The Level Garden News is a bulletin newsletter to keep
people informed about the gardens of The Level.
This information is displayed in the park’s information boards, at

We have just planted some 350 new perennial plants to replenish our borders to make them even more
beautiful to the eye for the year - and also (very importantly) to attract more pollinators, such as bees and
butterflies and other pollinating insects to this local habitat. This is why plant selection is very important.
Here are some pictures and information about some of the plants onsite.
Verbena bonariensis.
Common name: Verbena purple top.
Flowering: late summer to autumn.

Also, you may have noticed that the Green Flag is flying at last in the
centre of the park in front of the Velo Café. This is a great achievement
for The Level. The award was won in 2014, and we have applied again
this year (2015.)
The judging criteria are: ● A welcoming place ● Healthy, safe and
secure ● Clean and well-maintained ● Sustainability ●
Conservation and heritage ● Community involvement ● Marketing ●
Management.
A Green Flag Award is the benchmark national standard for parks
and green spaces in the UK.
The Green Flag is also seen as a way of encouraging others to
achieve the same high environmental standards in their parks and
open spaces.
