Let Your Pain Heal You

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on,

however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Heb. 12:11

Theme

God’s plan for pain

is to refine and perfect

His purpose in us.

IntroductionWhen you take a fall

Why is it I have never blamed God?

Never got mad at Him?

Never disappointed in Him?

Never felt like I got a raw deal?

Two types of pain: one that hurts you, the other changes you for the good.

1. What Is Hurt And Pain?

HURT

1. To cause physical damage or pain to; injure.

2. To cause mental or emotional suffering to; distress.

Disease, Injury, Loss, Disappointment, Loneliness

Hurt is the cause, pain is the result.

The hurt is what caused the pain. The pain is my response to the hurt.

Understanding Hurt and Pain

1. Someone insults me. That is the hurt.

2. The Result? I Feel: Emotional pain comes over me (self image called into question)

3. My Response?: My choices are I get mad or I get crushed or I forgive.

4. My Wound: Will I let it heal? Will I let it fester? Will I let it kill me?

5. My Resources: I depend on me or I depend on the guidance and grace of God.

2. What Has Pain Been Doing In Lives?

Have you ever heard anyone say:

“Through all the ease and comfort I experienced, I have learned so much about God and life.”

“If He has healed you in the midst of your pain, your scars can be your greatest ministry.” Adrian Rogers

“When I am doing His will I really don’t notice it.”Lana K.

But he said to me, “My

grace is sufficient for you,

for my power is made

perfect in weakness.”

Therefore I will boast all

the more gladly about my

weaknesses, so that

Christ’s power may

rest on me. 2Cor 12:9

3a. What Does Pain Do For Us?

1. It causes us to be in the moment, to look at the now.

2. It demands our focus and attention.

3. It motivates us to talk with God

Deep pain particularly focuses on how weak and helpless we are

Since I know it is all for Christ’s good, I am quite content with my weaknesses and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2Cor. 12:10 NLT

3b. What Does Pain Do For Us?

4. It clarifies the value of things

5. It helps us to prepare for eternity

6. It makes having a personal relationship with God absolutely vital and necessary.

7. It builds a close relationship HIM.

Challenge

Come to Jesus.

Let Him make senseout of your pain.

Let Him heal you.
