Dear Friends and Founding members of The Roundtable,

Welcome to the second edition of The Roundtables newsletter, our primary resource of up-to-date research, innovations, and ideas relevant to those engaged in the philanthropic life.

Since were still very new, I thought I would provide a little history. The Roundtable was formally incorporated in Spring of 2013 after an extensive consultation with over 50 Canadian philanthropists, spiritual leaders, business people, practitioners and institutions that serve the philanthropic community. Much was drawn from these consultations and what you see in this, and future newsletters, is shaped in part by the response of those we interviewed.

From these conversations came a set of assumptions that guide the work of The Roundtable:

that philanthropy is a profound expression of Christian presence in the world and contributes to the transformation of both the giver and the receiver; that relationshipsamong peers, benefactors and beneficiariesare central to sustaining any kind of change in the world; and that ones giving is primarily shaped by the sum total of their understanding of who they are, who their neighbour is, their understanding of the world around them, and their relationship with God, family, and money.

The content of the newsletters, and all of our programs and services, is shaped by these assumptions. They represent issues, themes, and topics spanning the practical matters of family wealth and best practices, to the formation of culture, to a deeper understanding of the spiritual life that holds it all together.

The editor of this newsletter, Kim Petersen, has curated a rich collection of information, research, ideas, and reflections that will challenge and provoke, inspire innovation, spark new solutions, enhance best practices, and deepen your faith. The content is a little window into the issues that The Roundtable will explore over time. We hope you will come away more enriched, informed, engaged in the healing of our world, and more joyful in your calling to philanthropy.
