Home Activity Your child read a story and answered questions about its plot. Select an age-appropriate story to read with your child. Ask your child to tell what happens at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the story.

Read the story. Follow the directions.

Cora made a model of an oil spill for her school’s Science Fair. She wanted to show what happens to sea birds when a ship spills oil into the sea. She used a baking pan for the sea and a feather for a sea bird. Cora filled the pan with water. She dropped a feather into the pan. Then she added oil to the water.

Other children looked at Cora’s model. Henry took the feather out of the water. He wiped the feather with a cloth, but he could not remove all of the sticky oil. Henry knew that a bird with sticky feathers could not fly.

1. What did Cora do first?

2. Write two things that happened in the middle of the story.

3. What is the theme of the story?
