JULY 2014
Precious Ones of St. Michael,
I LOVE YOU!
God is up to something! The forum of a newsletter does not allow me enough space to share with you the extent of all that is
presently occurring in our church. For now, please believe me when I say that much is happening. Stay Tuned!!!
With that being said, I must tell you of two points of interest that are causing me great excitement. First, the vestry has
approved goals for us concerning church growth and the advancing of our niche within the Kingdom! Our goal is to be
averaging 115 people in attendance at Holy Eucharist by the first Sunday after Labor Day!
You may wonder why such a goal should be established in a church setting. It is true that numbers in attendance do not
equate to effective ministry, necessarily. However, they are a quantifiable measure of accountability, and the practice of goal
setting can give incentive and motivation to our efforts. I can assure you with certain confidence that if we aim at nothing,
then we will absolutely hit it. So, a numerical goal gives us a target on which we may focus.
Furthermore, this goal is very ambitious, and it is not to be considered a litmus
test for our prospects of success or failure. Also, we will not be able to attain this
objective without everyone’s help. WE ALL KNOW SOMEONE who is either
inactive, less active, or could be added to our community. Whom will you invite
to see what God is doing in our midst?
And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved!
Next, I want to take a moment to address our financial condition at St. Michael.
Many have approached me to express their concerns about our future relative to
finances. It is true that the budget is extremely tight currently, and we will not be
able to continue indefinitely at our current pace. However, I feel strongly that I have not answered a call to be a chaplain of a
sinking ship. It is my belief that The Spirit will move amongst us inspiring stewardship that will bless our efforts and secure our
future. This will only occur if we place ourselves in God’s way. We are promised that if we put ourselves in God’s way, then we
will be intersected. Most importantly, we will get in the WAY by being obedient to our mission of advancing The Kingdom of
God. There is no greater purpose.
Put me to the test, says the Lord of Hosts, and see if I will not pour out a blessing on you until it overflows!
Finally, please know that you all are in my prayers, and that my affection and devotion grows for you more as each moment passes.
Answering God’s call and faithful to your trust,
VESTRY MEMBERS

Sunday School
The Godly Play class led by Judy Suther and Deb Pratt will take a break for the Summer. Godly Play will resume September 7th at 9 am.
Summer Children’s Worship
Summer Children’s Worship for ages 4 and up is during the 10:30 am service in the Children’s Chapel. The nursery will be available for babies and children under 4.

Acolyte training will continue through the summer. Acolytes should arrive by 10:10 am to serve at the Sunday morning 10:30 am worship service.
Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering, now is a great time to get started. New ministry opportunities are often available, and existing ministries always need
willing volunteers. Please prayerfully consider where your talents could be used and sign up or call
the office.
We currently need volunteers to host Coffee Hour, help at upcoming work days, sign up to volunteer at the Soup Bowl September 2nd & 3rd, and help staff the clinic, volunteer in the office and assist in other
areas as well.

Beans-n-Rice
Everyone is invited to join us July 19th beginning
at 8 am as we prepare to distribute food to our
community. In July and August, due to the
excessive heat, we will be distributing directly
from the Altar beginning at 10 am. It is a unique
experience that we are blessed with to share the
love of Christ with our neighbors. Food
donations can be dropped off at the church office
during normal office hours. For more
information, please see Harvey Roberts.
Camp McDowell
The Special Session summer camp for people with mental and physical disabilities is June 29th-July 6th,
and many campers are from underprivileged backgrounds. Donations to help with camp expenses
can be sent directly to:

St. Michael’s Clinic
Thank you so much for your continued support of St. Michael’s Clinic. Your kindness and generosity go a long way in providing community-based clinic services to our area; however, there is one area in which
more help is needed.
Volunteers are urgently needed to help keep the clinic staffed and available to our neighbors. Please consider volunteering of your
time to help at St. Michael’s Clinic.
For more information please see Jackie or call the clinic at 256.236.6060.
“What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has the eyes to misery and want. It has the ears to hear
the sighs and sorrows of men. This is what love looks like.”
-St. Augustine
1 John 3:16-18 (NKJV)
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
Thank you for your hearts of love that you pour out at St. Michael’s clinic. Your continued support enables the clinic to minister to those in need and to show the love of Christ to the community.
We would love to have your help! Volunteering at the clinic is a great opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus. We also are in need of a small, new or gently used refrigerator and microwave.
