bev at the Takapau Country Music Rally and
had talked them into joining us. Eric was a very accomplished third
piece to form the fabulous Coppermine Trio which included Larry &
Allan. I’m sure Eric got sick of us requesting his special song about you
can’t take it with you when you die (oh,no) but it really is a very topical
subject and he performed it superbly. Webbs and K O’Learys joined us
on Friday.
Friday Diane, Larry, George, Brian and Adrian went and explored the
Coppermine track, walking to the old mine shaft leaving the rest sitting
and enjoying the sun. A few did venture for a short walk but found it a
bit cold. Happy hour , (with a few happy people) was enjoyed that night
along with music from the Coppermine Trio accompanied by the
Coppermine Choir.
Saturday Morning, we headed to Pahiatua to look at Brian & Sue
Hobson’s Horsecoach and Campervan factory. Brian & Val were
feeling a bit poorly and stayed back as camp wardens. Brian showed us
his factory and then let us look at his latest Horsecoach which was a
lesson in pure luxury for both Horses and “parents”. It is amazing that
they manufacture these on a truck chassis in such a small factory in
around 14 weeks – doing everything themselves. We then had a real
bonus when he took us through their brand new home which is entered
by Diamond Homes in the Manawatu Master Builders Competition in
the $250K - $400K category. A feature of this home was Brian
manufacturing the kitchen joinery from his horsecoach joinery factory
as well as installing an amazing state of the art electronics system
encompassing security, sound, computer system, entertainment and
lighting – much of which is included in their Horsecoaches.
The “Foxton Four” also joined us for this tour with Jim and Glenda
and Bob and Jan making a special trip over and joining us during the
day.
PTO
Tui Brewery was our next stop for lunch and then we headed back to base. Re-grouped again for the 4pm happy hour followed by the potluck tea. These are always well received with everyone enjoying a fabulous feast and no one really doing a lot of work. The Coppermine trio then entertained while some went and watched the Hurricanes outplay the Crusaders. It was disappointing that no one won lotto either. Sunday morning, we all farewelled our new-found friends from Athenree then gathered for morning tea. Raffle won by Val (once again) and Diane & Larry won the lucky van. Spoon and fork recipients were Brian (for trying to convince us that the NZ Railways were perfect – yeah right!) and Avril ,the loving partner, who brought Adrian his coffee with salt instead of sugar – probably to make sure he wouldn’t ask again!! Last to leave were Jones’s, A ‘n A, Marlows and Cotters who had a bite of lunch before heading home. Once again a good rally. Thanks to all who came.
Diane and Larry.
Coppermine Rally continued:
Eric and Bev.
“You can’t take it with you when you’ve gone!!!”
John had a lovely smile as he sat and
waited for his “pudding.”
We had proof of how many chocolate
éclairs there were!
John, you got your “just desserts!!”
Places I have been I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. you have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there.. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often. I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favourite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!
Several men are in the locker room of the golf club.
A cellu lar phone rings and a man engages the hands free speaker function
and begins to talk.
Everyone else in the room stops to listen.
Man; “Hello”
Woman; “I’m at the shop now and I have found this beautiful leather coat.
It’s only $2,000 dollars, is it alright if I buy it? “
Man; “Sure, go ahead, if you like it that much.”
Woman; “I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models.
I saw one that I really liked.”
Man; “How much?”
Woman; $90,000 dollars.”
Man; “OK, but for that price, I want all the options.”
Woman; “Great, Oh, and one more thing, I was just talking to Jamie and found out that
the house I wanted last year is back on the market, they’re asking $980,000 for it.”
Man; “Well then go ahead and offer them $900,000. They’ll probably take it . If not,
we can go the extra $80,000 if it’s what you really want.”
Woman; “Ok, I’ll see you later, I love you so much.”
Man; “ Bye, I love you too.”
The man hangs up.
The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide
open.
He turns and asks, “Anyone know whose phone this is?”

I bought a new car recently and returned to the
dealer yesterday because I couldn't get the radio to
work. The salesman explained that the radio was
voice activated.
“Nelson” the salesman said to the radio. The radio
replied “Ricky o r Willie?
“Willie” he continued and ‘On the road again’ came from the speakers.
Then he said “Ray Charles” and in an instant ‘Georg ia on my mind’ started to
play.
I drove away happy and for the next few days every time I’d say ‘Beethoven’
I’d get beautiful classical music, and if I said ‘Beat les’ I’d get one of their songs.
Yesterday some bloke ran a red light and nearly wiped me out, but I swerved in
time yelling “Dickhead”
Immediately the radio switched to the Michael Laws Talkback Show.
I love this new technology.
Happy birthday to you all

A man and his wife were awakened by a loud pounding on the door at 3. 00 am..
The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the
pouring rain, is asking for a push.
“Not a chance, “ says the husband, “It is 3. 00am in the morning!”
He slams the door and returns to bed.
“Who was that?” asks his wife,
“Just some drunken guy asking for a push,” he answers.
“Did you help him?” she asks.
“No, I did not! It is 3. 00am in the morning and its bloody well pouring with rain out
there!”
“Well, you have a very short memory,” said his wife. “Can’t you remember about 3
months ago when we broke down, and those 2 guys helped us? I think you should
help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself! God loves drunk people too you
know.”
The man does as he is told, gets dresses, and goes out into the
pouring rain.
He calls out in the dark, “Hello, are you still there?”
“Yes,” comes back the answer. “Do you still need a push?” calls
out the husband.
“Yes please!” came the reply from out of the darkness.
“Where are you?” asks the husband.
“Over here on the swing!” replies the drunk…….
