Mon 2/4/13 – A2, A4 Warm up: We looked at 7 artists

who made different self portraits. Who was Your favorite & WHY???

Today’s Objectives:

1. Grid white paper: 1.5 in x 1.5 in 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 10.5, 12, 13.5

2. Start drawing your face.

3. Value worksheet to practice shading.

4. Begin shading process.

Gridding Photos & Paper!

• Small 8 x 10 photo: Grid 1 x 1 inch squares Use Pencil & then WHITE colored pencil too!

• Large 12 x 15 paper: Grid LIGHTLY 1.5 x 1.5 in squares Mark off at:

1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 10.5, 12, 13.5, 15

Before shading on your self portrait:

• Draw everything you see.

• Have me check it for you.

• COMPLETELY Erase all grid lines & numbers

• Complete the value shading work sheet for practice.

• Then you may begin shading your self portrait!

Mon 2/4/13 – A3 • Warm up: What is an “Alternative Self Portrait”?

A self portrait that is not just “traditional”. Make it unique, interesting, different & creative to you! Express yourself!

• Today’s Objectives: 1. Realistic Still life due now. Tape the written response, gradesheet & photo to the back. 2. Set out your realistic self portrait for a viewing.

• 3. Get notes ready for Power Point on Alternative Self Portraits.

• 4. Take pictures or send me one. [email protected] 5. If time, practice facial proportions & body proportions.

• Closing question: What will you do to make your Alternative Self portrait unique?

Realistic Still Life Critique:

• Lay out your still life.

• Tell us your idea or thought behind it.

• Tell us your painting process.

Tues 2/5/13 – B3 & AB5 • Warm up: Get out your Ebony or 2B pencil.

In your skbk, draw 2 medium circles. Smoothly shade to them into Spheres!

• Today’s Objectives: 1. Shading review & Practice on work sheet **You must erase ALL Gridlines before shading. 2. Demonstration for how to start shading!

• Today’s Objectives: Continue shading your self portrait Shade smoothly & as realistically as possible.

• Closing Question: How does shading affect your self portrait?

Background options for self portraits = Solid, fade, medium or light, patterns, designs, or white (if you can erase finger prints).

• Thurs & Friday will be our last days in class to work on self portraits.

• Monday, if you are finished with your self portrait you can start painting your clay!!!

Friday 2/10 – B2 • Warm up: Self Portrait: A portrait an artist

makes using himself or herself as the subject.

• Today: 1st part of Portrait Power point. Next class we will begin Building our realistic self portrait.

Friday 2/10 – B3, B4 • Warm up: Make sure your portrait has a good

Value Range = Darks, Mediums, & Lights AND

Contrast = Dark darks & Light values

Friday 2/10 – AB5 • Warm up: To “build” hair, layer in smooth value first.

Then add darker shades for dark areas. Then draw in hatching textures for hair. Use your eraser for highlights!

• Today is the last day in class to finish self portraits.

• Fill out grade sheet & begin gridding your next photo for our painting!

• Instructions on bottom of gradesheet!
