PUNZALAN Senior Matching Grant Specialist Education Awareness Support Effort GEM-USAID Subject: REQUEST FUNDING COUNTERPART FOR THE SEMINAR-TRAINING OF PARAMEDICS Dear Sir: Graduates of Medical-related courses, particularly the 3-6 months TESDA coursers have rapidly increased as government scholarship grants pouring in response to the economic crises. In the province of Lanao del Sur, the number of accumulated graduates in the medical field has swelled the number of unemployed labor force by the thousands. As they are waiting for jobs, this skilled manpower should not be left idle for months and years because they can be earning by doing community service. In this light, the Cali Paramedical College in cooperation with the Philippine National Red Cross and the Philippine Army have agreed to organize the Paramedics 922, an emergency response volunteer organization based in Lanao. The organization will involve individuals with skills and inclination towards disaster and emergency response as well as casual civic actions that generates funding support from public and private donors. They can have income-generating projects that could be a source of livelihood and at the same time enhances their acquired skills. The Paramedics 922 will maintain the government-invested skilled manpower productive while waiting for employment opportunities.
