- The candidate was able to analyse, synthesise and interpret logically a wide range of geographical concepts.

- In Question 1, the candidate used appropriate annotated diagrams to explain the formation of a wave-cut platform.

However, the candidate failed to provide a systematic answer on the pros and cons of planting mangrove to protect

the coast.

- The candidate communicated his/her knowledge and understanding consistently in a coherent and logical manner

with appropriate use of geographical terminology, especially in answering Question 3.

- In the short essay question, the answer showed sound geographical knowledge in the description of the physical

factors in the Sahel region. Yet the discussion on the effectiveness of arable farming in increasing farm produce

needs further elaboration.

manner with appropriate use of geographical terminology and annotated diagrams.

- The candidate showed understanding of concepts, especially the impact of cattle rearing on the natural environment

of the Amazon Basin.

- In the short essay question, the candidate showed a general understanding of the impact of global warming on Hong

Kong. However, the candidate’s discussion on the effectiveness of urban greening in alleviating the problems

caused by global warming lacked depth.

appropriate use of geographical terminology.

- In the structured question, the candidate demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the transport problem in

Hong Kong.

- The candidate analysed, synthesised and interpreted logically the data given and gave a detailed explanation of

the causes of traffic congestion.

- The candidate applied evaluative and inferential skills in discussing the location of park and ride facilities.

- In the short essay question, the candidate gave a systematic account of the rock cycle.

- Though the candidate failed to point out the relatively greater importance of igneous rocks, he/she discussed the

influences of igneous rocks with appropriate examples at both the macro and micro scales.

- The candidate should have shown a better understanding of the distribution of sedimentary rocks in Hong Kong

and their impact on landform.
