Let us strive to pursue a
life mission that is
meaningful, which is by
intensifying the elements
of taqwa of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala,
as well as presenting
ourselves to the actual
reality of life in
performing „ibaadah
(worship) to Allah,
which is a requirement
in Islam.
The title of our khutbah
today is
“THE REALITY OF WORSHIP
ACCORDING TO ISLAM”
Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala mentions in
Soorah adh-Dhaariyaat,
verse 56:
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
According to ibn Katheer,
this verse clearly
mentions that mankind
and jinn were created
with the sole purpose of
being commanded to
worship Allah.
The resources required
for „ibaadah are age and
health. Our age increases
as the year passes by. It
seemed that it was only
yesterday that we were
children but now we are
all adults. It was as if
yesterday that we were
teenagers but now we
have our own family. It
feels as if it was
yesterday that we had
received a son or
daughter-in-law but now
we have grandchildren.
How quick is our life
journey in this world.
Verily, this worldly life is
only temporary. When the
time comes, we will be
called back to Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala,
migrating to alam baqaa‟ (the afterlife), a
phase that remains
forever. In the Hereafter,
we will be asked
regarding our age, how
it was spent, and also
how did we spend our
youth.
Allah has reminded us
in Soorah al-Hashr,
verse 18:
“O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.”
„Ibaadah is a command
from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala as a way for
us to manifest our
servitude as His grateful
slaves. Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala mentions in
Soorah al-Insaan, verse 3:
“Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.” Aside from that, it is for
us to prove ourselves as
human beings. The
disbelievers or those
that do not worship
Allah are not human
beings as Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala
mentions in Soorah al-
Anfaal, verse 55:
“Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe.”
In addition, it is also to
build taqwa within
mankind. With firmness,
Allah had stated that
„ibaadah serves as a
means in building taqwa
within mankind,
mentioned in verse 3 of
Soorah al-Baqarah:
“O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous.”
Similarly, every „ibaadah
has its own specific basis
and objectives. Salaah
intends to prevent
mankind from wickedness.
Fasting intends to
develop mankind into
becoming
those having taqwa.
Zakaat intends to cleanse
the property and
personality of mankind
from stinginess, as well
as aiding the community
especially the poor and
needy. Hajj intends to
provide benefits and
lessons from nations of
the past.
Aside from specific
worship that becomes a
priority and important to
be performed with
perfection such as the
prayer, fasting, zakaat, hajj, reciting al-Qur‟an,
and dhikr, there are daily
practices when
performed, can be
deemed as „ibaadah with
the following conditions:
1st: It is accompanied
with a sincere intention,
2nd: It does not violate
the limits allowed by the
Sharee„ah,
3rd: It is not something
that is haraam,
4th: It is performed with
perfection and
professionalism,
5th: Always remaining
conscious of the glory
of Allah and sincerely
hoping for His Mercy.
Verily, all forms of
devotion and worship that
we perform are actually
for our own benefit, not
for Allah‟s. The Glory and
Majesty of Allah are not at
all affected by the
obedience and servitude
of His slaves. Even if all
mankind and jinn were to
disobey and refuse to
worship Allah, heedless
with the pleasures of the
world, and immersed in
immorality, Allah will not
lose a tiny bit and it would
not even lessen His Honor
and Glory for Allah is the
Lord that is Exalted and
Almighty. His Honor and
Glory do not depend on
the obedience and
devotion of His slaves.
In concluding this
week‟s khutbah, I would
like to implore and
appeal to fellow
audience to always give
special attention to the
following matters:
1. The Muslim ummah
must truly realize that
all „ibaadah is for
devoting oneself and
seeking the pleasure of
Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala.
2. The Muslim ummah
must fulfill the fard (obligations)
commanded by Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta„aala
with perfection.
3. The Muslim ummah is
highly encouraged to
increase the sunnah
(supererogatory) acts to
complement the
obligatory acts, in
perfecting a life that is full
of devotion.
“Say, “Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.””
(al-An„aam 6:162)
THE SECOND
KHUTBAH
Once again, I would like to
remind all of us to always have
the taqwa of Allah Subhaanahu
Wa Ta‘aala and realize that
Islam teaches us to remain
moderate in every actions and
deeds. As Muslims, we are to
manifest noble akhlaaq, having
utmost personality and attitude
for Rasulullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was sent to
perfect akhlaaq and as mercy
for the entire mankind and the
worlds.
O Allah, You are the Lord that is
All Mighty, we are grateful to
You for having bestowed upon
us rahmah and ni‘mah, that we
are able to continue the effort in
empowering the Muslim ummah
especially in the state of
Selangor, as an advanced state,
prosperous and providing
welfare, under the auspices and
leadership of our Ruler as the
Head of Islamic affairs in this
state.
Hence, we sincerely beseech
You, O Allah, strengthen our
imaan and creed according to
that of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-
Jamaa‘ah, accept our deeds,
strengthen our unity, increase
our rizq, enrich us with
beneficial knowledge, cultivate
our soul with good mannerisms,
return us to the path that You
are pleased with, protect us
from disasters and Your severe
trials, and protect us from the
practices and ‘aqeedah that are
deviating and astray such as
Shee‘ah, Qadiyaani, and other
ideologies.
