Lesson Plan class-10th
Topic-HereditySub Topic-Law of dominance
General objectives
• To develop the scientific attitude among students
• To inculcate leadership quality • Ability to ask questions• To develop habit of team work
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
• To impart the knowledge about heredity• Knowledge about variations in offsprings• To impart the knowledge about expressions of
inherited characters• Knowledge about dominance and recessive
nature of characters
Name the plants .
Are they alike?
What is difference between plant –A and Plant –B ?
Gregor Mendel
• Gregor Mendel was a priest from the mid 19th century who conducted experiments in his garden.
• Mendel is considered the “Father of Genetics!”
Seven traits of pea plant
Law of Dominance
• Every gene has two factors (alleles) that are responsible for a trait.
• One allele is dominant, meaning it will always express itself.
• One allele is recessive, meaning its expression will be hidden by the presence of the dominant allele.
Gregor Mendel
• Gregor Mendel was a priest from the mid 19th century who conducted experiments in his garden.
• Mendel is considered the “Father of Genetics!”
PRESENTATION BY TEACHER
• All the characters present in our body transferred from our parents. This transfer of characters from one generation to the another generation is known as heredity .e.g .colour of eyes , skin colour and height.
• Gregor John Mendel(1822-1884) has workedout on this topic.
• He chose pea plant for his work.
Group Formation And Activity
• Whole class is devided in to 4-5 groups • Each group comprises of six students • First three groups are assign to identify
straight and curly hair among themselves • Next three groups are provided with pea
seeds and asked them to separate smooth and wrinkled seeds
Feedback and assignments
• ………gave the law of dominance (Mendel/Hook)• Transfer of characters from one generation to another is
known as heredity /evolution .• Tallness In pea plant is dominant character (true/ false)• Shortness in pea plant is dominant character (true/ false)• Experiment was performed on ………. Plant• Match the columns• Heredity carrier of character• Dominance Transfer of character• Recessiveness Expressions of character• Factor Non Expressions of character
Home assignment
• Explain the law of dominance with example.• Define heredity. • Draw a cross between tall and short pea plant.• Who is known as the father of genetics?
